Re: The New England Patriots: The Masters Era (M15)
2014 Preseason Week 2 Patriots Cuts
Spoiler
RB Tyler Gaffney: With a deep backfield, he seemed to be the odd man out, and he struggled running the ball sometimes.
OT Jordan Devey: The Patriots have a talented group of tackles, and it seemed inevitable that Devey would be cut. DL Michael Buchanan: He didn't make a tackle in two games, and struggled to get a consistent pass rush going. LB Ja'Gared Davis: He had a bad first game and a good second game. With eight linebackers still in the mix, he seemed to be a longshot to make the team. S Kanorris Davis: Didn't produce much in his first two games. He wasn't able to make much of a difference in the run-stopping department. |

Re: The New England Patriots: The Masters Era (M15)
Julian Edelman celebrates after a touchdown Patriots Starters Dominate in Dress Rehearsal Game We had a preseason rematch of last year's controversial Monday Night Football game between the Carolina Panthers and the New England Patriots. Let's just say we didn't get the same ending. After forcing a three-and-out, the Patriots would get to work on offense, driving the ball down the field before Tom Brady would throw a 35 yard touchdown pass to Julian Edelman on a slant pattern. The Pats would get the ball back quickly, and Brady would find Brandon LaFell deep on a streak for a 48 yard touchdown pass. Patriots lead 14-0. With the Carolina backups in, the Patriots defense would have no trouble continuing their dominance, continually stopping the offense all quarter long. The Patriots offense would get stopped for the first time and settle for a 42 yard field goal. When the Pats get the ball back next, Tom Brady would find Stevan Ridley, who would break two tackles in route to a 32 yard touchdown. The Patriots would have one last chance to score as time expires, but Stephen Gostkowski pulls the 49 yard field goal to send the game to halftime. Patriots up, 24-0. With both teams playing their backups now, the offenses would struggle get anything done. This ended when Ryan Mallett pulled a play-action fake and found Aaron Dobson wide open down the field for a 67 yard touch down. The Panthers would then take over and march down the field and score a 7 yard passing touchdown. Patriots lead after three, 31-7. Teams would start the fourth by swapping punts before Jimmy Garoppolo gets the Patriots going. He would go 7/7 on a drive where he threw a 2 yard touchdown pass to the newly acquired Joseph Fauria to extend the lead. On the Patriots next possession, Garoppolo would throw an interception down the field on a pass intended for Dobson. On the next play, Patriots safety Shamiel Gary would get his own interception, his second of the preseason. For the last score of the game, Stephen Gostkowski would make a 53 yard field goal, his longest of the preseason. Patriots win 41-7.
Note: Not all stats were able to be recorded; Shamiel Gary's INT was off of Graham Gano, who filled in temporarily for injury reasons. |

Re: The New England Patriots: The Masters Era (M15)
Ups and Downs - 2014 Preseason Week 3 Ups Tom Brady: Was surgical with 239 yards and 3 touchdowns in just a half of play. Stevan Ridley: Averaged 5.6 YPC on 10 carries. Also had 38 yards receiving and a touchdown. Aaron Dobson: Nearly 100 yards receiving. He got deep for his 67 yard touchdown pass. Dont'a Hightower and Jerod Mayo: This duo was relentless against the strong Carolina Panthers rushing attack. Combined for 10 tackles and 3 for a loss. Zach Moore: Was able to put together a consistent pass rush and total 3 sacks. Downs Brandon Bolden: Struggled to get consistent yards. Averaged 3.3 YPC. Jeremy Gallon: Again, couldn't find a way to get open. Only has one catch in three games. Chris Jones, Duron Harmon, Patrick Chung, Nate Ebner, Jake Bequette, Rob Ninkovich, Joe Vellano, Chandler Jones, Sealver Siliga, and Jemea Thomas all failed to produce. Re: The New England Patriots: The Masters Era (M15)
2014 Preseason Week 3 Patriots Cuts
Spoiler
HB Brandon Bolden: After two years with the Patriots, primarily playing special teams, he is cut after failing to put together a consistent running game. He finished with 79 yards, averaging 3.4 YPC.
WR Jeremy Gallon: After being taken in the seventh round this year by the Pats, he had a disappointing preseason performance where he only caught one pass for fifteen yards. TE DJ Williams: After being picked up by the Pats in the middle of last season, he struggled to really get much production on the field. He was a great college tight end, but it seems his size hasn't allowed him to find much success at the pro level. C Braxston Cave: He has competed with Chris Barker for the backup center role, and it never seemed there was an advantage between the two. Yet, it seems the coaching staff has seen enough and made their decision. DL Jake Bequette: After being drafted by the Patriots 2 years ago, he hasn't really ever seen the field in a regular season game. He wasn't able to record a tackle this preseason, and this ends a disappointing stint. S Jemea Thomas: He was taken in this year's sixth round, and hasn't produced much this preseason by only totaling one tackle. He also seemed to be outplayed by Shamiel Gary, who has three tackles and two interceptions. |

