Re: Big Blue Wrecking Crew - The New York Giants
Secondary The Giants secondary is being advertised as the team's strongest unit. The starting cornerbacks have the potential to become one of the league's finest outside tandems. Prince Amukamara, a 2011 first-round selection, became the team's top coverage man last season, but Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, signed in free agency, will likely take over that role in 2014. If you're arguing over the better cornerback between Prince and DRC, you're splitting hairs. Both players are very good, and opposing quarterbacks will need to be precise in order to squeeze in completions on either sideline. The safeties lining up behind New York's two stellar corners should be equally exceptional this season. Antrel Rolle was a second-team All-Pro and set a new career high with six interceptions in 2013. Stevie Brown is in the process of making his return from a torn ACL after intercepting eight passes in 2012. Rolle is the team's most vocal leader, and he is like a heat-seeking missile when chasing down a ball-carrier who's in front of him. Brown has proven himself as a viable center fielder, but there's still a lot he can learn from Rolle about playing the run in a more aggressive fashion. Slot cornerback Walter Thurmond III may not be in the starting lineup, but he's sure to play a high number of snaps in each game this season. With more and more teams utilizing three- and four-wide receiver sets, Thurmond will be a valuable commodity for the Giants in 2014. He considers himself the league's best slot cornerback. |

Re: Big Blue Wrecking Crew - The New York Giants
Game Report September 8, 2014 @ 00----26 Manning throws 5 picks in shutout loss The Giants looked lost for the majority of their game against the Lions when they opened up their season on Monday Night Football. Detroit took the game by a final score of 26-0 and it was never close after the first quarter. After a pick six by Lions CB Darius Slay got things rolling for the Lions they never looked back. Later in the first quarter Stafford hooked up with WR Kris Durham for a touchdown following another Giants turnover. Rian Lindell connected on all 4 of his field goal attempts and New York never got anything going. All told the Giants turned the ball over 6 times, 5 Eli interceptions and a lost fumble by runningback Rashad Jennings. "Pathetic. Just a pathetic performance. If we continue to play this way we'll be out of the playoffs hunt by week six." Coach Tom Coughlin replied when asked how he felt about the performance. They defense played just as poorly, giving up 410 yards and 21 first downs. They were able to force 4 field goal attempts. The Giants will host Arizona in week two. The Cardinals come in off a 29-3 win over the Chargers at home.

Re: Big Blue Wrecking Crew - The New York Giants
Game Report September 14, 2014 @ 17----34 Giants look like a whole new club against Arizona Coming off an embarrassing shutout loss to the Lions on the road in week one the Giants were looking for a bounce back game when they played host to the Cardinals earlier today. “You never want to lose obviously.” Eli Manning said after the game. “But you especially don’t want to lose two in a row.” Manning bounced back from an embarrassing five interception debut to lead the Giants to a 34-17 victory. Manning threw three touchdown passes. He was also picked off twice, though one was a hail mary to close out the first half of the game. Manning finished up with 384 yards on 28 of 44 passing. Carson Palmer threw three picks and one touchdown in the loss. Neither team ran the ball well and Arizona managed just 85 yards on the ground and New York 67. Jonathan Dwyer scored on a 1 yard run for the Cardinals late in the game while Giants fullback Conner scored in the third. The play of the game came late in the first half when Eli Manning avoided a sack and found Victor Cruz crossing the middle. Cruz hauled in the pass and outran the defense for an 85 yard score. New York led 21-10 after the play. “That was a big play for us right before halftime. It really gave us momentum on both sides of the ball in the second half.” Coach Coughlin said following the win. The Giants move to 1-1 and will host the 2-0 Texans who come in off wins over the Redskins at home and in Oakland.
