Re: The Coaching Career of Danny Carmichael (NCAA 14)
I look forward to this. Starting as a non-Power 5 coordinator is definitely the way I prefer to do it, as it allows for so much growth.

Re: The Coaching Career of Danny Carmichael (NCAA 14)
Week 1: New Mexico State vs. #15 Texas Well, this is not how anyone believed this game would go. New Mexico State more than held their own, on the road, vs. a nationally ranked team. That's not something we're used to writing. The Aggies actually out gained the Longhorns in passing yards, rushing yards, and total yards. Granted, those totals were very close, it still speaks volumes the Aggies were able to achieve this feat. The Longhorns were sparked in the 2nd Quarter by the Aggies lack of being able to convert in the redzone. First it was a missed field goal, then Aggie running back Germi Morrison was straight up stuffed at the line of scrimmage on a 4th and 1 attempt. Both of those Longhorns stops resulted in TD's. Texas QB David Ash played a very efficient game as he threw for 314 yards on 23/32 passing... And what is either extremely good for the Aggies, or frightening for the Longhorns, New Mexico State QB TraVaughn Colwell pretty much matched those totals vs. 2 future NFL Cornerbacks. Colwell did a masterful job of managing the Aggies offense as he threw for 317 yards on 22/32 passing and escaped many, many sacks thanks to his mobility. If Colwell can play like this for the rest of the year, he will put the Aggies in a position to get their first winning season since 2002. Another positive to take from this loss for the Aggies is the fact that HB Germi Morrison was able to run for 113 yards on this good Texas front 7. Morrison also averaged 5.1 yards per carry which shows the improvement on the offensive line and at the running back position. Scoring Summary New Mexico State got on the scoreboard first as Colwell threw an absolute PERFECT pass to Freshman WR Prentavious Morehead on the post route over the middle of the field. Texas responded on their next drive with a 44 yard Field Goal. But, at the end of the first quarter, the Aggies held the lead. And on the first play of the 2nd Quarter, they would score again. This time Colwell hit HB Germi Morrison out of the backfield on a wheel route and he was wide open. And by wide open, I mean there wasn't anyone within 15 yards of him (which I was stunned to see since that RARELY happens when playing on Heisman). Colwell threw a bullet to Morrison about 20 yards up the field, and Morrison barely outran the Longhorns secondary to the endzone for the 58 yard TD score. But, that would be it for the Aggies as the Longhorns scored on 3 consecutive possessions to end the half. So, going into halftime, Texas finally had regained a slightly comfortable 24-14 lead. The Longhorns scored on their first possession of the 2nd half as David Ash hit Montrel Meander on a 33 yard TD pass. New Mexico State responded with their only score of the 2nd half as Germi Morrison took the HB swing into the endzone from 1 yard out after being stuffed on 2 consecutive plays at the goal line. The final scoring play of the game was a 43 yard FG for the Longhorns as they escaped a first half scare from the Aggies and won 34-21.

Re: The Coaching Career of Danny Carmichael (NCAA 14)
Week 2: Minnesota vs. New Mexico State Preview Coach Carmichael Media Session Coach Carmichael: Before I talk about the upcoming Minnesota game, I'd like to touch on the Texas game real fast. First of all, congrats to Texas, those guys played a heck of a game. Also, I thought our guys played extremely well too. The offense did all we could have asked for as they put us in a position to win, but we just couldn't finish drives. Some of that was my fault on the playing calling aspect of things. I was a bit too aggressive when we tried to go for it on 4th and 1 instead of kicking the easy field goal. But again, overall I thought we played hard and really gave Texas a run for their money which gets me excited because they're the toughest team we'll face all year. Alright, so we have the game vs. Minnesota coming up and this should be a good game. Both teams are coming off a loss in their first game of the season, us the 34-21 loss to Texas obviously and Minnesota lost 14-10 to UNLV at home. So, both teams will come in with extra motivation to get that first win of the season. On offense though, we're going to have to be careful because they have a future NFL draft pick at DT with Rashede Hageman (88 overall). That kid is an absolute beast, so we're figuring out ways to try and take him out of the game because that will be the key for us. We feel pretty confident that we can attack them through the air, but on the ground may be another story. Anyway, this should be a good game, I'm looking forward to it. And at this time, I'll take any questions you may have. Reporter #1: Do you think TraVaughn Colwell can follow up his performance vs. Texas in this upcoming game? Carmichael: Oh definitely. That kid's confidence is through the roof right now, and for good reason. I know he can play that well week in and week out, and if he does, he's going to be in for a record breaking season here. I look forward to seeing him improve over the rest of the season. Reporter #2: Your offensive line struggled at time vs. Texas. Will there be any quicker passes be put into the gameplan like screens, slants, etc? Carmichael: Well, that's what we did vs. Texas. We threw lots of slants and quick out passes and it worked well for us. Our Wide Receivers did a fantastic job of getting open and TraVaughn did a great job of distributing the ball. However, I hate just about all WR Screen passes. The only ones you'll ever see us run are WR Mid Screens and Bubble Screens and Bubble Screens will only be run if we have other Receivers doing other routes. Reporter #3: You pointed to the endzone when Germi Morrison was running past you on that long TD catch. What was going through your head then? Carmichael: I was thinking about how great of a QB TraVaughn is, and how skilled of a HB that Germi is. The catch he made was not easy since TraVaughn put it a little bit behind him. But, when I saw how absolutely wide open Germi was, I knew it was gonna be a TD. But, to be honest, we tell TraVaughn not to look at Germi on that play. He's like the last resort, so to speak. The receiver we really run the play for is Austin Franklin, but I mean, we scored, I'm not complaining. *Laughs* Minnesota Scouting Report
Players To Watch For DT-Rashede Hageman-88 Overall- Hageman is one of the best Defensive Tackles in the country. He is crazy athletic for being 6'6" 311 lbs. Will affect this game. HB-Donnell Kirkwood Jr-83 Overall- At 5'10" 223 lbs. he's not a speedy runner, but he's probably the most powerful running back our defense will face all year. SS-Brock Vereen-82 Overall- He had a great game vs. UNLV and looks to build off that performance. He's not the fastest Safety, but he won't miss many tackle once he gets his hands on you. Solid player. CB's Jeremy Baltazar and Martez Shabazz- 81 and 79 overall- These two guys are Senior CB's. So, they're very experienced and will more than likely do a great job in coverage as both are Coverage "player types". Matchup Preview

