GUTIERREZ CLIMBING UP DRAFT BOARDS AFTER 55 YARD GAME WINNER


GUTIERREZ HITS A 55 YARD GAME-WINNER AS TIME EXPIRES

Trailing by two points with 5 seconds left on the clock coach Urban Meyer had a decision to make: Throw a hail mary or trot out Kicker Frank Gutierrez to try a career-long 55 yard field goal.

"I can make this coach." Gutierrez pleaded, knowing he had hit from 56 before the game.

"Frank seemed pretty confident that he could hit from that distance, a hail mary from there has a very low success rate so I gave him a shot."

Gutierrez didn't let his coach down. In a slight left to right wind Gutierrez split the uprights with a kick that would have been good from another 5 yards out. He was nearly trampled in the celebration.

"I got a great snap, the hold was perfect and everything just went right. I knew as soon as it left my foot." Gutierrez told Holly Rowe after the game.

"You certainly look for guys to come through in clutch situations like that." One NFL scout said yesterday. "For kickers, most of them can kick so you've got to look at intangibles. He'll move up a lot of boards if he keeps it up."

Gutierrez says he has always hoped to play in the NFL but he's focused on this season right now.

Frank Gore, 49ers run all over New York

“I’ve already said I’m not going to answer those questions, one more and this press conference is over.” Shouted a visibly angry Tom Coughlin when a third reported asked him if Ryan Nassib would start next week against the Cowboys.

Nassib replaced Eli Manning late in yesterday’s loss to the 49ers and led a quick scoring drive which he capped with a nice 27 yard TD strike to Victor Cruz. Nassib was 3 of 4 on the drive while Manning went 28 of 57 for 272 yards, one TD and a pick six.

Colin Kaepernick threw a TD pass each to Anquan Boldin, Stevie Johnson and Michael Crabtree in the Niners 31-21 victory.

Frank Gore carried a whopping 39 times for 198 yards.

For New York Rashad Jennings had another solid performance, amassing 98 yards and a score on 20 carries. Jermichael Finley hauled in 10 passes for 114 yards while Cruz caught 8 balls for 110 yards and a pair of scores.

The Giants fall to 4-6 and will host the Cowboys who defeated them 24-17 in Dallas in week seven.
