The Rise to Glory - A Raiders Franchise (Madden 15)

*I decided to start over*
Here I am as the new head coach of the Oakland Raiders. A team I grew up watching and loving, a life-long fan through the good times and the bad. I come into this organization after a terrible past decade in which the teams best record was breaking an even 8-8 (2010, 2011).

I bring the Raiders a new approach on both sides of the ball. Dennis Allen's old playbook is nothing special, and I bring in my own 'Scattergun' playbook, which is a West-Coast offense at it's core, with a few extra Spread offenses sprinkled in. Mainly I will be utilizing the running game along with the Short to Medium passes.
  • Offensive Playbook: Scattergun (custom)
  • Defensive Playbook: Pittsburgh - Mike Tomlin (3-4)
I need to work with GM Reggie McKenzie to bring in some fresh talent and upgrade some of our stale positions (most notable positions: RB, WR, RG, RT, CB, FS). We did a great job in the off-season of this season in Free Agency and the Draft signing future superstar Khalil Mack and drafting a potential gold mine in Derek Carr.

Re: The Rise to Glory - A Raiders Franchise (Madden 15)

Pre-Season

One of the major things I need to do this pre-season is I need to use the Game Prep on improving the Confidence and gaining EXP for top rookies Khalil Mack and Derek Carr.

Position Battles
QB: This is an interesting matchup for the pre-season as every QB have an equal shot at starting the first game of the year.
  • Schaub comes in after a dismal season in Houston having been dwindling the last few seasons, but hopefully the change in scenery can reinvigorate this QB and bring him back to where he was 4 years ago
  • McGloin was the rookie QB to take over for the ill-fated Terrelle Pryor experiment last year and had a decent season. He is unproven (only having played 7 of 16 games last year) but is a good pocket presence and could possibly bloom into a solid QB.
  • Carr was our 2nd round pick in the last draft and was highly touted after being relatively unknown throughout his college career. He showed great poise in the pocket, an ability to run and put out an amazing combine to show he belonged in the NFL. I like him in my offensive system and will give him a good shot to prove himself in the pre-season.
RB:The battle of the broken Running Backs. Both of these RBs used to be amazing but thanks to constant injury (DMC) and wear-and-tear on a terrible team (MJD.. well.. both, but mostly MJD) these RBs are on a downward spiral.
  • MJD is the starter for now, posing as a better 'bruising' type runner but has been more consistent throughout his career than DMC. Consider him to be more of the Fred Jackson-type of the Raiders.
  • DMC was the Raiders cornerstone when we drafted him in 2008 but has vastly underwhelmed mainly due to his constant being on the injury report. He is definitely the shiftier and faster of the two backs (the C.J. Spiller to our offense) but mainly will be used as a change-of-pace back unless he shows he is a considerable advantage over MJD.
Pre-Season Games

I simulate every pre-season game, they just aren't worth it to play. I simulate through the weeks with Injuries turned OFF so there aren't any ridiculous injuries that I cannot help with. I will see the stats at the end of the 4th game and make decisions under the Week 1 post, once again under the Coach's Corner.

Re: The Rise to Glory - A Raiders Franchise (Madden 15)

Year 1, Week 1

Coach's Corner:
(this is where I will talk about different things about the team like Draft Classes, who I am looking at for the draft, Trading Block issues, Team Re-signings, and some of my own personal notes about things happening with the team)

Draft Stories & Scouting
Team Needs: QB, RB, WR, LG, RG, RT, LE, RE, CB, FS, K
  • Natural Hitter: Dylan Nelson hopes to use the physicality he learned from boxing to become a great LOLB for Memphis.
    • "He's got a lot to learn still, but Dylan Nelson has looked impressive in his little time with Memphis" - Ross Tucker
Pre-Season Position Battles

QB Winner: Derek Carr
RB Winner: Maurice Jones-Drew

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the first game of my coaching tenure and the first time we will see the Scattergun playbook be unleashed. I am very excited heading into MetLife to take on the Jets; lets see how it goes!

What a game. So close to getting the Win, but a missed kick in the final seconds paved the way for the Jets to take it in OT. Welcome to the NFL.

