Florida Atlantic Owls

South Florida Bulls
(1-1, 1-0 Home)
Injury Report
Alex Deleon/Ribs
Probable

Game Notes
Florida Atlantic looks to bounce back against another in state foe in USF. South Florida has Marlon Mack, a very good runner who will look to dominate the Owl defense similar to the way Duke Johnson did. FAU in order to win will need to prevent the big plays and give similar offensive production to the record breaking performance they had a couple weeks ago against Miami (FL).

The Owl offense was clicking on all cylinders again this week. Almost 500 yards of total offense, 314 yards on the ground, and a more efficient passing game. The Owls had two rushing touchdowns from receivers, and spread the ball out really well. The defense played a lot better. They were getting to the quarterback more, and forced 5 turnovers. 4 were interceptions. Cre'Von LeBlanc had two of those, and Damian Parms took his for a big touchdown that made the game a two score game in the 4th quarter. Despite a few big runs, they were able to contain Marlon Mack. He had a 50 yard run but other than that he was shut down for the most of the game.

This isn't the image Owl fans want to see, Jaquez Johnson is out for 3 weeks after a shoulder injury.
The injury bug has bit the Owls this game. In the first half Jaquez Johnson was injured getting thrown to the ground after he completed a pass. He will be out for 3 weeks after an injury to his shoulder and should be ready to play in a big conference matchup against Marshall. Then freshman receiver playmaker Trey Rodriguez was injured and will be out for two with a back issue. The worst of them all will be running back committee leader Jay Warren is out for the season with a broken elbow.

At running back we are going to drop the committee approach for now and Greg Howell will be the lead man getting almost all of the carries out of the backfield. At receiver and in the return game we are going to miss TreyRod for two games but he isn't our only receiver that can make impact plays. We had two receivers run for touchdowns today and I think that is something to be excited about.

We have got to get better at defending the pass because we aren't going to be able to expect 4 interceptions every game.

Re: The Ace-The Coaching Career of Jordan James

The injury bug sucks man. I know. When you run a ground-and-pound offense, your players take a lot of hits. I learned that fact the hard way early in my dynasty. That's why I distribute the ball a lot with my QBs & RBs. Run a 2-QB offense while going 3- or 4-deep at RB. Even get the receivers involved in the running game. Keeps everyone fresh, and makes my offense more creative .

Not trying to tell you what to do, just giving you my approach to things. Congrats on the win.

Yeah thanks for the advice! That's why I like to keep my backs fresh. I usually just go with one QB unless it's early in the season and it's a battle. But sometimes I'll have 5-6 RBs on the roster who all have their own seperate formation they use to run in, we just don't have the guys to do it yet.

I think I can still compete the drop off in throwing skill isn't as much as I thought. Hankerson can run but just isn't as great of a runner as Johnson. If anything happens to Hankerson I'm gonna have to pull the redshirt off the younger Driskel though. I'm upset because we play Auburn after this game and I wanted everyone healthy for it. I'm just excited to get my recruits in and finally see my offensive vision.

NEXT MAN UP

IMG_5621[1]</a>
Greg Hankerson completes a pass in the second half against South Florida
Coach James said that he wanted to instill a "Next Man Up" mentality. With Jaquez Johnson out for the next few weeks we will be seeing a lot of Greg Hankerson. Hankerson showed control and game management ability against South Florida. He completed 8 of his 10 passes for 98 yards in relief for Jaquez, who exited the game with a shoulder injury.

Johnson is only projected to miss two games, but one of them may be the toughest test of the season for the Owls. In two weeks they will play Auburn, led by running quarterback Nick Marshall and running back Cameron Artis Payne. The Owls will have their hands full with the Tiger's explosive running attack that is known for breaking big plays; which just happens to be the Owl defense's Achilles heel.

Re: The Ace-The Coaching Career of Jordan James

Sorry for the lack of updates my brother has been using my PS3, and everything has been busy lately (beginning of the summer get togethers and what not). I know we are only a few games into this one but it'll pick back up soon!

I would post more in this, but my PS3 had to be restored to factory settings Right now with work and school I don't know if I would have time to play and post now that college started back this week. I would have to go at a limited schedule, I'll think about it! I'm gonna test out my schedule to see if I would have the free time! I will definitely follow yours!
