The 2000's have not been kind to the Washington Redskins.
The three time super Bowl champions have had more last place finishes(7) than playoff appearances(3) since 2000 and have managed to go just 94-130 during that span. They've gone through 7 head coaches, and countless personnel changes yet they've been unable to recapture the glory of their past. It was especially bad this past season, where now former head coach Mike Shanahan fostered an aura of mistrust and negativity during a putrid 3-13 campaign.
It is into this cauldron that Jay Gruden walks.
A first time head coach, the former Arena League coach and most recently Bengals offensive coordinator has said all the right things, but so have a lot of others. Is he the right man to bring the Redskins back? This is his story...

Re: At A Crossroads In The Capital: A Washington Redskins CFM

Ok, before I get started I figured I'd let you know what to expect here. Following the season preview, I'm going to stick to one or at most two games per week. Each game recap will include full game stats, video highlights, and of course news and scores from the rest of the league. What I'm really going for is an NFL dynasty with an emphasis on the Redskins and coach Jay Gruden. If somewhere along the line I get fired, this dynasty will continue, picking up wherever I'm hired. The only way this ends is if I'm fired and not offered a job anywhere else.
Of course all feedback is welcomed, good or bad.
Thanks for following along, and for you guys also running CFM's on here, rest assured I'll be following along, stealing all of the good parts/ideas as I go......

I, too, have been sucked in by Madden this year. Glad to see you starting a Madden Franchise, I always like following your Fifa manager modes! Good luck with Washington, even though you'll be going up against my Giants!

Haha thanks!
I haven't played Madden like this since the PS2 days, so I figured why not do a dynasty(my first not with FIFA). When I was choosing a team, I didn't want to pick a good team, so that eliminated the Eagles(I am a Philly guy born and bred). After combing through the league I narrowed it down to the Raiders, Bills, Redskins, and Vikings. The other three already have at least one dynasty, so my decision was made for me! Besides that, I've always had a soft spot for the 'Skins(minus twice a year) Dallas and New York tho? I couldn't do it LOL.

2014 Washington Redskins Season Preview
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Make Or Break Time For RGIII

By Gregg Rosenthal
NFL.com Editor

It's hard not to love the Redskins' new weapons. The additions of DeSean Jackson, and Andre Roberts gives Washington one of the deepest wideout groups in the league with Pierre garcon already in place. Throw in TE Jordan Reed and RB Alfred Morris and the Redskins rival nearly any team in skill position talent. That includes Robert Griffin III, who is charged with learning a new offense under coach Jay Gruden.
The Shanahan clan had to go because of their personnel choices and dysfunctional leadership, but their offense inarguably racked up yards. The transition to Gruden could be bumpy, especially for Griffin.
There should be more optimism for improvement on defense, where the addition of Jason Hatcher should bolster a strong pass rush. Gruden's choice to stick with defensive coordinator Jim Haslett was curious considering his long run of mediocrity in Washington.

Biggest Concern

Everything in Washington starts with Griffin. After one season we all thought Griffin was headed to future MVP's. After two seasons, we aren't sure what to think. Griffin put himself at risk of injury way too much in the preseason, and is still learning the finer points of playing in the pocket. He often holds on to the ball for too long.
Griffin's developemnt in Washington is a bigger concern than any defensive story because it's not just about this season. The Redskins need to know without a doubt that Griffin will be THE GUY for a decade, not just 2014.
There are no excuses for RGIII because of the great weapons around him, yet we expect this to be a transitional season for him.

Training Camp Surprise

The defense looks surprisingly frisky. Keenan Robinson quickly firmed up the team's starting inside linebacker position, and has great potential as London Fletcher's replacement. Hatcher recovered from knee surgery and looked effective in his preseason debut. Ryan Kerrigan and Brian Orakpo are ready to roll. It's been a while since we were optimistic about a Washington front seven.

What We'll Be Saying In February

We'll be lauding the Redskins progress under Gruden, while still wondering where Griffin's career will go from here.
Around the NFL's predicted finish: 2nd Place NFC East(8-8), 17th in Around The NFL's power index.
