Re: We Are Texans

Texans Sign Simon

Simon will backup Jason Ankrah.

The Houston Texans have signed outside linebacker John Simon off the Ravnes' practice squad, according to a leage source. Simon was drafted in the fourth round last year by the Baltimore Ravens. As a member of the Texans 53 man roster, Simon will make the veteran minimum and be reunited with former Ohio State assistant coach Mike Vrable.

In seven games last season as a rookie, Simon recorded four solo tackles on special teams. He didn;t make the Raven;s active roster this year, though, and was signed to the practice squad.

To make room for Simon, the Texans waived Kory Toomer.

Defense, Defense, Defense: Texans Tame Manziel In 38-10 Win

AP Cleveland -- The Houston Texans got another great performance from their defense in the win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday afternoon. After dropping three straight games, the Texans have won two straight after the blowout win over Johnny Manziel and company.

The former Heisman trophy winner had a rough outing against a stout Texans defense. Manziel finished with 157 yards passing with no touchdowns and 3 turnovers (interception and 2 fumbles). Houston was able to get to Johnny Football with ease racking up 8 sacks in the process with J.J. Watt adding 3 more sacks to his season total. Number one pick Jadeveon Clowney made his presence known with a sack and hauling in his first career interception.

Quote:
"After Manziel got that big run on us we made it a top priority as a defense to lay him out when ever he dropped back and that's exactly what we did."
Texans QLB Jadeveon Clowney
The non hyped rookie quarterback Tom Savage had a decent outing completing 23-of-40 passes for 337 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. Arian Foster was 5 yards short of another 100-ysrd performance finishing with 95 yards on 17 carries. Former Michigan State Spartan Keshawn Martin caught a career high 3 touchdown passes in the win/

The Texans will no head back home to take on Andy Dalton and the Cincinnati Bengals next Sunday.

Thriller In H-Town: Randy Bullock Kicks Texans To 3rd Straight Win

AP Houston -- The Houston Texans and the Cincinnati Bengals gave the fans their money worth on Sunday afternoon. The Texans were able to slip past the Bengals 27-24 with Randy Bullock connecting on a 40 yard field goal to seal the victory.

Bullock, whose had an on and off year kicking, nailed a perfect kick to give the Texans their 8th win of the season. Houston got down early to Cincy with the Bengals jumping out to a 10-0 lead after the 1st quarter. The Texans responded by scoring 24 straight points in the 2nd quarter to go into halftime up 24-10. Houston would go scoreless until Bullock's field goal as the Bengals managed to tie the game late in the 4th behind Giovani Bernard's 60 yard touchdown run.

Quote:
"Tom and the rest of the offense set me up perfectly. Without them getting the ball down that quickly I wouldn't have had the chance to win it. Can't give me all the credit"
Texans K Randy Bullock
Even though Andy Dalton struggled, the Bengals running game and timely turnovers (Adam Jones fumble recovery touchdown) kept them in the game. On the flip side rookie Tom Savage had another impressive outing. The former Pittsburgh Panther threw for 317 yards and 2 touchdowns. Andre Johnson, whose having a career year, finished with 7 catches for 103 yards and a touchdown. Johnson continues to lead the league in receptions (92) and receiving yards (1,151).

Next week the Texans welcome their AFC South rival the Tennessee Titans for a AFC South showdown.

Sweet Revenge: Texans Embarrass Titans 53-21

AP Houston -- The Houston Texans made easy work of the Tennessee Titans on Sunday with a dominating 51-21 win down at NRG Stadium.

The Texans offense was firing on all cylinders racking up over 550 yards of total offense. Arian Foster got back in the groove finishing with 145 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns in the blowout win. Rookie Alfred Blue also chipped in 49 yards rushing and a touchdown. Receivers DeAndre Hopkins and Andre Johnson both went over the century mark in receiving yards with Hopkins catching 11 passes for 150 yards and a touchdown while Johnson caught 8 for 135. The 51 points scored was the most in team history.

But not everybody was happy with the outcome. Titans head coach Ken Wisenhunt had some choice words for Texans head coach Bill O'Brien post game.

Quote:
"They showed absolutely xero class and xero sportsmanship out there today by continuing to throw the ball in the 4th quarter with the game already over. Just plain pathetic is what I call it "
Titans HC Ken Wisenhunt
The Titans had a decent offensive outing with Jake Locker throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for another and the running game rushing for 139 yards. But the Titans main problems were the lack of effort on defense and the constant turnovers. Tennessee had a season high 7 turnovers in the loss (1 interception and 6 fumbles). The turnovers set the Texans up with easy field position which led to them scoring all afternoon.

Next week the Texans will take on another AFC South foe in the Jacksonville Jaguars.
