Re: A Rising Storm in the North | Cheese's Eastern Michigan Dynasty
Cheese! It's great to see you back on the boards. Nothing better than not checking around here for a while and when I do, you pop back in with some posts.
Dominant win over Notre Dame; gotta love that ground game of yours getting after it!
WMU gave WVU all they could handle on the road. I like that, despite the 0-2 start for Coach Harrison.
Love hearing that things are good for you in real life, as well. Glad to see you back on here.

Nice win, that was a great statement to make over Notre Dame.
Thanks JCT! Always good to hear from you my friend. It looks like your Wyoming team needed a week off to recover from all the partying they were doing after that big upset last week!

Thanks for checking in man! Completely agree with you. West Virginia typically puts together a pretty prolific spread offense look so to keep them contained is definitely a big accomplishment. I think things are looking up at Western Michigan this season, after several down years.

My friend! Great to hear from you and great to be back on the boards with everyone. I really did miss it, more than I can say. Life is pretty good right now and I seem to be settling into a good work/life balance.
Definitely a strong showing for us against Notre Dame. The Irish have really been having a tough going in the conference since joining. It will be interesting to see if they stay in the conference in the future or elect to go back to being independent.
As I was saying above to your defensive coordinator (BrandonRocket), I think Coach Harrison is definitely turning things around at Western Michigan. I think you guys could make a strong showing once conference play starts. Thanks again for checking in!
Hoping to have the Virginia Tech preview up in the next couple days. Thursday at the latest. Thanks!
ESPN College Gameday Live from Blacksburg, Virginia with Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit and Rece Davis
Rece: Blacksburg, Virginia…Folks, we go to noisy stadiums all around the country, I am not sure we have ever been at a scene where fans are any more pumped than they are right here today. Waiting for the Hokies to take the field…They are jumping, they are screaming, and it has been this way for the last thirty minutes.
Head coach Chris Cosh waits in the locker room with his team. This is the week they have pinpointed on the calendar for a very, very long time.
Head coach Dan Clayton and the Eagles better sleep with one eye open because when you are in Blacksburg, the Sandman comes. Exit light, enter night, welcome to College Gameday’s return to Blacksburg.
Kirk: Now how about that for an entrance…This is the game that the whole country will be watching as the Eastern Michigan Eagles, ranked sixteenth in the polls, meet the number five Virginia Tech Hokies. As we start to take a look at this matchup, coach, what really sticks out to you?
Lee: Looking at these two teams, you have to notice their similarities in both their strengths and their weaknesses. All-American and Heisman hopeful quarterback Joel Reid, who led the team last season to a National Championship berth, leads the Hokies. Not to be forgotten of course is redshirt senior tailback Sam Hicks. The Elmont, New York native is touted by many to be the fastest halfback in the country.
Across the field, we have an equally impressive tailback in Kevin Singleton. Singleton is the workhorse of Coach Clayton’s highly touted rushing attack and is the latest to carry the mantle for the seventh year head coach.
Rece: Now coach, you mentioned that these two teams not only share the same strengths but also the same weaknesses and I couldn’t agree with you more. There is no secret that the biggest weakness for both squads is their offensive line. Looking first at Eastern Michigan they have had to shuffle their squad. Looking just at the left tackle position you have senior Brad Smith, who has been a career center playing at the tackle position for the first time since his sophomore year in high school.
Kirk: Well if we look at Virginia Tech, they certainly have their own struggles in the trenches. The entire right side of that line is freshman in tackle J.R. Henderson and walk-on Kevin Vinson. You know Eagles defensive end Mike Mackey is licking his lips when he looks at his matchup here this afternoon.
Rece: Now you know we would not be on this show and not discuss the controversy surrounding Eagles head coach Dan Clayton and his return to Blacksburg. For those of you who don’t know Clayton lived in Blacksburg for 25 years completing both a bachelor’s degree and doctorate at the university. It was just a few months ago that Clayton come under fire when he was spotted sporting a Virginia Tech hat while down in Orlando for the Eagle’s Capital One Bowl matchup. So coach, is this a big deal?
Lee: Listen, I understand where Clayton’s heart was when he wore that hat trying to support his alma mater as they played for the National Championship but he is a head coach. You are the leader of your school and your team, you can’t be looking like your allegiance lies elsewhere when you are in the spotlight. Clayton should have known better and you know what it’s time to decide.... is he a Hokie or an Eagle?
Kirk: Bold words coach. So let’s hear it, who do you have in this one?
Lee: Well you know many years back I picked against the Hokies and a lightening bolt struck my car. I still don’t fully know what Hokie is but like I said before, God must be one of them…Now give me that Hokie head…
Can't believe this will be your first foray against your Hokies. That had to have taken some will-power not to want to schedule them until later in the dynasty.
They are pretty stacked across the board, except for right guard (ouch! lol).
Sam Hicks looks like an absolute beast and you also better not let Joel Reid catch you slipping with those two speedsters at WR. You have some good speed in the secondary to counter it, but if they get behind your zone coverage, you could be in a world of trouble.
Objectively looking at the matchup and where the game is being played, I think Lee made the right pick here. However I also believe Coach Clayton will have his boys ready and they won't go down without a fight. We need Singleton to come through with a big performance here coach!
