Dolphins get run out of London



9/28/14 - The Miami Dolphins flew into London on Tuesday morning after a long flight from Miami and a blow out loss at home to the K.C Chiefs. Coach Joe Philbin has the task of getting his team back on the horse as they have come out of the gate limping at 0-3. Ryan Tannehill can't seem to stay upright nor throw straight. The Third year QB is struggling thus far and failing to show the front office he can be the "Franchise" QB. Tannehill's contract will be up after his 4th season. The Dolphins never were in this game. Maurice Jones-Drew found the fountain of youth in London and ran rough shod on the Miami front 7 racking up 159 yards on 34 carries. It is the best game he has had in a few years. D.Mcfadden would close out a couple of long grinding drives with a couple of nifty TD runs. But this game was again a story of a QB holding the ball too long, and then getting happy feet and throwing 3 picks. Tannehill had a dreadful game. Also the Dolphins running game again was no where to be found. Veteran RB Knowshon Moreno failed to get anything going on the ground as did Lamar Miller.

Coach what is wrong so far this season? - Everything. Everything is wrong. We can't run, we can't protect our QB, and when we do he is making some very bad decisions. On defense we can't stop the run. This is now 4 weeks in a row we have been bowled over for well over 100 yards. We can't win games playing like this.

Coach will there be a change at QB? - No not at this time. Ryan is this teams QB and he must look inside himself to overcome this slump he is in. His teammates believe in him. We all think he can be a great QB. But it's time for him to show it.

Coach how do you approach the next game at home vs the Packers? - It's a must win...obviously. We have to get things going quickly, get some confidence early and things will take care of themselves. This team has a lot of talent, we have a brand new OL and they are still learning to trust each other. What is really hurtung us is all these 3 and outs. Our defense is exhausted. Anymore questions? The Dolphins come home to face the Green Bay Packers in 2 weeks as they have a bye in week 5.

Week 6 Packers at Dolphins



10/12/14 - The Miami Dolphins came home on a long flight from London. Pressure is building throughout the organization and new GM Michael Sword was said to have had a 3 hour closed door meeting with Head Coach Joe Philbin. It is rumored they talked about the teams start (0-4) and the status of QB Ryan Tannehill. Voices grew loud supposedly and then news out of Davie, Florida (Dolphins camp location) was the dreaded players only meeting, led by veteran RB Knowshon Moreno and DE Cameron Wake. Regardless of what was talked about, this is a team on the rocks and teetering on the brink of a complete meltdown. Couple that with a desperate Green Bay Packers team coming to town with a record of 2-3 and looking for an easy win against an 0-4 team that can produce no offense and you have the makings of mid season coach being kicked to the curb as well as the teams face at QB.

Ryan Tannehill needs a big game. This offense needs a big game. Well like has been the case so many times early this season, Tannehill would move this team on it's opening drive to the Green Bay 12 only to stall and settle for a FG. Green bay would then drive right down the field and Aaron Rodgers would find Jordy Nelson for a big 54 yard TD strike hitting Nelson in stride down the sideline on a failed CB Blitz. Tannehill would then lead his team to the Packers 7 yard line....and then a pick in the end-zone. Coach Philbin was seen slamming his headset to the ground. Emotion is something we have never seen out of Philbin in his previous 2 years here. Matt Moore was then seen warming up....Moore would enter the game. On his first drive Moreno would dig and drive and give Moore a running game. Driving into the red zone and on the 20 yard line Moore would hit a crossing Brian Hartline for a TD.

The Dolphins would lead at halftime 10-7

The Defense proceeded to take over in the third quarter pressuring and sacking Rodgers. The Dolphins running game was dominant with Moreno ripping off a 20 yard TD jaunt. The Dolphins led 17-7. After a big INT from 2nd year CB Will Davis Lamar Miller took a stretch play 38 yards (showing off his track star speed for the first time this season) for another Dolphins TD. 27-7 Dolphins. The crowd was rocking at Sun-Life sensing a huge win. The Packers though would score 10 quick points to cut the lead to 27-17 heading into the 4th quarter. But again the Dolphins controlled the clock with a dominant running game from Knowshon Moreno and would prevail with a big and much needed 34-24 win.

Coach is Matt Moore your starter going forward? - That has not been decided on at all. Ryan had some discomfort in his throwing shoulder all week and it reared it's ugly head in the game today. We felt Ryan was not at his best and Matt came in and managed the game great. Our running game was the difference, as well as our defensive line pounding on Rodgers all night.

Coach your heading to Chicago a team that can score a lot of points, what is the plan to slow them down? - Watching a lot of film Tuesday with my staff, we will see where we can exploit some things and hopefully the team can execute the game plan we will install.

