Re: From the Bottom to the Best | A Georgia State Dynasty
The Comeback Kids... Almost
This was one of the biggest emotional roller coaster type games I have witnessed.
New Mexico State opened up the game quickly and easily handling the Panther offense by forcing a 3-and-out. Led by HB Tyler Rose III, the Aggies would score in one minute. Another 3-and-out for Georgia State led to another score on a throw from Tyler Rogers to Andrew Allen. How about one more 3-and-out for ya? Georgia State could get nothing going offensively whatsoever. This time though, the first play the Aggies had, Rogers threw into double coverage and it was picked by Bruce Dukes, giving the Panthers excellent field position.
What did we do with that field position? Kicked a field goal. Seems common with this team, and after this game, it seemed even more common.
NM State got the ball back with 1:36 left in the first and scored once more on a Rogers scramble. That seemed like an early dagger as they entered the second with a 21-3 lead.
Slowly but surely, though, Georgia State started to build momentum, first with a drive that lasted 4 minutes and they kicked a field goal off of. The Aggies did respond however with a 2:16 drive and scored again on a short run. The Panthers would drive down the field once more only to be stopped 2 yards short of the endzone. Again, Will Lutz booted home the field goal, putting Georgia State down 28-9 at half.
Much more of the same continued post halftime except that New Mexico State was the team unable to preform on offense. A 3-and-out opening for them, Georgia State capitalized… with another field goal. Better yet, the Aggies got the ball back and were stuffed again. I bet you can guess what Georgia State did on the ensuing possession. That led to the end of the 3rd and the score, 28-15.
New Mexico State opened the quarter with the ball and after a few short runs by Hall and an incomplete pass, Georgia State got the ball back. Keep in mind, the time they got the ball was with 8:10 left in the game. The most methodical drive had begun. Hand offs to Kendrick Dorn opened up the drive, then a strike to Robert Davis. More handoffs to Marcus Caffey led to a 9 yard strike to Joel Ruiz. Then there was a point of 5 straight runs before Nick Arbuckle dropped back. He got sacked nearly immediately.
More runs and more runs and more runs. Kendrick Dorn punched in the score, but the clock read 2:31. Georgia State ran a 17 play, nearly 6 minute drive, and may just have ruined their chances of getting the ball back.
That wasn’t the case, though. The Panthers halted another 3 plays for New Mexico State and received the ball with 1:44 left. This drive was the first in the game that Arbuckle showed consistency in his throwing as he slung it around the field to almost every receiver on the playing roster. A sideline catch by Joel Ruiz set them up at the 20 with :42 left. Arbuckle hit Kendrick Dorn for 7 but immediately rushed to the line and ran the same exact play. This time it was a huge sack. Following a 2 yard catch, the Panthers rushed back to the line again. Arbuckle had an open man but overthrew him. Game over.
It seems as though we play to our competition but next up we travel to Tuscaloosa. See you then...
Arbuckle getting crushed, he took a ton of hits.
Ruiz's catch that brought us so close to victory.

Re: From the Bottom to the Best | A Georgia State Dynasty
(Here is my new way of recapping games. It is simple and covers the important things throughout. Hope you guys enjoy!)
The Tide Rolls
1st Quarter: Georgia State opened up the game quickly driving to the redzone after two huge throws to TE’s Joel Ruiz and Keith Rucker. Alabama’s defense stuffed them afterwards, forcing a field goal. WR ArDarius Stewart responded to Georgia State’s big plays with two of his own, gaining 42 yards. Derrick Henry rushed in a 1 yard score. Alabama’s defense continued rolling, forcing a quick 3-and-out. The Panthers did the same thanks to a sack by Tarris Batiste. After another stop, Alabama QB Jake Coker hooked up with ArDarius Stewart for another big play and again, Derrick Henry capitalized, scoring from 8 yards out.
2nd Quarter: Opening the quarter with the ball after a quick Panther 3-and-out, Alabama drove down the field with great ease, slinging the ball all over the field and capping the drive with a 10 yard strike to Kenyan Drake. Much to the surprise of the fans in Bryant-Denny, the Panthers got another first down, but on their next set of downs did nothing. However, Alabama on the first play of their ensuing possession through a screen pass. Bruce Dukes read the play and picked off Coker and returned it to the house. A Coker 24 run revitalized the Tides’ momentum as again, they drove down the field with ease and were stuffed at the goal line. The booted home the easy field goal and the clock hit zero.
Halftime Score: Alabama 24, Georgia State 10
3rd Quarter: Boy, this ArDarius Stewart kid is something. The Tide got the ball to open and after stops by Georgia State on 1st and 2nd, Coker loaded up and hit the sophomore for a 62 yard gain. Of course, they scored once more on a run by Dakota Bell. The common offensive theme for Georgia State continued, punting. Finally though, Georgia State stopped Alabama from scoring! It didn’t change the offensive momentum however, as yet again, Brandon Wright punted the ball away. Georgia State again turned the Tide over, this time on a pick by OLB Trey Payne. After a holding call on Kendrick Dorn negated a huge gain by Donovan Harden, Alabama forced another punt. A 3rd down sideline catch by TE O.J. Howard brought the Crimson Tide into easy field goal range and they booted it through with 2 seconds left. In that two seconds, the return team finally did something good, as Donovan Harden returned the kickoff 56 yards giving the Panthers great field position.
4th Quarter: Converting on 2 3rd downs off of the kick return, it led to nothing. Marlon Humphrey halted the drive in the endzone with an interception. Kenyan Drake, after getting stuffed multiple times, busted off a 45 yard gash thanks to some phenomenal blocking. Derrick Henry punched in his 3rd score of the day to end any Panther hope. The hope diminished even more after Alabama sacked Nick Arbuckle 2 times in a row to force another 3-and-out. Alabama would run out the clock and take home the W.
Final Score: Alabama 41, Georgia State 10
Next Up: at Troy(October 17th)
ArDarius Stewart getting the step on Robert Dowling en route to a 62 yard gain.
Derrick Henry weaving through the defense for a score.
