Thank you for the kind words and the support man! Oregon State looks to have quite the solid offense and with Bud Foster now the head coach, I expect the defense to be tough as well. Should be a good challenge for us. I would love to get a win against a BCS opponent (something I have never done thus far).

Hahah I hear ya my friend! Unfortunately, I got sucked straight into another series of work and exams right after I got through the first. With things finally starting to go back to a normal pace and the holidays fast approaching, I am hopeful I can get this back to its more usual pace. For now the Oregon State game is about to get fired up!

Firing up the Oregon State game now, as we speak. Thank you all for hanging in there!

Year 3 (2013), Game 4, Eastern Michigan at Oregon State

Oregon State wide receiver Tyrequek Zimmerman would take home player of the game honors for his 5 rec, 148 yds, and 2 TDs. Zimmerman hauled in scores of 53 and 67 yards.

Falling Short: Eagles Can't Complete Comeback in 36-31 Loss to Oregon State

Eagles fourth quarter rally falls short as defense crumbles | Clayton meets former colleague Bud Foster as opponents for the first time | Eastern Michigan to open conference play next week against rival Central Michigan.

AP Corvallis – The Eastern Michigan Eagles came up just short of securing their first win against a major conference opponent under head coach Dan Clayton, as they fell in a tough fought 36-31 game to Oregon State. The Beavers, who are under new head coach Bud Foster, improved to a 3-0 record behind a prolific offensive attack that accounted for 534 yards on the day. Bud Foster, who had previously been the defensive coordinator for Virginia Tech, is an old friend of Clayton's. Before coming to Eastern Michigan in 2011, Clayton had spent the past five years in the Virginia Tech athletic department. Clayton was also rumored to have been offered the vacated defensive coordinator position at Virginia Tech this past offseason. The position was eventually filled by Texas Tech offensive coordinator Neal Brown.

Redshirt sophomore Malcom Agnew only had two carries in the game, but took both in for touchdowns. Agnew finished the game with 68 yards and two scores.

The game would start off as a defensive struggle as the two teams traded field goals in the first quarter. Eastern Michigan would find the endzone first as HB Joel Humphrey would punch in a four yard touchdown early in the second quarter. The lead would be short lived, however, as Oregon State would answer right back on a powerful 49 yard touchdown run by redshirt sophomore HB Malcom Agnew. Agnew broke three tackles on the scoring run. The Beavers would get their first lead of the game several possessions later when WR Tyrequek Zimmerman got behind freshman CB Wes Dunlap on a 53 yard score. Oregon State would take a 23-10 lead into halftime.

Things would quickly go from bad to worse for the Eagles early in the third quarter. On the first play for Oregon State, Zimmerman again got behind the defense, this time for a 67 yard touchdown. Zimmerman, who took home player of the game accolades for his performance, took advantage of the Eastern Michigan scheme which had shift coverage to the other side of the field in an effort to contain WR Brandin Cooks.

"We came in to the game concerned about keeping Cooks in front of us. With all the attention we were paying him, we failed to account for Zimmerman and it cost us dearly." -- Eagles Head Coach Dan Clayton

Eastern Michigan would attempt to rally back as QB Tyler Benz connected twice with freshman TE Jay Phillips for scores. However, the Eagles defense could not get off the field as Oregon State was able to run substantial time off the clock and ultimately walk away with the victory.

Eastern Michigan (2-2) will be on the road again next week as they open conference play against their in-state rival, Central Michigan (1-2). The Chippewas are coming off of a 31-6 road loss to N.C. State. Eastern Michigan has won the past two games of the annual rivalry, including a 30-17 win in Ypsilanti last season. The Eagles dominated the game led by a powerful rushing attack that put up over 200 yards on the ground. Central Michigan is led on offense by redshirt senior HB Zurlon Tipton (207 yds, 3.7 avg, 0 TD). Kickoff is scheduled for 6 pm est.

Re: Year 3 (2013), Game 4, Eastern Michigan at Oregon State

Welcome back cheese, looks like an exciting game and just couldn't quite get it done. Probably lucky to be that close with the yardage that was given up. The influence of Coach Clayton no doubt; Good luck the rest of the year and with the upcoming CMU matchup; gotta beat the other directional teams!

Tough loss in that one, looks like a nice stretch of winnable games coming up though

Thanks Hellisan! Happy to be back and have a little more time in my life, which is rare at times. We really put up a fight in the fourth quarter, but ultimately our defense just couldn't get off the field. They are still the weaker unit but hopefully with a few more seasons, we will continue to get stronger on both sides of the ball. Definitely a big conference opener against CMU coming up. Rivalry games no matter the skill levels are always tough! I appreciate you following along and checking in!

Thanks djp! Definitely a game I really wanted, but it just wasn't meant to be. We will get there though. I think we should be competitive through most of the MAC schedule. I would love to get us back to the conference championship game.

Yeah, we are still very young as a program. Our roster is slowly getting better but we still have a ways to go. Thanks for following along Tearz!

Re: A Rising Storm in the North | Cheese's Eastern Michigan Dynasty

Great to see this thing get going again.

Good job stopping Cooks, but like you said, that attention you gave him just opened up things for others. That 20-point second quarter by them was killer. In all, great showing though. You guys are close.

Good luck against Central!