Re: The New England Patriots: The Masters Era (M15)
Aaron Dobson catches his third touchdown pass on a 4th and goal Dobson Leads Pats to a Perfect Preseason The New York Giants and the New England Patriots in week 4 of the preseason. It is a very common match-up that happens almost every year. And even in the preseason, the Giants have had the Patriots' number. Today was an exception. The Patriots decided to rest everybody that had secured a starting role, so in the first quarter they were short-tooled against the Giants starters. Ryan Mallett gets things going on the Patriots first drive until he is picked off by Jameel McClain. Eli Manning and the offense would then march down the field and hand it off to Rashad Jennings for a 5 yard touchdown. The Patriots offense would then find themselves in field goal range, where Gostkowski would kick a 46 yarder to get the Pats on the board. Giants lead at the end of one, 7-3. Ryan Nassib would then lead the Giants into field goal range, and Josh Brown would kick 38 yarder to give the Giants the one touchdown lead. Ryan Mallett would then lead a steady drive that is capped off by a 5 yard touchdown pass to Aaron Dobson to tie the game. Nassib and the Giants would get the ball back, and with about a minute left in the half, Nassib finds Corey Washington on third down for a 12 yard touchdown. What would happen in the next minute toyed with the emotions of the crowd. Mallet and the Patriots would look to do something with two timeouts and a minute left, but on the first play of the drive Aaron Dobson fumbles after a catch and the Giants recover. Then, on the first play of the Giants' drive, Ryan Nassib throws an interception to Kyle Arrington, who takes a touchback. Ryan Mallett would then look deep for Joseph Fauria, but is intercepted by Nat Berhe. Ryan Nassib's next throw would be intercepted by Malcolm Butler, which puts the Patriots in excellent field position. Ryan Mallett would complete a few setup throws, and Stephen Gostkowski would kick a 50 yard field goal to end the half. Giants lead at halftime, 17-13. With Jimmy Garoppolo in the game at quarter back for the Patriots, both teams would struggle to score. The Giants eventually got a 27 yard field goal near the end of the quarter. Following that field goal, Garoppolo would lead a quick drive that ended in a 3 yard touchdown pass to Aaron Dobson. Game tied at 20 going into the fourth. When the Patriots get the ball back Jimmy Garoppolo would drive them until he scrambles for yards and is hit, getting injured. Garoppolo is taken out of the game and doesn't return. Mallett takes back over and leads the offense into field goal range, where Gostkowski makes a 53 yard field goal, give the Patriots their first lead of the game. On the next Patriot drive, Mallet would lead the Pats down field to the goal line. On three plays, the Pats fail to get in. At the two-minute-warning, Coach Chad Masters decides to go for it and is rewarded with a one-handed touchdown catch from Aaron Dobson, his third. Down by ten, the Giants look to hurry and score, but when Darrelle Revis subs in, he gets the game-ending pick to seal the victory for the Pats. This finishes the Patriots perfect preseason. Patriots win 30-20.
Note: Not all stats were able to be recorded
