Special Teams Power Crimson Past Big Red, 28-21
Harvard Downs Cornell to Break Losing Skid
Boston, MA - Special Teams are meant to be just that...SPECIAL...and that is exactly the kind of performance Harvard got from theirs in a 28-21 win over Cornell. 4th Quarter returns by Corey Mazza (71 yard punt return) and Matt Lagace (98 yard kick return) helped the Crimson overcome 6 turnovers, break their current 3 game losing skid and even their Ivy League record at 1-1. Cornell drops to 0-1 in the Ivy and 0-5 overall.
In the 1st Quarter, Chris Pizzotti found Mazza in the left flats. Mazza juked one defender and out ran 2 others for a 43 yard touchdown. Pizzotti found Mazza again in the 2nd quarter, this time from 33 yards out, and Harvard had a 14-0 lead at Halftime. Cornell got the ball to start the 3rd, and junior QB Antonio Pendleton wasted little time hooking up with Jacob Ross and Stanley Grant on a pair of 32 yard scoring strikes. Harvard's offense didn't do anything besides turn the ball over and it was 14-14 at the end of the 3rd. Mazza found the end zone for the 3rd time when he returned a Big Red punt 71 yards for a touchdown early in the 4th, but Cornell responded with a 29 yard TD run by Alphonso Patrick with a little over 2:00 to play. Harvard special teams bailed out the Crimson a 2nd time when Matt Lagace took the ensuing kick off 98 yards for the winning score. Pendleton drove the Big Red to the Havard 15 before stalling out on downs.
Coach Reynolds comments...
First off, really happy to get this win today. After losing 3 straight, we really needed to get a W...and really needed to get the taste of that loss to Brown out of our mouths. Thanks to the BYE we have been chewing on that for about 14 days now. Nice to see Gino back in the lineup. I thought that gave us a little balance on offense. Hopefully that continues moving forward. Pizzotti played well at times, but watching him throw 5 interceptions just about made me throw up on the sidelines. We have GOT TO find a way to keep our offense from turning it over so dang much!!! 9 times in two weeks! Cost us the game last week and dang near cost us this one as well. Defensively we have to tighten up the ship a little as well. The Pendleton kid is good, but he shouldn't be able to go 27-53 for 337 and a couple of scores against us. Finally, we came out of a game healthy...looking forward to getting ready for Columbia next week. Thanks for following! Go Crimson!"

UPDATE
Pre-Game Roster Information: @ COLUMBIA

Columbia 1-4,(1-0). The Lions picked up their first win of the season last week by beating Dartmouth 35-24. We are currently leading the Ivy at 2-1, but we are also the only team to have played more than 1 conference game at this point. Brown, Yale and Columbia are all undefeated at 1-0. Cornell, Dartmouth, Penn and Princeton all sit at 0-1. Columbia is slightly worse than we are on paper, but the game is in New York so they have that going for them. This is the type of game that we need to win. Period. That would even our overall record at 3-3, and I would feel really good about being 3-1 with 3 to play in the Ivy.

- INJURY REPORT -
Van Niel is recovered from the broken leg suffered in Week 1, and we are as healthy as we have been since coming out of fall camp.
- CONDUCT REPORT -
(no pic)
Colin Morris, FR - Tight End
Team Rules

Columbia will be the final game of Morris's 3 game suspension for breaking an undisclosed policy in Harvard's Athlete Code of Conduct.

Harvard Tames Lions, 60-7
Starters Given 2nd Half Off in Blowout Win Over Columbia
Manhatten, NY - Gino Gordon carried the ball 15 times for 183 yards and 3 TDs in a little more than one quarter of work, and the Crimson reserves played the entire 2nd Half in today's victory over Columbia at Wien Stadium. Chris Pizzotti led all passers with his 9 of 16 throwing performance for 179 yards and 3 TDs. Harvard scored 27 first quarter points and led 44-0 at halftime. Columbia was never really in the game from start to finish. The win evens Harvard's overall record at 3-3 and moves the Crimson to 3-1 in the Ivy League. Columbia drops to 1-1 in the Ivy and 1-5 overall. Harvard returns to New York next week when it visits Army. Thanks for following! Go Crimson!"

