Re: Houston Texans Franchise

Houston Texans Defeat San Francisco 49ers in Pre-Season Match Up (24-22)

HOUSTON -- The Texans came up big winning the first Pre-Season game in a close battle, though the Texans maintained control throughout. This was Head Coach Matthew Christians first ever professional football game as head coach of the Texans. In this article we will have a post game interview with the coach and at the bottom is a playlist with all the highlights from the game along with the box score.

Q: How did it feel to win your first ever professional football game?

A: Well in all honestly I dont know that I would count this one, when we start winning in the regular season is when it counts. But overall it did feel nice to win in the pre-season, the guys did a great job tonight.

Q: You guys got off to a slow start in the first quarter, and you are known as a motivator, did you give the guys a speech at the intermission?

A: No, we were just able to get warmed up and get everything going. Besides skirmishes this was the first time a lot of these guys have played a full length game. Also a lot of players were making their first debut in the NFL.

Q: Ryan Mallet started the first half and very clearly gave the best performance out there, will he be starting come the regular season?

A: No decisions have been made yet on any position. Mallet did a really nice job out there but we need that consistently from week to week, we will see if he can step up and take the job. The way it will work is next week Hoyer will be starting for the first half, Mallet and Savage will then each get one quarter. Then in Week 3 Savage will start the first half, Hoyer and Mallet each play one quarter. Then in Week 4 we will make our final decision.

Q: Is there anyone in particular you are more happy with after this game?Anything you and the team can improve on?

A: I was especially happy with our defensive line and backs, we picked up 3 sacks and 3 interceptions so they stepped it up big time. All around everybody did a good job, I would like to improve a bit more in special teams, primarily kick and punt returns but apart from that we were very happy with how it all went down this week.

Position Changes Soon?
HOUSTON -- We have received reports that the Texans are currently trying out players in different positions leading us to believe the Texans may be making some position changes. The two main changes that have been noticed at training camp is OLB Jadeveon Clowney has been lining up on the defensive line and DE Christian Covington has been playing in the DT position. We were unable to get comment from any players or staff on any upcoming changes.

Re: Houston Texans Franchise

Houston Texans Choke in Loss Against Denver (21-17)
HOUSTON -- The Texans suffered a loss today in the pre-season match up against the Denver Broncos. The Texans turned the ball over multiple times and the game ended when QB Ryan Mallet through an interception in the end zone that would have given the Texans the lead with less than 30 seconds remaining. Below is the post game interview with Head Coach Matthew Christian, the box score and highlight playlist.

Q: You guys turned the ball over 3 times today, all interceptions and did not force a single turnover, what changed from last week and how will this be addressed?

A: Well first off I would like to remind everyone that this is a pre-season game, not regular season and the purpose of pre-season is to get the players and teams ready for the regular season, now onto the question. What changed was we had different rotations of players in and played a very skilled opponent. Things obviously need to change has turning the ball over 3 times in a game is never acceptable, especially considering most if not all of the turnovers were done after a long drive down the field. This will be addressed in practice over the coming week.

Q: You guys gave the Broncos a 99 yard touch down near the end of the first quarter, the receiver did not even have anyone covering him and he was wide open the whole way to the house, how did this happen?

A: In all honesty we made a lot of bad play calls tonight, especially on the defensive side of the ball, this will be fixed going into next week.

Q: Final question, any insight on what cuts will be made going into week 3?

A: All roster releases will be made public in an official press statement later this week

Re: Houston Texans Franchise

Texans Position Changes
HOUSTON -- Today Head Coach Matthew Christian of the Houston Texans released the following statement:

There has been a lot of speculation lately that we were changing some players positions and we as a team had no response to this as we wanted to wait until we knew for sure what our plans are. It is true that we may have some position changes coming up. One of the players we were talking about changing their position was Christian Covington who was going to be move to DT we have decided to keep him at backup DE on the right side. Another player is Jadevon Clowney and we have not yet made a decision regarding if we will be switching him to the defensive line, more specifically Left End. One change we are for sure making is we will have Charles James II being our primary kick and punt returned with Keshawn Martin backing him up.

Regarding our QB situation we are getting closer to make a decision but we are not quite there yet. We will have an answer after Week 4 of Pre-Season.

This clears up some of the speculation going around about the Texans roster but the big one, the starting QB position is still out there. At this point it seems clear that Ryan Mallet would be the best choice but we will not know for sure now until Week 4.

Re: Houston Texans Franchise

Houston Texans Come Up in the Clutch to Beat Saints (23-22)
HOUSTON -- In a game that the Saints controlled throughout the Texans were able to come up in the clutch for the last 2 minutes of the game to complete a 60 yard drive that ended in a field goal to take the lead as time ran out. Below is our post game interview with Coach Christian, the box score, and finally the highlights from the game.

Q: You guys played from behind this entire game and were able to come up in the final moments of the game to take the lead how was that?

A: Playing from behind is always stressful and it was certainly close but we were able to drive down the field and Randy was able to put up 3 to take the lead.

Q: There were some extremely questionable calls especially in regards of PAT's, one was returned for a Pick 6 and gave the other team 2 points, why did you guys continue to go for 2 and never even kicked a PAT?

A: Well this is the pre-season and myself and the rest of the coaching staff agree a great way to put the guys under pressure on the field and see how they perform is to go for it on 4th and go for 2 point conversions. We wont go for 4th down or 2 point conversions nearly as much in the regular season but it will be nice to know if we need to convert on one we will have the experience and know who can perform under pressure.

Q: Looking at the box score the Tight End's got a lot more touches compared to the receivers, is there a reason for this, is this a strategy?

A: I mean, im not throwing the ball out there but not it is not a strategy. The strategy is throwing to who is open and that was the tight end's today.

Q: Next week is the game against the Cowboys, the Governor's Bowl. Any added pressure to win? Will you be playing starters more?

A: While it is a important game in terms of history, as far as the season goes it doesn't matter. Starters will get more play time but not because of who the other team is but because I want the new starters going into the new season get playing time with the veteran starters.
