Year 5 (2015), End of Season Head Coach Evaluation

Interoffice Memorandum to Head Coach Clayton: Contract Evaluation

To: Head Coach Dan Clayton
From: Athletic Director Michael Gragg
RE: Contract Evaluation

Head Coach Contract Evaluation

Coach Clayton,

As we wrap up the 2015 season, please take a moment to review your contract goals. Myself and the board of visitors could not be more thrilled with the direction you continue to guide our program. While we were disappointed to not bring home the National Championship trophy, even appearing in the game was nothing short of breathtaking. I would have never predicted when we hired you five years ago that we would be where we are. As we begin this next chapter in the history of our program, moving to the Big Ten conference, we trust in your leadership to guide us. We will be held to a higher standard now on and off the field.

You now begin the second year of your current three-year contract. We will continue to track your goals. These goals, as has been done in the past, will continue to be reviewed at the end of each season, so you can track your progress.

Thank you for your service and commitment to the program and the university.

Sincerely,
Michael Gragg
Athletic Director Eastern Michigan University

lol @ reaching the national championship game and sitting at only 91%. Seems minuscule, but should be 100% in my book. It should have been 100% for years at this point!

Haha the Eastern Michigan board of visitors is just starting to have higher expectations it appears. Hopefully we will be able to keep pushing that security higher and earn a new extension early at the end of the season. Thanks for checking in man!

Year 6 (2016), Coaching Carousel Update

Penn State's Tom Bradley and Nebraska's Tim Beck are two of the new head coaching faces this season in the Big Ten.

Changing of the Guard: Long Time Coordinator Tom Bradley Takes Over Penn State

ESPN – For the second time in the past five years, the head man for Penn State has decided to call it a career and hang up his whistle. Head coach Galen Hall announced this past Tuesday that he would be retiring from coaching at age 75, in order to “spend more time with his family.” Hall, who served as the offensive coordinator for the Nittany Lions under former head coach Joe Paterno, has served as the head coach for the past two seasons following Paterno’s retirement. Penn State will now turn to long time defensive coordinator Tom Bradley to lead the program, as the Pennsylvania native signed a two-year contract to take over the head coaching job. Bradley has been on the Penn State staff since 1979 when he was hired as a graduate assistant. He has served as the team’s defensive coordinator since 2000. In 2005, he was named by the Associated Press as the defensive coordinator of the year.

Nebraska elected to terminate and buy out the contract of long time head coach Bo Pelini. In the past five seasons Pelini had put together a 38-27 record. Most recently the Huskers finished a 7-6 season, which ended with a 41-17 win over Tulane in the TicketCity Bowl. He will be succeeded by offensive coordinator Tim Beck, who signed a four-year contract with the team. While parting ways with Bo, the university did elect to keep his brother, Carl, on staff extending his contract as defensive coordinator. Neither brother has been available for comment since the move.

Also of note was the surprising termination of long time Central Florida head coach George O’Leary. O’Leary, who was named the Coach of the Year in 2012, guided the Golden Knights to a number two ranking that year and a National Championship appearance. UCF would lose the game 30-14 to LSU. In 2013, UCF would again bust the BCS under O’Leary’s leadership as the team defeated third ranked Maryland in the Orange Bowl. Following the season, the program would accept an invite to the Big East Conference. Since making the transition, the Golden Knights have gone 15-11. O’Leary will be replaced by UTEP defensive coordinator Jay Bateman. Bateman served as the defensive coordinator for Ball State from 2011-2014.

You gotta update that ESPN banner. They've really changed their graphics.

Haha very true. I like to have the consistency throughout the report though so I will probably be sticking with it. Maybe I will look to change the layout in the future. Thank you for checking in!
