Cyclones Ripoff Late Scores to Win Cy-Hawk
by-Bryce Alexander, Cyclone Beat Reporter
Ames, IA-The Hawkeyes and The Cyclones played a sloppy game in monsoon like conditions saturday afternoon, a place where the Cyclones eventually found there footing. The game kicked off on the second play from scrimmage when Devondrick Nealy, who had a 103 yds on the day, broke off a 66 YD TD to give ISU a 7-0 lead, the scoring continued with 1:58 left in the first when K/P Cole Netten hit a 42 YD FG, his first of the year, to make it 10-0 ISU. Iowa got on the bored next With a 26 yd pass from Rudock to Powell 10-7 ISU with 0:11 seconds left in the first. The next ISU drive was bogged down due to drop passes, the Cyclones dropped a total of 5 passes all game and at one point QB Sam B. Richardson was 1-10 passing. Iowa would continue to score when Koehn hit a FG in the second to tie the game up at 10. After another poor drive by the Cyclones, the Hawkeyes took advantage and scored a TD when Weisman ran it in from the 1 to make it 17-10. ISU added a FG from Netten as it went to half to make the score, 17-13. Coming outta the half the third quarter was full of bad drives for both teams and there was not any scoring. The fourth started out the same until an interception by SS TJ Mutcherson, his second of the day, opened the flood gates as ISU would score the next 21 points in just under 4 minutes with Richardson hitting Bundrage for a 14 YD TD, Anton Wimberly running it in from 25 YDs, and Rob Standard getting in from 13 YDs out. Standard has two carries this year and both are for TDs. The final score was ISU 34 Iowa 17. Coach Rhodes after the game was resigned to the fact that the conditions maybe played a part in the drops, "We dropped alot of wide open passes, we could've had this game over at the half. We have to make these play, we have to make plays when our gameplan works to get us open."
