Re: Kansas Jayhawks Dynasty (NCAA 14)

Kansas Lands Its First Prospect

3-star strong safety Chris Woods, the #32 strong safety in the 2014 recruiting class, has verbally committed to Kansas. This marks Kansas's first signing in the class. Woods hails out of Girard, OH; he plays for the Girard Indians. The 6'2", 185 lb. defensive back was also being pursued by Kentucky, Boston College, Kansas State, and Virginia.

Re: Kansas Jayhawks Dynasty (NCAA 14)

Hopefully you can swing an upset or two here in conference play... it's tough playing in the Big XII when you don't get to pick up that almost-sure win against Kansas!

Heaps seems to be doing alright for you, I remember being disappointed when he didn't come to Washington, but he obviously didn't live up to that prep hype.

Yeah, it's tough. The slider changes I made seemed to have made things more challenging, which is good. However, things should get better after the Oklahoma State game. We'll be playing teams a little bit closer to our overall (77), so we could pick up a win then. As for Heaps, he's not bad, but I have gotten pretty good at playing quarterback since I've been playing this game for two years, so that might be why he's doing well.

Re: Kansas Jayhawks Dynasty (NCAA 14)

No Defense

Kansas loses its fourth game in a row versus under-performing Texas 31-16.

Kansas lost to another struggling team, this time to Texas 31-16 in a game that was not as close as the score indicated.

It was another tough game for the Kansas defense, who allowed 286 yards of passing and 118 yards of rushing to Texas QB Tyrone Swoopes, as well as 47 yards of rushing to running back Johnathan Gray. The Kansas defense has had an all around terrible season, being ranked as one of the worst defenses in the country.

Despite only having 85 yards of rushing, Kansas's rushing game had a pretty decent day. Halfback James Sims ran for 79 yards on 15 carries, and backup Darrian Miller ran for 32 yards on 10 carries. The only bad thing was that quarterback Jake Heaps was sacked 5 times, causing him to have -29 yards of rushing.

Speaking of Jake Heaps, he had a decent game. He threw for 207 yards, a touchdown, and no interceptions, but he was inaccurate, only completing 22 of his 40 passes (a 55% completion percentage). Wide receiver Josh Ford had a particularly good game, catching 6 passes for 62 yards.

The game started out rough for Kansas, and after Texas's first two drives, they were already down 14-0. The Jayhawks managed to get a touchdown, but not until late in the second quarter. Texas would bring their lead back to 14 at the end of the quarter on a short Malcolm Brown TD run (he only had two carries; both were touchdowns),

Texas would score twice more in the third quarter to increase their lead to 31-7 on a field goal and Tyrone Swoopes breakaway carry. This effectively ended the game, but Kansas did not give up, as they scored a touchdown in the middle of the fourth and also got a safety after a drive stalled at the 1 to make it 31-16. But they could not score after that, and Texas ran out the clock.

Kansas has another road trip, this time to Stillwater, to face the #25 Oklahoma State Cowboys (5-3, 2-3) next week, who are on a three-game losing streak.

I love it! The way you describe the games and everything is outstanding. I love the pick of Kansas also. I always considered doing them. I'm going to be starting my dynasty here on OS for the first time! Any tips before I dive right into it?

Thanks for the compliments. I'm not usually one to give tips, but if I had to give one, it would probably be to be original and eventually adopt a "style" that is undoubtedly yours. For example, when I started posting my first dynasty late last year with Boston College, my recaps were somewhat short and I didn't tell the story of the game all that well. But as time went on, I became better at explaining how the game unfolded. I've also added in a few things that I thought of, like the Series Hall of Fame and Greatest Games (this obviously isn't completely original), as well as the at-times witty titles.

Re: Kansas Jayhawks Dynasty (NCAA 14)

Air Battle

Kansas falls below .500 for the first time this year as they lose 49-21 to Oklahoma State.

Last week, Kansas lost to Texas 31-16 in a game that was not as close as the score indicated. But this week, Kansas lost its fifth straight game to 25th-ranked Oklahoma State 49-21 in a game that was closer than the final score showed.

The Cowboys' offense had a great day, with quarterback J.W. Walsh passing for 386 yards, 2 TDs, and 2 picks, while also running for 30 yards in 19 carries, as well as two additional TDs. Running back Jeremy Smith, despite only having 9 carries on the day, ran for 114 yards and a touchdown. "We just couldn't stop them" coach Bradwell said. "Our defense needs to step it up."

Jake Heaps had another inaccurate day, only completing 48 percent of his passes, but he still threw for 268 yards, 2 TDs, and an interception. James Sims had another disappointing day, only rushing for 61 yards on 16 carries.

Oklahoma State rode out to an early 17-0 lead early in the second quarter through a long 45 yard touchdown pass and short run from J.W. Walsh. Kansas, however, would a touchdown midway through the second quarter, and they would go into the half down 17-7.

The third quarter was quiet with the only score being a field goal from Ok State with 2 minutes left in the quarter, but the fourth quarter began with a Kansas touchdown pass from Heaps, his second on the day, to make it a one-score game. The Cowboys would immediately answer back with a touchdown and two-point conversion to take a two-touchdown lead, and Kansas would not score again until there were three minutes, when they ran it in to make it 28-21. The Cowboys would answer again with a touchdown, and after a Jayhawks four-and-out, they would score again while trying to run out the clock thanks to some poor defending from Kansas, who had sent nine on that play. Kansas tried to make it close, but Jake Heaps threw a pick six, and the game finished with a 49-21 Cowboys win.

Next week, it gets a bit easier for Kansas as they return home for the first time in three weeks to face off against fellow Big 12 bottom dweller West Virginia (4-6, 1-6).