Coach you got your first win, is this the start of a new beginning? - I would like to think that. But we have 4 losses. The room for error is quite small and we put ourselves in this position. We need to get on a roll here and get some of the heat off of us. You know...you guys are relentless. See eveyrone in Chicago.

Dolphins at Bears Week 7



The Dolphins rolled into Chicago with some wind at their backs after a rousing 34-24 home win over The vaunted Green Bay Packers. The Bears however are on a roll. Off to a 6-0 start Jay Cutler has his team on his back right now. The Dolphins knew they would have to score points early and often to keep the pressure on the Bears. Ryan Tannehill would get the start and he would waste no time. On his first play from scrimmage he would hit Mike Wallace down the sideline for an exclamation point 80YD Bomb for a TD! The Dolphins would then get a 3 and out and Tannehill again went to work. Mixing in some runs on first and second down he would then on a third and 5 hit Mike Wallace on a WR screen. BOOM! Wallace would break loose for another long TD and a quick 14-0 Dolphins lead. The Bears would be shell shocked. They would trade punts and the econd quarter began with the Dolphins again driving down the field but this time Knowshon Moreno would lead. The Phins finish off the drive after a screen pass to Moreno went for 45 yards, by having Knowshon plunge in from 3 yards out. 21-0 Dolphins. Then a huge play would occur. Cutler would scramble out of some pressure from Dion Jordan and take off...only to be laid out by Reshad Jones. Cutler would never return to the game, suffering a concussion. J.Clausen entered and fared no better.

Halftime the Dolphins would have a 28-0 lead and never look back as they rout the undefeated Bears in Chicago 41-14.

After the game here was Ryan Tannehill:

"This was the win we needed!" A signature blowout on the road vs an undefeated and great Bears team." Mike was just outstanding today as was Knowshon, and the OL. Lamar also is coming on. things are starting to turn around. I feel like we can win out".

The Dolphins go upstate to face the Jaguars win-less Jaguars.

Dolphins at Jaguars Week 8


Miami is on a roll. Tannehill has found his mojo and the running game has been nothing short of dominant. So going north on 95 to face the Jags....piece of cake right? Well it sure started that way. Tannehill would again in short order strike first, strike hard with no mecy sir hitting Mike Wallace on a WR screen for a big 56 yard TD. The WR screen is fast becoming a big play option in Bill Lazor's offense. The Dolphins talked about utilizing Wallace on more crossing routes and screens to feature his blinding sprinters speed. So far in the last 3 games is has been working to perfection. Tannehill on his second drive would get Brian Hartline more involved and then Knowshon Moreno would again rip through the defense and go for a 34 yard TD run.

Before you could say boo the Dolphins took a commanding 14-0 lead in the first quarter and it looked like the rout was on.

Not so fast. The start of the second quarter saw Blake Bortles launch a deep sideline route and hit Marqise Lee in stride for a monster 85 yard TD pass. That would end up accounting for 36% of the Jaguars passing yards for the entire game. Going into the half the Dolphins would hold a 14-7 lead.

The start of the second half saw the Dolphins get a three and out on Bortles. They were constantly harassing him (already picking off 2 passes in the first half on errant throws caused by relentless pressure). But Tannehill would then revert back to bad Tanny. He threw another awful red zone pick which would be taken all the way back for a Jaguars TD.

14-14 after 3 quarters.

Tannehill again would give the ball back to the Jags late in the 4th quarter which turned into another Jags TD drive capped off by a QB scramble by Bortles for a TD. Incredibly what started as a sure fire rout turned into a 21-17 deficit. The Dolphins would be getting the ball back with 2:34 seconds left in the 4th and a full compliment of their timeouts.

Tannehill would then direct an incredible 4th quarter drive which included a 3 and 15 conversion and a 4th and 4 conversion. He would then find Mike Wallace on a crossing route in the endzone to cap off the 2 minute drill and take the lead 24-21 with under 50 seconds remaining. The Dolphins would hold on and take their 3rd straight game to bring their record to 3-4.

Ryan Tannehill after the game:


"It was a dog fight. I thought we started out great, then I gave up that pick six and things went south. I again turned the ball over at critical moments. Fortunately we were able to turn it around and drive for the winning TD there at the end. I am proud of my teammates for sticking with me and following my lead there in the end".

Ryan...tell us about the pick six..what happened? It was a huge turning point - They had a great disguise on a curl route to Brian (Hartline) and I fell into the trap. I need to watch the film and make sure I correct that.

Ryan how is the team feeling now that you have reeled off 3 straight - Like I said last week after the Chicago game...I think we can win them all. Next week The Chargers come to town and they are a tough tough defense and Rivers is an elite QB in this league. Woodhead is a tough little cat and I know even though Matthews is out he will be a tough cookie to stop. Danny is sneaky fast and a tough inside runner for his size and he can catch the ball with the best of them.
