When do Northern Illinois and Toledo play each other? I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but if you can win the next four (which will be difficult given your team), that last game with NIU could be for the MAC West title.

Yeah he does! That's funny I didn't think of that.

Nice rushing performance and great job from the defense to keep Eastern Michigan in the game against the no huddle offense.

Haha I never even thought of that until you said something but you are absolutely right, he totally does.

Northern Illinois and Toledo will actually meet in two weeks so that game will have a lot of implications. That being said, like you mentioned, I am trying not to get too ahead of myself. We are still underdogs in almost every matchup and even hitting the six win mark would be huge for the season. I think Kent State will also be a much tougher game than it looks by record. They are much better on paper. The only game remaining on the schedule I even feel semi-confident about is the Ball State matchup and even that won't be a gimme. If we can string together some wins though, you never know...Thanks for checking in my friend and the fantastic feedback!

You know Welch, always trying to play like one of the big guys. He has been having an amazing season for us thus far. Thanks for following!

Our ground game has really been shouldering the load for us and seems to be the only thing even keeping us competitive at times. I am hoping Iannotti will start throwing a little better, but I have to remind myself sometimes that he is a true freshman. Definitely still a long road ahead of us, but we will get there. I appreciate the support and you following along!

Re: A Rising Storm in the North | Cheese's Eastern Michigan Dynasty

Overall good game against a decent team there. As it has been said, your run game was on point - who needs to throw the ball when you can go with 30+ carries.

Looking forward to the Western Michigan game - wonder if Bdawg is paying attention

Thanks Matt! We have definitely been leaning on our running game heavily and will continue to since we have such great senior backs in Welch and Sherrer. Our passing game will get there, it is just not quite there yet.

Haha I am lucky Western doesn't have coach BDawg there or we would be in real trouble. I should have the game up later today.

Year 1 (2011), Game 8, Western Michigan at Eastern Michigan

EMU senior tailback Corey Welch scampers in on a short score / WR Nick Olds hauls in a touchdown pass just before halftime.

Another Rival Down: Eagles Hang on Against Western in the Rain 21-16

Sherrer and Welch lead dominant ground game for second week in a row; Combine for 181 yards and 2 TD | Sherrer suffers turf toe injury in the second half, expected to miss one game | Eastern Michigan heads into their bye week at 5-3 before meeting Ball State in week ten.

AP Ypsilanti – The Eastern Michigan Eagles picked up another win in the conference and in the state as they held on for a 21-16 win against Western Michigan. Both teams struggled to get their offenses going as the rain poured down on Saturday afternoon. Eastern Michigan once again leaned on the legs of HB Dominique Sherrer and HB Corey Welch. The duo put on another great performance rushing for 181 yards and two scores. For Western Michigan, HB Aaron Winchester lead the team with 121 yards and a score on the ground. The majority of his yards came on a 71 yard scamper in the fourth quarter.

Halfback Dominique Sherrer will miss the team's next game as he nurses a turf toe injury.

Sherrer had to be helped from the field in the second half as he suffered a turf toe injury. He is expected to need at least two weeks to rehab the injury, meaning he will most likely miss the team's week ten matchup against Ball State. Welch is expected to get the bulk of the work in his absence and will be spelled by third string HB Joe Fleming.

The Eastern Michigan defense had a solid performance, keeping the Broncos offense in check for the majority of the game. Western Michigan did try to make a comeback, scoring 13 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, but a clock killing drive by the Eagles late would dash any upset hopes.

"Two big wins for us these past two weeks against our in-state rivals. I think we put the rest of the conference on notice that we are a lot better than many assume this season." -- Eagles Head Coach Dan Clayton

Eastern Michigan (5-3) will have a bye week next week before taking on Ball State (0-8) in week ten. The Cardinals are lead by QB Keith Wenning (1325 yards, 9 TD, 6 INT). They have not scored more than 24 points in any game this season but have managed to keep games close, including overtime losses to Temple and Buffalo. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30PM EST.