Watch out for Minnesota! They handed me my first loss this season in my dynasty, and they have a losing record and horrible stats.

Re: The Coaching Career of Danny Carmichael (NCAA 14)
Week 2: Minnesota vs. New Mexico State Las Cruces, NM -- Well, this was easily the most surprising game of the week as the New Mexico State Aggies defeat the Minnesota Golden Gophers 33-12 in the Aggies home opener. This is New Mexico State's first win vs. a Power 5 Conference Opponent since 2011 when they went on the road to (guess who) Minnesota and beat them 28-21. But, this is the Aggies' first home win vs. a Power 5 Conference Opponent in the 21st Century. The key to this game was definitely the Aggies defense. I don't think anyone, not even New Mexico State coaches saw this performance coming. They forced 3 turnovers and blocked a punt during this game. Two of the turnovers happened in the 1st Quarter, both on their side of the 50 yard line, which gave the Aggies great field position, and that's how they jumped out to a huge lead. For the 2nd straight week, Aggie QB TraVaughn Colwell did a fantastic job managing the offense. Especially in the 2nd half when they went full on conservative trying to run the clock out so it eliminated a chance for a Minnesota comeback. Colwell accounted for 3 Touchdowns on the day (2 throwing, 1 running). But, Junior WR Austin Franklin showed that he is one of the most explosive players in the country as he ended with 155 All Purpose yards and 2 Touchdowns (1 Receiving and 1 Punt Return). The Aggie defense was also virtually unstoppable. They had 7 Tackle for loss, 3 Sacks, and 2 Interceptions in which was a very surprising performance. After this performance, New Mexico State Defensive Coordinator David Elson really needs a contract extension! The Golden Gophers seem to be in trouble this year as they couldn't move the ball well at all vs. this Aggie defense. QB Phillip Nelson did not have a good game at all, as his stat line was: 19/42, 241 yards, 0 TD's, 2 INT's. The Gophers also couldn't get anything going on the ground as they could only muster 76 total yards rushing. Somehow, the Aggies made Minnesota star Defensive Tackle Rashede Hageman a non factor as he only made 2 Tackles on the day. Scoring Summary Thanks to an Interception and a 17 yard return, New Mexico State Senior CB Darian Johnson set up the offense with excellent field position. And about a minute later they scored on a 16 yard pass from TraVaughn Colwell to Austin Franklin. Franklin ran a fantastic post route and made the catch as he created quite a bit separation between him and the Minnesota CB covering him. Later, in the 1st Quarter, MLB Anthony Joyner forced a fumble and recovered it deep in Minnesota territory after a punt. 5 plays later the Aggies capitalized on a 2 yard Read Option keeper by TraVaughn Colwell. On the ensuing Minnesota possession, they went 3 and out, punted the ball away, and Aggie WR Austin Frankin returned the punt 67 yards for the TD. But, the extra point attempt was missed so at the end of the 1st Quarter, New Mexico State led 20-0. Minnesota finally got on the board with a 32 yard FG early in the 2nd Quarter. But, New Mexico State answered with a 40 yard TD pass as TraVaughn Colwell escaped the sack attempt by Rashede Hageman. Colwell rolled to his right, got his feet set and threw a bomb to WR Joseph Matthews who made a spectacular diving catch in the end zone for the TD. And to end the half New Mexico State and Minnesota traded field goals. So, going into halftime the score was 30-6 New Mexico State in a shocking blow out. The 2nd half had virtually no scoring. Minnesota's only score was a 1 yard run right up the middle and they failed to convert on the 2 point try. New Mexico State would answer in the 4th Quarter with a 43 yard FG. So, the final score was 33-12 in a shocking upset in New Mexico.
