Wow Louisiana has some sick athletes. If that's a 'disappointing' class I can't even imagine what a good class looks like

Yeah I have a feeling that we'll be opening things up a bit more now that we have him on board. I was actually worried about the receiver position heading into the season, not anymore. This guy is a bonafide star in the making.

Haha...I guess in hindsight, "disappointing" wasn't the best word to use there. The class is very top heavy for sure. I guess the disappointing thing was that we weren't able to fill all of our roster spots (we're short 7 players), and the class rank of 16 is a step backwards from where we've been. But you're right, we came out of this with some studs!

Green Wave News Clips

Williams

Tulane | Geezy officially names freshman southpaw Williams starting quarterback
Thu, 22 Aug 2019 8:01:49 -0700
Erin Andrews of FoxSports.com reports that Tulane head coach D. Geezy on Thursday indicated to her during a reportedly inappropriate-looking private breakfast between the two of them at New Orleans hotel that redshirt freshman Jimmy Williams, a 4-star quarterback recruit last season from Campbell, California, will be the team's starting quarterback heading into the 2019 season.

Williams, who reportedly ran a 4.46 40 yard dash coming out of high school, is a left-handed quarterback that possesses a cannon for an arm (90thp, 86tha) to go along with his blazing speed (89spd). The 6-3 227 pound QB will be the heir apparent to departed two-time national champion QB Jamie Manning, who left school as a junior months ago to enter the NFL Draft. Geezy indicated that there would be some adjustments to the offense to better fit Williams' style.

"I think certainly anytime you have a quarterback with the type of foot speed J-Dub possesses, you're going to want to try to give him some opportunities to run," said Geezy.

"Whereas Manning was more of your traditional, drop back passer, J-Dub is a guy that can make things happen with his feet while also being a very good passer. I think you'll see us incorporate a few more zone-read concepts into the offense along with more looks in the option game, while at the same time, we still plan to attack vertically as we always have. Another adjustment may be how we ask the quarterback to react to certain defensive pressures and zone dogs and such. With Manning, the 2nd or 3rd hot read may have been a pass to the back in the flat, however with 'J', the 3rd hot read may be to find an open running lane and take off.

"He reminds us a lot of (former Oregon quarterback) Marcus Mariota in regards to his ability to both pass and run. In fact, we spent a lot of time this off-season as a staff studying tape of some of the things Marcus did in his time with the Ducks as well as some Russell Wilson Seahawks tape and Johnny Manziel Texas A&M tape. While we aren't going to change what we do philosophically as far as the pace of the offense, certainly you'll see us do more things than we've done historically to put him in position to make plays running the ball."

Tulane | Team to wear its alternate, all-green uniforms versus LSU
Thu, 22 Aug 2019 8:31:49 -0700
Tammy Nunez of the New Orleans Times Picayune reports that Tulane will wear its all-green uniforms in next week's season-opening rivalry game versus #7 LSU at the Superdome. The team will sport its alternate green helmets, green jerseys, and green pants, and has asked all Green Wave fans in attendance to wear green as well, as the team hopes to "green-out" the Dome for the pivotal, early season SEC matchup.

Re: Coach Geezy in the Big Easy: Our City, Our Team | Part II - The Golden Age of Tul

Thank god you signed that stud receiver Jean & not me. He wouldn't catch many passes in my offense. Now if he were 6 inches shorter & a running back...

Nice to see you're pulling out the all-green unis for LSU. I usually save the "Greenbacks" for Homecoming.
