Re: Maize's Return of the Victors Valiant | Michigan Wolverines Football
Recruiting Central Michigan Three Sign After Gophers Game Michigan was not happy with the team's performance against rival Minnesota. In front of a large crowd, Michigan could not retain the Little Brown Jug. It was the first time the Golden Gophers beat the Wolverines in six years and they did it in impressive fashion. "We couldn't stop the run, couldn't get our own running game going. We had a couple nice drives at the end... it wasn't enough." said Head Coach Brady Hoke, disappointed as the team drops to 3-2. A bright spot for the Wolverines is their start on putting together the 2015 Recruiting Class. The team received the commitments of three, three-star players following the loss on Saturday. Two teammates and an out-of-state player that surprised with a commitment before even visiting Ann Arbor. The headliner is Quarterback Alex Malzone from Birmingham Brother Rice. Malzone has been a part of Brother Rice's three straight state titles and he is working toward four-straight. Malzone is 32-2 as a starter and his standout performances this season has made him the highest-ranked Quarterback in the state for the Class of 2015. Malzone has a strong-arm and is often given credit for leadership skills and a maturity both on and off the field. He rarely makes mistakes and Brother Rice's success over the past two seasons has much to do with the play of Malzone. Offensive Coordinator Doug Mussmeier is excited about Malzone and believes he fits 'perfectly' into the offense. Joining Malzone for an official visit on Saturday was teammate Jack Dunaway. Both players knew Michigan was the right choice and they happily committed. Dunaway is a defensive end and a "sack artist." Last year as a junior, Dunaway racked up 15 sacks in the team's 14 games. His strength and footwork make it tough for opposing lineman. Already this season, Dunaway has 9 sacks through six games. Both players have been interested in Michigan, but wanted to go through the process before making a decision. Malzone was invited to numerous Quarterback camps throughout the summer and started racking up offers. He knew Michigan was the right place for him, same with Dunaway. The same can be said for defensive tackle Calvin Walker. Walker took his official visit to Michigan, two weeks after Michigan offered him a scholarship. Walker was considering offers from Louisville, Ohio State, and Tennessee. After a weekend in Ann Arbor, the skilled two-way lineman chose the Wolverines. Walker is another player that can put pressure on opposing backfields. He has been a three year varsity starter for Warren County High School, just outside Chattanooga. While the Pioneers have struggled in recent seasons, Walker has shined as a force on the interior of the offensive and defensive line. He projects to be a defensive tackle and his quick commit was a welcomed surprise for the Wolverines. Players Verbally Committed In-Season Alex Malzone, QB from Saginaw, MI - 6’2” 203 | Nationally Ranked QB: #17 Calvin Walker, DT from McMinnville, TN - 6’0” 277 | Nationally Ranked DT: #20 Jack Dunaway, DE from East Detroit, MI - 6’2” 230 | Nationally Ranked DE: #56 |