UPDATE
Pre-Game Roster Information: @ ARMY
Buried in the fine print of last week's blowout win over Columbia was the fact that Andrew Berry went into the training room holding his shoulder midway through the second half. Berry, a junior cornerback from Bel Air, MD, is the Crimson's defensive captain and currently has 22 tackles, 9 pass breakups, 3 interceptions and a defensive score. Now I am being told that he also has a separated shoulder and will miss 8-9 weeks. Worst part of the injury to Berry is that it didn't need to happen. We were playing our backups the entire second half and Berry somehow sneaks onto the field as a punt returner. He returned a punt 19 yards and got hurt when he was tackled. Never, NEVER should have even been on the field. Now he will most likely miss the rest of the regular season. We will petition for a medical redshirt, but I am almost positive that he has already played in too many games for that. Freshman Jeffrey Hall will replace Berry in the starting lineup. Players will vote for a new defensive captain prior to our upcoming game with Army.

Army Tells Harvard "Good Knight"
Crimson Surrender 21 4th Quarter Points in Loss
West Point, NY - Army jumped out to a 10-0 1st quarter lead, but we stuck to our guns, stayed patient and fought our way back into the game to tie things up at 17-17 after the 3rd. Matt Lagace took an end-around reverse for an 85 yard TD run to put us up 24-17...and I really thought that we were on our way to picking up a HUGE win on the road. Turns out that Army had other plans. The Black Knights returned the ensuing kickoff for a score to tie the game back up at 24's. Then Pizzotti threw a Pick 6 and we were down 31-24. We were forced to go for it on 4th Down, Army stopped us and turned the short field into another score late. Final: 41-24, Army. The loss drops us to 3-4 on the season and snaps what had been a nice litte 2 game winning streak. Gordon had a nice game on the ground (26-110, TD) but we are still struggling to find any consistency on offense. Pizzotti was only 8-20 for 100 with 1 TD and 2 Ints. Still not sure what the answer is on that one...he is far and away our best option at the position right now. Things don't get much easier for us next week when we take on Navy in Annapolis.
Thanks for following! Go Crimson!"

Defensive tackle Carl Ehrlich has been diagnosed witha broken wrist and will miss 9 weeks...effectively ending the season for the junior from Bethesda, MD. Ehrlich suffered the injury making a tackle in last week's loss against Army. It was his only tackle on the season. Berry is still rehabbing his shoulder and is about 7 weeks out...

Navy Sinks Harvard
Crimson Drop 2nd in a Row to Service Academies
Annapolis, MD - Different service academy, different state, same result....a Harvard 'L'. This time the Crimson dropped a 25-19 decision to Navy. The wins improves the Midshipmen to 4-4 on the season while Harvard drops to 3-5. Trailing 10-0 at Halftime, Harvard battled back to tie the game at 10-10 before giving up a late 3rd quarter score. A 1-yard plunge by Chris Pizzotti brought the Crimson back a second time, but Schindel shanked the PAT and Navy still held a 17-16 lead. Schindel atoned for his earlier miscue by nailing a 32 yard FG to give Harvard a 19-17 lead, but Navy would manage to find the end zone one final time. A 2-point conversion made the score 25-19 and Harvard was unable to get anything going before time ran out.
Gino Gordon carried the ball a season high 33 times for 145 yards and 1 score to lead the offense. Pizzotti was a rather pedestrian 12-26 for 156 through the air, but at least he didn't throw any picks. Really not much else to talk about. At the end of the day, even Navy has more talent than we do right now and we just could not make enough plays or get a big stop when we needed to. Frustrating....
Thanks for following! Go Crimson!"
