MACtion and Beyond- A Western Michigan Broncos Dynasty

*All apologies to BDawg35, whom I know is rolling with W. Michigan as well, but I already know that his dynasty has already blown what this one will be far out of the water.

All right, so you may have seen the NAA CAP thread, and if you've been following that, you know that it is unable to come to complete fruition, so all those players have been put into the MAC, two players per school (for the most part.) and from there, I have chosen to roll with the Western Michigan Broncos. Now, this is my first dynasty attempt, so you'll have to bear with me. This won't have fancy graphics, great story-telling, or anything like that. I hope to focus on writing up game articles, possibly previews and mainly focusing on everything within the MAC, particularly those CAP players. Hope you enjoy!

Re: MACtion and Beyond- A Western Michigan Broncos Dynasty

Western Michigan Broncos Season Preview

Offense: The offense is where this team's strength lies. With a star in the making in Fr. QB Wyatt LaPointe (79 overall) and a three-headed monster in the backfield between seniors Brian Fields and Dareyon Chance as well as freshman Abe Davis, the run game looks to be the main focus for Head Coach PJ Fleck. But that doesn't mean that the Broncos can't do any damage in the passing game. RS Sophomore Jaime Wilson is already a star wide out for the Broncos and he will give LaPointe a steady target in the passing game. The O-line is solid across the board as well and will provide good protection for LaPointe as well as opening some holes for those three backs.

Defense/Special Teams: This is the Broncos' problem area. The D-Line is iffy at best. The linebacking corps is probably the brightest spot, led by senior LOLB Johnnie Simon. The secondary should be decent as well, with Jr. CB Donald Celiscar and Sr. FS Justin Currie leading the way. The kicking game should be all right as well between Sophs Andrew Haldeman doing the kicking and J Schroeder taking care of the punting duties. RB Dareyon Chance will take care of the returning duties and should be good enough to set the Broncos up with good field position.

Prediction: 7-5, 3rd in MAC West. With no Northern Illinois (moved to the American Conference) to worry about, the Broncos should end up with a solid finish in the MAC's West Division.

Re: MACtion and Beyond- A Western Michigan Broncos Dynasty

* I want to preface this first game recap by saying that I have no idea where this came from. I tested these sliders out in three games with pretty well even teams. I won once. The margin was never more than 7 points. And then this happened....

In college football, there are things you expect. When a school with a direction in front of its name walks into Spartan Stadium in late August, you expect it to go home with a large check and a "1" in the L column in the next day's paper. Western Michigan only went home with one of those things on Saturday Afternoon.

On a day where nothing would seemingly go wrong for the Broncos, the brightest star was WMU RB Brian Fields, who gashed the Spartan defense for 221 yards and 2 TDs. QB Wyatt LaPointe didn't have to drop back and chuck the ball much, but when he did, it paid off. He hit Jaime Wilson on a beautiful play action pass with 2:13 left in the first quarter after Dareyon Chance opened up the scoring on a 4 yard TD run with 4 minutes to go in the first. From there, it was like a snowball rolling downhill. And it engulfed the Spartans. The Broncos racked up 570 yards of Total Offense, including 433 on the ground and walked away with a 49-7 win. The Broncos face another Big 10 opponent in Iowa City next week as they take on the Hawkeyes, who were off in week one.

Andrew Haldeman wants that kick back. Haldeman missed a 40 yard field goal wide to the right at the end of regulation that, coupled with a spectacular goal-line stand by the Hawkeyes in the second overtime period, cost the Western Michigan Broncos their second upset of a Big 10 squad in as many weeks.

This one was not nearly as easy as it was last week. Coach PJ Fleck knew it wouldn't be and had prepared his team accordingly. The result was another spectacular performance from Brian Fields, amassing 193 yards on 31 carries, but it was defense and special teams that kept the Broncos in the game. Donald Celiscar and Dareyon Chance each scored touchdowns for the defensive and special teams units, otherwise this would have been all Iowa. The Broncos drove the ball down into Hawkeye territory late, only for Haldeman to miss the kick. A Hawkeye stop of a Bronco QB Sneak on 4th and Goal from the half yard-line sealed the deal as the Hawks survived in overtime. Next week, the Broncos will play FCS Southeast.

Around the MAC:
N. Illinois 49, Ball St. 37 (B. Curtis 4 car., 27 yds., TD)
FCS East 31, UMass 28 (M. Donavan 3 rec, 52 yds; B. Smith 4 tack, 1 TFL, .5 Sack)
Penn St. 21, E. Michigan 0 (T. Barnewitz 3 tack, I. Washington 1 tack, 2 Pass Def.)
Miami (OH) 31, Toledo 14 (J. Yeboah 4 tack, 1 TFL, .5 Sack, 1 Pass Def.; M. Viselli 2 rec, 51 yds)
Kent St. 34, Bowling Green 28 (W. Griffin 11-26, 181 yds, TD, INT; W. Fournette 2 rec, 35 yds; J. Lindo Tack.)
Ohio 49, N. Texas 21 (G. Mason 0-1 passing)
Akron 37, FCS East 13 (H. Vandlaar 2 rec, 20 yds; J. Hayes 2 pancakes)
12 Baylor 27, Buffalo 24 (D. Dillard 11 car, 28 yds, 2 TDs)
C. Michigan 28, UNLV 24 (R. Pierce 1 rec, 26 yds, A. Walls 13-29, 270 yds, TD)

* I'm beginning to tweak sliders a bit to fit my play style a bit more. Hopefully this week being against an FCS team should help.

He's the third RB at Ohio... actually, as you'll see when I put the Ohio game up sometime tomorrow, he did make a reception. Didn't play much, but he was in there on at least a couple of plays.

Re: MACtion and Beyond- A Western Michigan Broncos Dynasty

Not exactly my first choice for Mr. Dillard to go, but it's nice to see he is getting some touches and has a good role with UB, with a few nice upsets too

Following for sure.
