The Giants bounced back from an embarrassing shutout loss in Detroit to top the Cardinals 34-17 last week. The offense looked much improved though the running game still struggled. New York will look to build on their momentum on both sides of the ball. Houston comes in at 2-0 with wins over Washington and Oakland.

Re: Big Blue Wrecking Crew - The New York Giants

END OF AN ERA?
Could a season ending injury mean the end of the Peyton Manning's career?

Midway through the first quarter of the week two matchup between the Broncos and Chiefs Peyton Manning's career may have ended. On a third down play near midfield Manning's pass protection broke down and Chiefs linebacker Tamba Hali got a free run at him. Manning shifted to his right and stepped up in the pocket. Hali was able to land a glancing blow on Manning as he passed. Manning stumbled forward and got tangled up with an offensive linesman before being hit from his left by Justin Houston.

What happened next was hard to watch. Manning's left leg, still tangled with his linesman, snapped like a twig about halway down his shin. Manning writhed in pain as players from both teams looked on with concern. Denver's medical staff rushed onto the field.

"It was surreal real." Justin Houston said earlier today. "You never want to see any player get injured, regardless of if it's your teammate or your opponent. To be responsible for this injury turns my stomach."

Manning doesn't blame anyone.

"There's always a risk in this sport. If you get injured on a freak play like I was you can't place blame. It's unfortunate, but you can't blame anyone." Manning said after coming out of surgery.

"We're not thinking about that now. Just working on recovery at this point." He replied when asked if his career was over.

Zac Dysert took over for Manning and threw for 128 yards and a touchdown in the 38-10 loss.

Manning has accumulated over 65,000 yards and 497 touchdowns in his career.

Re: Big Blue Wrecking Crew - The New York Giants

NOT DONE YET
Jermichael Finley thinking comeback

When Jermichael Finley suffered a career-threatening injury last October 20th he thought his career could very well be over.

Finley, 27, had his C-3 and C-4 vertebrae fused a month after suffering a spinal contusion Oct. 20 on a hit by Cleveland Browns safety Tashaun Gipson. He can file a claim to collect the insurance policy one year to the day after the injury if he hasn't played in four games.

But after a workout Monday afternoon, Finley told USA TODAY Sports he intends to keep being patient and wait for an offer that can compel him to return from spinal surgery, rather than walking away and moving to collect a $10 million insurance policy. There are some complications with the policy however, as Finley has been cleared by doctors to return to play.

"If he's cleared to play then Lloyd's of London will surely fight against payment on the policy. He's definitely going to have a hard time collecting if he simply chooses not to come back." An insurance expert told us.

"As long as I wait, you know and I know, guys are going to go down and the money's going to shoot up," Finley said, sitting in the weight room at WelleFast Elite Sports Training. "It's all a waiting game right now."

Finley's most likely return destination is Green Bay though he has been in talks with the Giants.

"We obviously have a deficiency at the position so if he does become available we would certainly have to look into that option." Giants Coach Tom Coughlin stated yesterday.

"It's all up in the air right now." Finley said when asked what his future holds.

Finley has accumulated 2,785 yards and 20 touchdowns on 223 receptions in 70 games played, all with the Packers.

Game Report

September 21, 2014

ALMOST DOESN’T COUNT
Giants fall just short in narrow loss to Texans

“Hurry! Hurry up!” Manning shouted as he signaled for a spike play. He frantically rounded up the troops but it would be a futile effort as the clock struck zero before they were able snap the ball, giving Houston the 27-24 win. Manning stared at the scoreboard, hands on his hips, as the rest of the team filed out of the stadium.

Manning struggled again, throwing 3 interceptions. Among them was a 50 yard pick six by Hal and a fourth quarter pick by Cushing deep in Texas territory.

“I have to play better. Plain and simple.” Manning answered when asked about his performance so far this season. With ten interceptions and five picks some fans have been clamoring for Ryan Nassib to take over under center.

“Eli is our quarterback and I won’t be answering anymore questions about that.” Tom Coughlin answered curtly when asked about a possible quarterback change.

The game started off with a bang as Trindon Holliday hauled in the opening kickoff at his own 4 yard line and headed up field, he spun out of a tackle at the 22, made a few nifty cuts and took it to the house, giving New York an early lead and some momentum.

Rashad Jennings played well, picking up 57 yards on just 13 carries. He also picked up 31 yards and a score on 6 pass receptions.

“We wanted to get him more carries obviously, but we were trailing by so much before halftime we had to adjust the gameplan.” Coughlin explained.

Manning threw the ball 64 times in the loss.

“It’s becoming more of a passing league, everyone knows that. We never want to throw the ball 64 times in a game.” Offensive Coordinator Ben McAdoo explained after the game.

Victor Cruz and Reuben Randle both topped 100 yards receiving in the game. Cruz caught 8 balls for 103 yards and Randle hauled in 7 for 105 and a score. Odell Beckham Jr. grabbed 8 passes for 53 yards, mostly working the middle of the field on short to intermediate crossing routes.

New York’s new additions played well in the game. Guard Harvey Dahl improved the overall play on the offensive line and helped open up holes for Jennings. Robinson hauled in 4 passes for 25 yards. Jermichael Finley caught 3 passes for 22 yards before leaving the game with an injury. He will be evaluated tomorrow.

“We don’t know anything yet. We’re not going to speculate.” A team doctor replied when asked if it would be a career-ender for Finley, who suffered a severe neck injury last October.

For Houston it was all about Arian Foster, who picked up 206 yards and 2 touchdowns on 17 carries.

“We contained him pretty well on 15 of those carries.” Perry Fewell said, referring to the fact that Foster scored on runs of 75 and 50 yards. “I think he got about 5 yards a carry aside from those two big runs.”

Ryan Fitzpatrick managed the game, passing for 119 yards with no turnovers or touchdowns. Plaxico Burress led the Texans with 36 receiving yards on 5 catches.

New York will travel to Landover, Maryland to face the Redskins in their first divisional game of the season.

The Giants play their first divisional game of the season and with Washington on top of the NFC East it’s a must-win already. New York will look to lean the offense on the run game a but more as Manning threw the ball an astounding 64 times last week. Jennings is still looking for that breakout game this season. Giants nemesis DeSean Jackson faces off against them for the first time as a Redskin.

Game Report

BEHIND THE WOODSHED
Redskins dominate Giants

Tom Coughlin’s expression and body language said it all as the final gun sounded. The 68 year old veteran Head Coach looked at the scoreboard, threw off his headset and tossed his play sheets on the ground with a scowl. He pointed to Eli Manning, who had left the game with what is now being described as a stinger, and said “We’ve got work to do.”

Manning threw three interceptions in the loss, giving him 13 in just 4 games. On pace for even more that his 27 in 2013.

Manning did connect with Mario Manningham for a touchdown, giving him 6 on the season.

Rashad Jennings had his best game of the season with 85 yards on 21 carries, he also added 90 yards on 6 receptions.

Victor Cruz caught 8 balls for 85 yards.

The Giants defense took the ball away just once while the offense turned it over 4 times. Bacarri Rambo took an Eli Manning interception back 85 yards for a score, which broke the game wide open for Washington early in the second quarter.

Ryan Nassib played well when he took over for the injured Manning, completing 14 of 20 passes for 116 yards and no turnovers.

New York drops to 1-3 and they sit in a 3 way tie for second in the NFC East with Philadelphia and Dallas. Washington leads the division at 3-1.

The 1-3 Falcons come to town for week five.