Our Offense today was pretty bad. Derek Carr could not get anything really going through the air, throwing 26 of 34 for 263 yards 0 scores and 2 INTs. His main targets today were Mychal Rivera (5/64/0) and Rod Streater (5/44/0), but he needs to do a better job at throwing on the run. His Interceptions led to quick Jets Field Goals, so I have to commend our defense for not allowing big scores after our offense's mistakes. The Running game could not get anything going today, Maurice Jones-Drew only mustered up 38 yards on 17 tries, but did manage to find the end zone on the goal line. On the other hand, Darren McFadden, could not muster a single yard on 4 carries and was stuffed at the goal line and could not get in for, what should have been, an easy score (4th and Goal, inch-mark).

The Defense today was great all throughout the day, until we got into Overtime and it just looked like they had shut down. We held the Jets RBs to under 100 yards, Chris Ivory bulldozed his way to 93 yards on 23 carries and a score, while Chris Johnson could only obtain 18 yards on 5 carries. The Pass Defense was a joke today, making Geno Smith look like an amazing QB was pathetic. Geno went 25/30 for 238 yards and a score, but thankfully he did throw an INT to even that up a little bit.

Sebastian Janikowski was the villain of this one, we had great position to win the game as the time was going to run out, but thanks to the wind speed going left to right, I did not aim far enough to the left and the ball sailed wide right at the last second. In OT, the Jets and Geno Smith had no problem marching down the field and finally hitting Shaq Evans for the game-winning 34 yard touchdown.

First win as an NFL Head Coach, and what a game it was!

The Offense today was amazing all around. Derek Carr looked polished in the pocket today, hitting quite a few amazing plays and making Mychal Rivera (5/70/1) look like a top-tier TE. Rod Streater once again had a solid 4 catches for 40 yards, and looks to be great at holding onto the ball over the middle; however thanks to being up early I did not need to throw too much. Carr had quite a solid game going 18 of 30 for 200 yards, 2 scores and his only mistake on the day was his lone INT late in the game which could have cost us the game, but thankfully that was not the case. Maurice Jones-Drew was absolutely sensational today on the ground; busting off an unprecedented 143 yards on 19 carries and a TD. While I do want to employ a two-back system, Darren McFadden (5 carries 19 yards, 2 catches 7 yards) simply wasn't needed today to operate.

The Defense today was actually quite great. The Rush Defense was amazing, and did not allow a big game to star running back Arian Foster (15 carries, 63 yards) like I was anticipating. However, on the opening series for the Texans, QB Ryan Fitzpatrick went down to an injury and Ryan Mallett came into the game and made us look like fools - throwing for an astounding 291 yards and 2 scores on 22 of 29 throwing. His big targets on the day were Arian Foster out of the backfield, who caught 4 balls for 57 yards, and Uzoma Nwachukwu who nabbed 4 catches for 65 and a score. However, the Defense came together at the right time and D.J. Hayden intercepted Mallett in the end zone, as time expired.

I really need to start looking at RBs and WRs to put around Derek Carr who I really believe is going to be a phenomenal QB in the future. However, I may need to let go of MJD for a 1st or 2nd Round pick for this year, and look for a top-tier CB as well.

A tough but hard fought game today, but ultimately the loss can be contributed to terribly timed turnovers.

The Offense was actually quite good today, but thanks to an untimely fumble from Maurice Jones-Drew the Patriots were able to take the lead and hold onto it for good. Derek Carr had another solid performance, throwing 194 yards on 24 passes with 1 score and 1 INT, adding 21 yards on the ground. The one scary thing about today was that Carr got hurt on two separate occasions but only missed a series or two each time. With the passing game largely ineffective, the run game was needed and MJD did a solid job at running the ball today rushing for 86 yards on just 16 carries, but his fumble cost us a touchdown and the lead and ultimately was the death of this game for us. Marcel Reece had an opportunity at scoring at the goal line but could not cross the plane on a diving play. Three plays later I was able to sack Brady in the end zone for the Safety.

