Huskies Take Bite out of Crimson
UConn Hammers Harvard, 52-31

Hartford, CT - Not really too much to say about the *** kicking that we got today from UConn. Two wins in a row had me feeling kind of good about where we were, or where I thought we were, as a program...kudos to the Huskies for bringing me back down to earth. Gino had another great day...21 carries, 180 yards, 3 TDs...but he didn't have a whole heckuva lot of help. Witt completed less than 50% of his passes...he is never going to be great, but he has to be better than 12 of 30 for 173. It still isn't helping that our receivers dropped 6 balls, but it was nice to see Marcus Everett (frosh) make a nice catch and run for a 78 yard score.

Defensively, Glenn Dorris had 8 tackles and an INT but other than that we didn't play particulary well on that side of the ball...obviously as we gave up over 50 points. Really not too much else to talk about. We have games against Army and Navy on the horizon before we get back into the Ivy. Thanks for following! Go Crimson!"

Crimson Down Knights
Harvard Holds Off Army, 47-38

West Point, NY - Jeff Witt completed 15 of 26 for 255 yards and 3 TDs, Gino Gordon rushed for 112 and 2 TDs on 27 carries, and Alex Breaux chipped in a nifty 101 yard kick off return for a score in our win today over Army. Our defense was a little sloppy here and there...gave up way too many yards through the air...but they also forced 6 turnovers (4 INTs and 2 FRs) to give us some good field position throughout the game. Really, really happy with the win! I am sure that some people will say that it is "Just Army"...well, last year "Just Army" beat our tails 41-24 so all the nay-sayers can stick it where the sun don't shine. The way the schedule sets up, this was a big game for us. We travel to Navy next week before ending the season with 6 straight Ivy League games. Really nice to get a little momentum rolling again after the U-Conn loss last week. Only down side to the win is that Breaux came up limping late in the 4th. Still waiting to see what the trainers have to say about him. Thanks for following! Go Crimson!"

Crimson Slip By 'Shippies
Harvard Outlasts Navy in Defensive Struggle, 21-14

Annapolis, MD - Thankfully Gino Gordon was able to find some footing in a driving rain storm today in Annapolis. He carried the ball 22 times for 171 yards and 3 TDs to push us past Navy. Conor Murphy had 10 tackles, Glen Dorris and Colin Zych both had 9, and JB Monu batted away a pass on 4th down to seal the deal. The Harvard sports information department is giving the game a Great Game Score of 288 (#3 All-Time), but in my opinion it is much bigger than that. It moves us to 4-2 on the season and we wrap up our slate of "non Ivy" teams at 3 wins and 2 losses. Last year we were 0-5. Can't say enough about our staff and our players right now. Offensively we seem to have found a groove and we are doing just enough on defense to make things work. Really, really happy to be sitting at 4-2, 1-0 in the Ivy with 6 League games remaining. That starts with a road trip (our 4th in a row) to Cornell next week...then home against rival Yale for "The Game". Thanks for following! Go Crimson!"

Crimson Down Big Red
Strong 2nd Half Pushes Harvard Past Cornell, 47-21

Ithaca, NY - Jeff Witt threw 4 1st Half INTs to help keep Cornell in the game today. Thankfully the Big Red were only able to convert a couple of those into 14 points. Witt did manage to sprinkle in a 26 yard TD pass to Matt Luft and Gino Gordon added a TD run to give us a 14-14 tie headed into the lockerroom. A good old fashioned *** chewing and a not so subtle reminder to our OC about running the ball helped get things turned around in the 2nd half. Gino ended the day with 241 yards and 3 scores on 25 carries and freshman Adam Price added 41 yards on 12 carries of his own as we scored 17 points in the 3rd and 16 more in the 4th to ice the game away. Cornell threw the ball all over hell, but they didn't do much of anything else. Our defense recorded 8 sacks, held the Big Red to negative yards rushing, and JB Monu returned a fumble for a TD to cap things off. The win moves us to 5-2 on the season and a perfect 2-0 in the Ivy. We finally get to play a game at home next week when we host Yale. It will only be the 2nd time in Harvard Stadium this year and the 1st since way back in Week 3. Thanks for following! Go Crimson!"

