A New Era: M16 Raiders Franchise

In a surprising move, Mark Davis, son of Al Davis has decided to sell the Oakland Raiders to financial mogul Robert Star. A native of California, Robert made his money in investment, and is looking to return the Raiders to their former glory. In a somewhat odd mood, Star has declared that he will have a major say in the football operations, despite not having played the sport. This has a lot of faithful worried.

We had a Q&A to start the season, and will have one every four games of the season.

Preseason Q & A

Q: Mr Star, you probably get asked this all the time, but will the Raiders be staying in Oakland this upcoming season?

Star: "I'm not going to make any promises, I know how much the city of Oakland loves the Raiders, but there are other cities that would love a team too. I will not play one more season in this stadium is what I will say, the players and the fans deserve better. We share the field with a baseball team for half the season for goodness sakes. I'll give you a more fulfilling answer when the season gets going."

Q: You said that you're going to heavily involved with the teams football operations, you don't think having any football experience will harm the team?

Star: Well everyone gets their start somewhere. I love football, I grew up a fan, I'm not going to pretend like I know more than the people who have spent their whole lives playing, I just meant when it comes to the draft, free agency and who is coaching the team, my voice will be heard.

Q: You've inherited a young team, that hasn't had success in recent years, who do you think the team should build around?

Star: I think this team has some great pieces. My favorite would have to be Khalil Mack, something about a small school player who has proved al of his doubters wrong really makes me believe in him. I've talked to Jack Del Rio about the possible use of him in a Von Miller type role. I also love the potential that Derek Carr has, I think he could be a great quarterback, he's poised for a breakout year, and he has my full support as the quarterback going forward. Oh and mark my words, Amari Cooper is going to be a stud.

Q: Last question, how do you think the team is going to do this upcoming season?

Star: People are sleeping on this team, obviously I am biased but I believe this team could make the playoffs as a possible wild card. I'm not saying they are going to take it all, but they'll be better than expected.

Raiders run over Rams in first preseason game, win 31-14

The Raiders were firing on all cylinders as they routed the Rams 31-14 in their first preseason game. Derek Carr only got one quarter in, but he made the most of it as he connected with Michael Crabtree for two touchdowns in the first quarter. Crabtree looked great running his routes, and said he feels like his injury never happened. He finished the day with 3 catches for 50 yards and two touchdowns before exiting the game. Eager to make his mark on his first game Amari Cooper caught seven passes for 73 yards, but was hard on himself for not making it into the endzone, with the way he was playing he won't be long with an NFL touchdown.

The running game game started off slow, as Latavius Murray struggled to get going, but one he got in rhythm he was unstoppable. He got a jumpstart after breaking off a 37 yard run in the second quarter. He finished the day with 15 rushes for 90 yards, and looks to be the front runner for the Raiders starting halfback position. Trent Richardson made an appearance today, showing that he still has potential in the second half by rushing 12 times for 60 yards and 1 touchdown. Richardson looked poor in pass protection though, which might keep him from seeing the field.

The starting defense had its up and downs, the first string pass defense was dominant, Nick Foles went 1/6 and was sacked once by Benson Mayowa before the Rams decided to pull him out of the game. The bad thing was once he left, the Raiders struggled to get the quarterback. Rookie linebacker Ben Heeney made an impression leading the team in tackles, and was part of the front seven that held Todd Gurley to a paltry 19 yards.

Cut players:
Taiwan Jones HB
Seth Roberts WR
Kenbrell Tompkins WR
Lee Smith TE
C.J. Wilson RE
Larry Asante SS
Jamarcus Webb LT
Tony Bergstrom LG
Dexter McDonald CB