The Defense was actually quite amazing today, aside from one play which was Julian Edelman's 80-yard bomb. Aside from that play, the Defense really was incredible. The Raiders front-seven sacked Tom Brady 5 times, including Lamaar Woodley's 2 sacks and only allowed the Hall of Famer to throw for 213 yards - take away that 80 yarder and Brady only was able to throw for 133 yards, which is insanely good. The Rush Defense only allowed Stevan Ridley to get 67 yards on 18 carries and backup James White only got 18 yards on 3 carries (including his game-clinching 11 yard TD).

Once again, thanks to terrible turnovers and one bad defensive play call the game was lost, but it is a stark reminder that our team can be amazing; just need to find a few more pieces to the puzzle.

Draft Stores & Scouting
Team Needs:QB, RB, WR, LG, RG, RT, LE, RE, CB, FS, K

Even with Maurice Jones-Drew performing the way he is, 3rd in the NFL right now in rushing, I need to trade him off for a draft pick before the trade deadline. I will keep him until my Week 5 Bye Week and then ship him off to a team that needs an RB that has a bad record. There are a few backs I can begin to scout right now.

Players Added to My Draft Board
  • Jarrad Anthony (HB - Receiving Back / Spread - 1st Round #5)
    • The only 1st Round RB prospect. His PMVA's are not exactly what I was expecting for the #5 player on the big board, but he seems to be a burner like Chris Johnson. Speed, Acceleration: A.. BC Vision, Elusiveness: B.. Catch, Carry: C. I need to see about his Development trait, otherwise I will have to dip into the 2nd round or below for my future RB.
  • Carlton Blake (WR - Red-Zone Threat / Vertical Offense - 1st Round #20)
    • He is a big man (6'5") and has some pretty serious skills. Definitely at the top of my list right now. Speed, Catch in Traffic: A, Catch, Release, Acceleration: B, Route Running: C.
  • Lee Okuyemi (WR - Balanced / Balanced Offense - 1st Round #24)
    • Fits into my system better than Blake - but his PMVA's are a little more stable.. Speed, Acceleration, Release, Elusiveness: A, Catch, Catch in Traffic: B.

Ugh, what a terrible loss. It came down to the final few minutes but my god it was a punch to the gut.

The Offense today was stagnant to say the least. Derek Carr had a below average game today, throwing for only 192 yards and 1 INT (he had 2 throws that went down at the 1 yard line) and added 47 yards on the ground with a fumble (also at the 1 yard line). Rod Streater was once again the top beneficiary to Carr's throws, catching 5 balls for 73 yards, including one in the waning seconds to save the game, which ultimately led to Sebastian Janikowski's missed Field Goal at the end of the game. The Rushing attack was stagnant as well, Maurice Jones-Drew was absolutely nothing today until late in the game, only managing 39 yards on 17 carries, but believe it or not was actually on pace for a sub-2.0 YPC before busting 2 carries for 8+ yards late in the 3rd Quarter. The much more effective back was Darren McFadden who busted off 49 yards on just 14 carries and added in 2 scores. With the trio of backs I should be able to run the ball much more freely on defenses, but today was just a bad game.

The Defense today was extraordinary, but gave up a few big plays when it mattered most. Khalil Mack was an absolute menace today tallying 3 sacks against Ryan Tannehill, clearly disrupting his pocket presence as he was only able to throw 142 yards and a score on 18 of 27 passing. When he was knocked out of the game Matt Moore came in and completed both of his passes and tied up the game on a very nice pass to Brian Gibson. The Rush Defense was absolutely astounding as well, as Knowshon Moreno was only able to net 36 yards on 10 carries, and Lamar Miller was only able to get 21 yards on 4 carries. It was an amazing game stat-wise but the Dolphins prevail thanks to 2 dumb turnovers and terrible play-calling late in the game by me.

