Re: Boston College Eagles Dynasty (NCAA 2014)

Dented Eagles

Both teams lose their starting quarterbacks for 3-4 weeks in 42-28 Boston College win.

NC State and Boston College came into the game looking to have a good, even matchup. What they did not expect was for each team's starting quarterback to get knocked out of the game and be hurt for the rest of the regular season.

NC State's QB, Garrett Leatham, fell first, getting injured on a run in the 1st. He was only able to throw two passes for 19 yards and run three times for 12 yards before being knocked out for 3-4 weeks. But that was not the end for the Wolfpack. In the beginning of the 3rd quarter, backup QB Jalan McClendon (he threw for 118 and ran for 69). was also injured on a sack. Although his injury only put him out for the rest of the game, this put in true freshman Davis Brown, who was probably being redshirted before this game. He ended up doing well, throwing for 108 yards, a TD and an INT; and running for 33 yards.

Then, in a later drive, Eagles QB James Walsh was sacked and unfortuantely put out of action for the rest of the game and the regular season. Backup QB Darius Wade was forced to take over the whole offense, whose last game passing was against Notre Dame in Week 3, where he had an atrocious day and was stripped of his passing duties after the game. However, he was able to put that game behind him, as he finished 6-for-11 and throwing for 56 yards, a TD and an INT (the pick was his first pass). BC coach Davis Bradwell commented on his performance after the game, saying: "At first, I wondered if I would have to take a redshirt off of one of my freshmen and make them play. But Darius did a good enough job to let me give him a second chance at passing. His accuracy, as always, needs work, but if he can be consistent, then he will be the full time quarterback for at least the rest of the regular season."

Both teams had tremendous days running the football, with the Wolfpack getting 249 rushing yards and the Eagles getting 303 rushing yards. NC State's was a team effort, with their top two backs, Matt Dayes and Shadrach Thornton, as well as backup quarterback Jalan McClendon all getting 60+ yards on the ground. Boston College's, as usual, was mostly by star back Jonathan Hilliman, who rushed for 179 yards on 27 carries.

Once again, BC's offense started the game off slow, not scoring until late in the first quarter. But the first score still came to the Eagles, it's just that it came off of a 59 yard scoop and score by Mike Strizak on a Wolfpack fourth down. But they would immediately strike back, tying it a 7 literally halfway threw the 1st. BC would get a field goal to make it 10-7 at the end of the 1st. The second quarter belonged to NC State, as they rolled over BC's usually stellar defense, scoring two TDs to make it 21-10 at the half.

Boston College would get another field goal early in the third to make it 21-13, but the Wolfpack immediately scored, putting them up 28-13 (they were on their third-stringer by now). But BC's defense would reject the Wolfpack offense foe the rest of the game after that, allowing the Eagles to come back and score 29 unanswered points, tying the game at 28 by the end of the third and scoring two more TDs to finish off the game with a 42-28 victory.

Boston College is now bowl-eligible at 6-3 (5-1) and is a real threat to win the Atlantic division. However, their last three games of the season are against the three teams behind them in the division (FSU, Clemson and Syracuse). Next week will be senior day for BC as they host Florida State (6-3, 4-3) in a chance to nearly clinch the division.

Re: Boston College Eagles Dynasty (NCAA 2014)

Brought Back Down to Earth

Florida State easily handles Boston College 42-14 to snap their four-game win streak.

Boston College had no chance to beat FSU at home, allowing 42 points and 451 yards of offense as they lose 42-14 for the first time in four games.

Many questioned how well Darius Wade would do in his second full game as the main passer, but he did a pretty good job with the exception of 2 interceptions. He went 21-for-34 and threw for 249 yards, while also rushing for only 12 yards on 12 attempts. As for Seminole quarterback Jameis Winston, he excelled once again, going 25-for-29 and throwing for 289 yards as well as 4 TDs. He also rushed for 67 yards.