2009 Edition of "The Game" Goes to Harvard
Crimson use 35 point 3rd quarter to cruise past Yale, 45-7

Cambridge, MA - You never know for sure what is going to happen in a rivalry game, and I have to admit that I was a little nervous only being up 10-0 at half over the 'Dogs. To that point we had only been able to get a short TD run from Cheng Ho, our fullback, and a Bonner FG. Gino had been kept bottled up and Witt couldn't seem to get us on track offensively. Good thing that the D decided to show up and pitch a shutout to that point. We got the ball to start the 3rd and things seemed to start clicking right away. Gino broke free to the outside for a 51 yard TD run, Price returned Yale's punt on the ensuing possession for a TD, Witt found Luft on a 61 yard scoring strike following a quick 3 and out, and Berry grabbed a Pick-6. Next thing you know we are up 38-0 and most of the fans were still waiting in line to use the pisser!!!
From there Yale pretty much packed up shop. Witt found Ho out of the backfield for another TD later and we played the subs for the rest of the game after that. Win moves us to 6-2 overall and more importantly 3-0 in the Ivy. We travel to Columbia next week, then back home for two BIG games against Brown and Princeton. Thanks for following! Go Crimson!"

Reynolds, Crimson Nab 1st In-Season Recruit
Rayner Excited to Hold Down Harvard's O-Line

Cambridge, MA - This is the first in-season recruit to commit to us since the day I first stepped foot on campus, so I am not exactly sure what to say or how to report it. We had about 4 recruits in the stands for last weekend's win over Yale, but only 1 of them felt good enough about our program to give us his commitment...Marvin Rayner. Rayner is a 2-star recruit from New Berlin, WI that projects to play Guard for us. He looks the part, 6'4 and 315, plus his coaches think that he has GOOD potential. Zach Copple will graduate after this season and most of the talent behind him is what I would call marginal at best. I look forward to getting Rayner into camp next Fall to see how he grades out.
Thanks for following! Go Crimson!"

Crimson Over Lions, 48-7
Win over Columbia gives Harvard 8 for the Season

New York, NY - Not much suspense today in our game with Columbia. We came out wanting to establish ourseleves on the ground...once we did, we never really tried much of anything else. Gordon had 301 yards and 3 scores on just 16 carries....in the FIRST HALF. Freshman Adam Price played exclusively after the break and added 123 yards and 3 TDs of his own. The Lions picked up a late cheap score against our #2's. Besides getting the W, we were able to rest dang near everyone in the 2nd half and get out of NY healthy. Now back to Cambridge for next week's game with Brown. Winner will have the inside track to the Ivy Title this year. Thanks for following! Go Crimson!"

Crimson Tame Mighty Bears
Harvard Claims Ivy Lead with 35-10 Victory

Cambridge, MA - I am not sure what it would take for a Ivy League game to be considered a showdown, but today's matchup with Brown could be close. We come into the game ranked #53 with a 7-2,(4-0) record and Brown comes in #54 with a 7-1,(5-0) mark. Winner today clearly has the inside track to the 2009 Ivy Title.
1st Quarter: Our opening drive stalls out near midfield, but CORSO calls for the fake punt. Bonner's wounded duck is caught by Moore for a 1st down to keep our offense on the field. Gordon caps the drive with a nifty 12 yard TD run. 7-0, Crimson. Brown mishandles a punt deep in their own end later in the period and Alex Breaux alertly falls on the ball in the end zone. 14-0, Crimson.
2nd Quarter: A short TD run by Bryce Miller and a FG following a Witt Int close the gap to 4 at 14-10. Witt throws another INT but Mathew Thomas returns the favor by picking off Erik Hopkins and returning it to the house for a pick-6 moments before halftime. 21-10, Crimson.
3rd Quarter: Gordon breaks a long 55 yard TD run around the right side. 28-10, Crimson.
4th Quarter: Witt finally finds somebody in a red jersey when he hooks up with Matt Luft for his only TD pass of the day. Our D pitches 2 shutout quarters after half and the final is 35-10, Crimson.
Thanks for following! Go Crimson!"