Re: The Rise to Glory - A Raiders Franchise (Madden 15)

Year 1, Week 5

Draft Stories & Scouting
Team Needs:QB, RB, WR, LG, RG, RT, LE, RE, CB, FS, K
  • Big Pick Six: Take away CB Nico Wallace's interception and touchdown return late in the 4th and Florida would have lost a big game this week.
    • "Wallace showed the nation what a playmaker looks like. If I'm a coach I'm telling my GM to go get this kid." - Deion Sanders
Clearly a big thing when Deion is calling you amazing, might have to check him out when my Scouting points get replenished.

  • Curtis vs Corbett: The Great Wall of C.J. Curtis was on full display in a key victory for Wisconsin.
My Big Board
  • Lee Okuyemi (WR - Balanced / Balanced Offense - 1st Round #24)
  • Jarrad Anthony (HB - Receiving Back / Spread - 1st Round #5)
  • Carlton Blake (WR - Red-Zone Threat / Vertical Offense - 1st Round #20)

Team Needs:QB, RB, WR, LG, RG, RT, LE, RE, CB, FS, K

Players Added to My Draft Board
  • Nico Wallace (CB - Run Support / Base 4-3 - 1st Round #23)
    • After seeing the positive mention from Prime Time last week, I needed to check him out and he does NOT disappoint! His PMVA's are insane, and he is definitely my top guy now. Speed, Jumping: A.. Zone, Man, Press, Pursuit: B - plus his Production rating of 108 is just insane
  • Joe Grayson (QB - West Coast / West Coast - 1st Round #2)
    • Clearly I don't need a QB, but I just want to see what kind of talent is out there; and he is not really worth the top-5 selection with his lackluster PMVA's. Throw Power, Accuracy Short, Med: B.. Awareness, Speed: C.. Throw Accuracy Deep: D..
  • Zane Manley (QB - Mobile / Vertical Offense - 1st Round #22)
    • Another lackluster first round QB choice, but definitely a better choice than Grayson. Throw Power: A.. Speed, Throw Accuracy Med, Throw on Run: B.. Throw Acc Short, Deep: C.. Awareness: D..
My Big Board
  • Nico Wallace (CB - Run Support / Base 4-3 - 1st Round #23)
  • Lee Okuyemi (WR - Balanced / Balanced Offense - 1st Round #24)
  • Jarrad Anthony (HB - Receiving Back / Spread - 1st Round #5)

  • Carlton Blake (WR - Red-Zone Threat / Vertical Offense - 1st Round #20)
  • Joe Grayson (QB - West Coast / West Coast - 1st Round #2)
Coach's Corner

Trade for Draft Pick
I definitely needed to make a trade to secure another top draft pick for this year. I decided to pull the trigger on Maurice Jones-Drew as he is having a great season, and I needed to sell high for a top pick, which I was easily able to secure thanks to the Jaguars' need for an RB
  • Raiders Give: Maurice Jones-Drew (HB - 81 OVR) and 2015 5th Round Pick
  • Jaguars Give: 2015 1st Round Pick
Injuries
  • Keith McGill (CB - 70 OVR) - Broken Wrist - Out 1 Week

This was such a letdown game, it's actually incredible how bad this game was.

The Offense today was awful. Derek Carr was calm in the pocket, but was ultimately ineffective only throwing for 203 yards 1 TD and 1 INT and mustered up 47 yards on 8 carries but coughed up the ball as well. James Jones was the only receiver that actually made something of his catches, nabbing 5 balls for 70 yards and a score. Marcel Reece had a bunch of targets out of the backfield but dropped all but one, and the one he did hold on to, he fumbled and cost us the game. The Jones-Drew trade puts the entire rushing attack on Darren McFadden's shoulders and he definitely did not live up to the hype today, only mustering up 31 yards on 16 carries. It was against a very tough San Diego defense so I will keep my fingers crossed that the next game is a little more easy.

The Defense was actually quite good considering. Once again the Defensive stats get the boost from the fact that San Diego scored a TD off of a turnover, and was able to start drives from great field position. The Pass D did an amazing job barring the long Antonio Gates receiving TD - he finished with 3/62/1. The San Diego rushing attack was actually quite good against our stout rush defense. Donald Brown (17/73/0) and Richie Brockel (9/85/1) were able to carve up the defense for big plays including Brockel's long of 46.