Florida State’s defense did an excellent job of stopping Boston College’s running game, holding Jonathan Hilliman to just 82 yards and only 119 yards overall. “I don’t think anyone in the ACC had been able to stop our running game until this game,” said coach Bradwell. “It just goes to show you just how good [Florida State’s] defense is.”

As for the Seminoles, their running game was not very effective either, but that was saved by their passing. Starter Mario Pender was injured in the 1st and did not come back until the second half, but backup Delvin Cook came in and did his job, rushing for 72 yards on 14 carries. Pender would come back in and finish with 29 yards of rushing.

The game started off slow; with the first score coming in the middle of the 1st by Florida State to take the lead 7-0, but it was all Seminoles from there. They would score on their next two drives to extend their lead to 21. Boston College would score with 14 seconds left in the 2nd to go into the half down 21-7.

Florida State once again came out firing on all cylinders, scoring on their next two drives to take a 35-7 lead going into the fourth quarter. They would score once more to take a 42-7 lead, but Boston College would finally score for the first time in nearly a full half to make the score 42-14. The might’ve scored again at the end of the game to make it 42-21, but a pick was thrown near the goal line, so the final score was 42-14 Seminoles.

With the loss, Boston College falls to 6-4 (5-2). They still have the division lead, but they must win out to win the division. It will tough with their last two games being on the road. The first comes next week as the Eagles travel to Clemson to take on the 7-3 Tigers.

Re: Boston College Eagles Dynasty (NCAA 2014)

Mistakes Were Made

Clemson makes two big mistakes at the end of the game to seal a 31-24 Boston College win.

Boston College got an impressive win at Clemson, improving to 7-4 (6-2) on the season, and just one win away from a trip to the ACC Championship. Clemson had a good chance to win the game with 3 minutes left, but they made two mistakes to give the win to the Eagles.

Clemson had the ball left with 3 minutes left with the score tied at 24 and had a chance to drive down the field and take the lead. But Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson made the mistake of throwing the ball when no one was open, throwing it to a flat route, and Boston College cornerback Tyson Maxwell picked off the pass and took it back for a touchdown to take a 31-24 lead. Clemson got the ball back, but they played was too conservatively, electing the punt the ball away on 4th and inches with 1:47 left, a questionable play call that allowed BC to get the ball back and run the clock out to end the game.

"I'll take the win, but I was surprised when they punted the ball on fourth down. They hadn't done a good job of stopping out run game all day, so I wondered why they thought that they would be able to stop it this one time" commented BC coach Davis Bradwell.

Other than that pick, Deshaun Watson had a great day, throwing for 300 yards and a touchdown, and running for 65 yards. BC QB Darius Wade had an average day, throwing for 156 yards and a touchdown, but that was because the running game excelled. He ran for 61 yards on 16 carries.

Eagles halfbacks Jonathan Hilliman and Myles Willis amassed 115 and 62 yards, respectively, attributing to what was another great day running the football for Boston College. Myles had his biggest impact towards the end, where he broke off a few big runs to run down the clock. On the other side of the field, Tigers halfback Zac Brooks ran for 55 yards on 15 carries, and also getting a touchdown.

The first half was defensive, with only one score coming in the first quarter on a 22 yard field goal by Jake Wilhelm, giving the Boston College a 3-0 lead. Clemson would get the only two scores in the second quarter, throwing a touchdown pass and kicking a field goal to go into the half up 10-3.

The third quarter belonged to BC, getting two touchdown runs from Jonathan Hilliman to take the lead 17-10. Clemson would strike back early in the fourth on two touchdown runs to take a 24-17 lead, but Boston College would put together a time-consuming drive that ended in a 34 yard pass to tight end Michael Giacone to tie the game at 24. Clemson would proceed to throw a pick six and punt the ball away, and BC ran the clock down to triple zeros to end the game with a 31-24 win.

Boston College (7-4, 6-2) is one win away from an Atlantic Division title. They travel to Syracuse to take on the Orange (6-5, 4-4) in the last game of the season.
