Defend the Rock. Indiana Football

For my first dynasty here on OS, I have decided to go with the Indiana Hoosiers. The Big 10 is a very talented, up-and-coming conference. Many teams like Ohio State, Michigan State, Michigan and Wisconsin are already established as top teams. Minnesota, Northwestern, Maryland and Penn State are on the rise in the NCAA. And then you have teams like Indiana and Purdue who are the low teams on the totem pole. I plan on keeping this dynasty going until the 2015-2016 fall rosters are released. I hope you guys come along with me for the ride! It should be fun!

Please no posting until I say all clear!

The Setup
Game: NCAA Football 14
Console: PS3
Rosters: 2014-2015 OS Community Rosters (RandallB21)
Sliders: MrHurriicane’s Gophers Dynasty Sliders
Recruiting: I can recruit any player who has interest in us.
(Also a note about recruiting, all recruits who commit to us will get their own post.)
Players Declaring: I can’t convince them to come back.
Transfers: We don’t want them if they don’t want us. If anyone transfers to us, I will decide whether or not we take them in.

Disclaimer: All material within this dynasty is fictional. All media from other sites used for entertainment purposes only. Thank you.

Re: Defend the Rock. Indiana Football

Indiana Football History

The program came about in 1887 and was introduced officially by Yale graduate Arthur B. Woodford. Throughout the history of the Indiana program, they have never been a true top team. They have only made 9 total bowl games with a record of 3-6 in them. They never have played in a national championship and only have 2 conference titles which they won in 1945 and 1967. However, only one of those Big 10 titles was won outright by them which was in 1945. In 1967, the Hoosiers ended up tying with Minnesota and Purdue.

There are two coaches that had any type of success at Indiana. They are Bo McMillin and Bill Mallory.

The only coach in Indiana football history with a winning record is Bo McMillin. The main reason he saw success was because of a man named George Taliaferro. Taliaferro was one of the players who led a movement of African-Americans being integrated into sports. Not too much longer, Jackie Robinson suited up in a Dodgers uniform. Taliaferro led the Hoosiers in rushing twice, punting in 1945 and even passing in 1948. McMillin led Indiana to 10 undefeated seasons in 14 total years of coaching them. McMillin has the highest winning percentage out of any Indiana coach at .562 (63-48-11).

Bill Mallory also showed some promise in his time with Indiana. He opened up slow with the Hoosiers by going 0-11 in his first year. A few years later, he and running back Anthony Thompson led Indiana to a bowl game against a star-studded Florida State team. The Hoosiers put up a good fight but lost 27-13 in that game. Mallory again brought them to a bowl game the following year against Tennessee this time, but lost 27-22. Indiana would wind up winning their bowl game the next year over South Carolina 34-10. Anthony Thompson was the main reason for all of this success they had as he ended his career with (a record at the time) 65 touchdowns. He also ran for 5,299 yards in his career and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2007. Thompson’s number 32 was retired by the program as well. In the end, Mallory was fired after 13 seasons, taking Indiana to bowl games in 6 of those. He is Indiana’s winningest coach with 69 wins.

About Coach Sorbera

This is Sorbera’s first time in the spotlight. He was coaching at Aquinas Institute in Rochester, New York when he got the call from Indiana University about coaching there. He didn’t hesitate to say yes. Three days later, he flew out to sign the contract. He led Aquinas to multiple state championships in the recent years and has great potential.

Re: Defend the Rock. Indiana Football

Review of 2013
The Hoosiers didn’t have the greatest year in 2013. Finishing up at 5-7, they got obliterated by teams such as Ohio State and Michigan. They even lost to Navy, which in all honesty I can see why. Navy, Army and Georgia Tech are teams that no one is ready for because of their option offense. Their wins came against some weaker teams. They allowed 5 touchdowns to every team they played besides Bowling Green. The main issue with that is they played Indiana State, an FCS team. That’s embarrassing to say the least. The leading man in 2013 was Tevin Coleman. The sophomore carried for nearly 1000 yards and 12 touchdowns. Nate Sudfeld also had a solid season. He threw for 2523 yards on 194 completions with 21 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. He had a 60% completion rate as well. As mentioned before, the defense struggled mightily which led to their poor season.

Re: Defend the Rock. Indiana Football

Preview to 2014

Offense

We are returning 8 starters on a pretty good offense this year. The main focus is returning juniors Tevin Coleman and Nate Sudfeld. The Hoosiers also return a decent group of receivers which is headlined by senior Shane Wynn. Overall, the offense should be about equal to last years.

Defense and Special Teams

The Hoosiers main weakness last year was on defense. Luckily, though, they are returning 9 starters including outside linebacker David Cooper who was their leading tackler last season. Their second leading tackler in Mark Murphy is also returning. A new kicker is in place as Aaron Del Grosso looks to make good impressions in his first year. Returning punter Erich Toth average 40.6 yards per punt last season.
