Re: Oakland Exodus (M15 Relocation CFM)

Been silently following, I was hoping Carr would be good for you. Guess a year if development is best right now, huh? 😣

Yeah Carr just isn't putting up the numbers right now... Passing in general has been a big challenge, but I like that as part of the challenge these sliders bring to the game.

2014: Preseason Week 4
Seattle Seahawks @ Oakland Raiders

McGloin Rallies Raiders to Overcome Seahawks

Matt McGloin gave his best performance of the preseason against Seattle, throwing for three touchdowns on
the way to a big win.

With the regular season just one week away, Head Coach Dennis Allen kept many of his starters on the sidelines to allow the lower end of the depth chart to play it out in one last chance to battle for key roster positions. But he may have some thinking to do after second-year QB Matt McGloin posted a masterful performance against the Seattle defense, leading the Raiders to a commanding 30-17 win Thursday night at home.

Derek Carr opened the game under center for Oakland, but after one quarter the Raiders were trailing 7-3 and Carr had done little of note. Looking for a change of pace, Allen sent in McGloin at the start of the second quarter, and the former Penn State QB stepped up to throw a scrambling pass to TE Nick Kasa which, combined with a buzzer-beating field goal, left the game at a narrow 17-13 in favor of Seattle at halftime.

McGloin led a series of successful drives, working off the run and throwing very effective off the play action, posting a 16 yard touchdown toss to Greg Little just before the 6:00 mark in the third quarter, putting his Raiders ahead for the first time in the game, 20-17. That lead quickly became 23-17 after another field goal, setting the Raiders just shy of a touchdown's lead heading into the final quarter.

On the other side of the field, Tarvaris Jackson was playing conservatively but accurately, having thrown for a perfect 10-10 for 135 yards and a touchdown through the second and third quarters.

Tarvaris Jackson looked excellent Thursday night, throwing very accurately for most of the night.

His first mistake didn't come until early in the fourth quarter, when his pass over the middle was intercepted, setting up McGloin to score his third touchdown of the night on a deep slant into the back of the endzone to Juron Criner, sealing the game and ending the preseason on a high note.

With Thursday night's win over the Seahawks, the Raiders have gone an even 2-2 in the preseason; 0-2 on the road, and 2-0 at home in Oakland. And with a commanding performance against Seattle, Matt McGloin has made a strong preseason-ending statement and shown that he deserves to be in the conversation about the Raiders' QB situation. While Derek Carr is struggling to adjust to NFL defenses, McGloin has shown that Matt Schaub still needs to be playing his best and looking over his shoulder.

Now that the preseason is completed, the Raiders will soon have to announce their final 53-man roster for the regular season, and owner Jackson Vandergrift has still promised an update on the Raiders' plans for the future. In the coming days, look for a full preview of the Raiders' 2014 regular season, analysis of their final starting lineup, and a look at the top college seniors making their way to the NFL next year.

Re: Oakland Exodus

Four games in the books, and oddly enough I've mirrored Oakland's real-life win/loss pattern this preseason. Working a lot this week, but before be sometime I'll do a little preview work for the upcoming season and then we'll be in gear for the games that count!

Thanks to those who are reading -- let me know what you think!

Well thanks! Glad to hear you're enjoying the read... I like to write, so I guess I have almost as much fun putting these write-ups together as I do playing the games. I'm having a blast making it so far, so I'm glad to see you guys are enjoying reading it.

Raiders 2014 Regular Season Preview

Raiders Announce Final 53-man Roster

The preseason allows NFL teams to carry an expanded player roster as they try to identify the best talent available to them, but by the time the regular season starts, each team has to make sometimes difficult decisions about who to keep and who to cut to make the NFL's 53-man roster limit. Just a day shy of the league deadline, the Oakland Raiders revealed their finalized roster and starting lineup.

While some teams face challenging decisions, the Raiders didn't have very many position controversies occupying their time. Most of the players who held out until the final cut were merely competing for distant backup roles -- such as HB Latavius Murray, who beat out Jeremy Stewart for the unenviable job of backing up the McFadden/Jones-Drew tandem, or CB Chimdi Chekwa, whose preseason playmaking moments earned him a spot as an occasional substitute in DB-heavy packages. Below is the full, final Raiders roster for the start of the 2014 regular season:

Key Players

The Raiders Quarterback situtation was a muddy one. After Terrelle Pryor failed to make an impact in 2013, the Raiders sent in rookie Penn State graduate Matt McGloin for the remainder of the year, but the result was unimpressive enough that the team sought out former Texans QB Matt Schaub to anchor the offense until they could find their solution for the future at QB.

Another veteran, Trent Edwards, was cut early in the season after he missed the first game due to a minor injury, and Head Coach Dennis Allen focused his playing time on his two younger backs. Second-round draft pick Derek Carr entered the preseason with a lot of buzz, but the rookie out of Fresno State failed to impress in any of his preseason outings. McGloin was on and off during the preseason, but after looking good in practice and performing well against the Seahawks in the final week of the preseason, Allen anointed McGloin as the starter for the beginning of the season.

While Schaub may have seemed the safer choice, Allen insisted that McGloin was reliably outperforming the veteran in practice, and showed better accuracy in the midrange and deep passing games, which he showed off in his three-touchdown performance against the Seahawks. Allen was quick to insist that the team had not given up hope on Derek Carr, and that the coaching staff would be working with both young men extensively to develop their talents, and that they would continue to re-evaluate their best interests throughout the season. It's not a 100% vote of confidence, but McGloin can enter the season knowing that his coaches are placing their trust in his ability to lead the game.

McGloin may have gotten the nod to start from coach Dennis Allen, but don't expect the Raiders to place the whole game on his shoulders. Talented as McGloin is, he won't be played like a Stafford or Bradford -- the Raiders will try to surround him with solid playmakers to take some of the pressure of him, and that strategy hinges around Oakland's double threat at Running Back. Maurice Jones-Drew and Darren McFadden are both talented runners, and with two strong performers at the position, Allen can alternate backs and keep a strong running game on the field without worrying about fatiguing one or the other.

Expect the Raiders to rely heavily on their ground game to support a quick, West Coast-style passing game that will try to keep McGloin comfortable in the pocket.

The Raiders had many position needs in the offseason, but they chose to invest their highest draft pick to select Buffalo LB Khalil Mack to become a feature playmaker in their defensive unit. With such high expectations, there will be a lot of pressure on Mack to make an immediate impact on defense and help to keep opposing teams in check so McGloin's offense can run a steady, methodical, game-managing offense.

Across from another young Linebacker in Sio Moore, Mack will need to bring speed and youthful explosiveness to the squad early on to justify his high draft investment.

Tarrell Brown is Oakland's number 1 Cornerback, and while the aggressive defensive front is trying to bring the heat to opposing Quarterbacks, it will fall to Brown to inspire his CB squad to make plays in the air. The Raiders have several players in their defensive secondary who lack explosive talent, so Brown's leadership will be essential to keeping the defense working smoothly to contain opposing teams.

Re: Oakland Exodus

Excellent presentation and I like the idea of being owner just long enough to move a team. I've thought about doing that myself in a 32-user context.

Are you going to keep them the Raiders? My new city list:

1. L.A.
2. Las Vegas
3. Portland
4. San Antonio
