Re: The Coaching Career of Danny Carmichael (NCAA 14)

Just so everyone knows, in case you didn't already... I'm just the Offensive Coordinator. So I had no control over the defense in that game vs. Minnesota, which is definitely why they only put up 12 points. Cause if it was me playing, they would've quadrupled that total lol.

Thanks man! I really appreciate it! I hope it doesn't disappoint! I'm really trying to put a lot of detail into this one... More so than any of my other dynasties I've done.

Re: The Coaching Career of Danny Carmichael (NCAA 14)

Week 3: UTEP vs. New Mexico State Preview

Coach Carmichael Media Session

Coach Carmichael: Hey guys, how is everyone today? First of all, congrats to Anthony Joyner for being named Independents Defensive Conference Player of the Week. He had a great game and he really deserved it. And that's a special honor considering the storied football programs who consider themselves Independents and all the great players who play for those institutions. But, I'm still jacked about that game Saturday. Man, what a game! Everyone played fantastic! And we need to give David Elson (Defensive Coordinator) a contract extension. He called one heck of a game Saturday. Just an all around fantastic game.

Sorry to go into all of that, I'm just excited for our guys man, I really am. It just goes to show the type of team we're trying to develop here and it shows how much they've progressed.

Anyway, now there's a task at hand. That is trying to get our guys focused for this UTEP game. It'll be easy to go into this game thinking that we'll wipe the floor with them just because of the game last week, but that's never the case. Nothing is ever a given in College Football. But, UTEP has a solid core of offensive skill players, and I'm glad I don't have to deal with them *Reporters chuckle*. On defense, there isn't a big star like Hageman last week, they've just got a lot of solid all around players. Like I said, we just need to come into this game prepared and be ready for a dog fight cause UTEP is gonna make this a good game. So, now I'll take any questions you may have.

Reporter #1: Going into last Saturday Minnesota had the #14 defense in the country. What do you think that says about what you can accomplish the rest of the season?

Coach Carmichael: I think it says a lot. We played a hard fought game at Texas and then we beat a Power 5 Conference school. I think it says that we're trending upward and I hope people are taking notice. Our goal this year is a bowl game. We're hoping to send our Seniors out by getting to one, but it's not gonna be an easy task. I know we have the talent to do it though.

Reporter #2: Freshman Prentavious Morehead broke his collarbone vs. Texas and will be out until Week 8 or 9. Do you think they may have limited you this past week, especially in the 2nd half depth wise?

Coach Carmichael: I think we've got a solid group of guys at Receiver, so I don't think it really hurt us depth wise. Our plan was to try and run the clock out and not get anyone injured during the 2nd half since we had such a big lead. But, Prentavious his a great Wide Receiver who has a ton of potential, so his production will be greatly missed. Can't wait till he comes back though. That kid has worked so hard since he's been on campus. It was a really unfortunate injury.

Reporter #3: The offensive line looked like they played a lot better Saturday. What were your thoughts on how they played?

Coach Carmichael: They definitely did play better. Without their performance who knows if we could have pulled off the win. I'm proud of those guys but we've still got some work to do because you can always improve some aspect of your game.

Players To Watch For

QB-Jameill Showers-82 Overall- Showers is a Scrambling QB so it will be interesting to see if our defense can let him do minimum damage on the ground.

WR-Jordan Leslie-82 Overall-At 6'2" 210 lbs. he is a fast, physical receiver who may give our CB's nightmares.

HB-Nathan Jeffrey-80 Overall-He's playing really good football right now. He's not really fast, but he is a pretty powerful runner.

Game Notes
These two teams are pretty even. It'll be interesting to see if UTEP's secondary is really as good as the stats suggest they are (#1 in the country in average passing yards allowed). Another factor will be if New Mexico State is overlooking this game since they beat Minnesota with some ease last weekend. ESPN predicts UTEP will win.

Folowing, starting out at a small school is the best.

Your defense is a lot like mine (I know you're not controlling it) in terms of being very highly ranked for rushing and very poorly ranked against the pass. Wonder why that is.

Thanks! And I agree! It provides the most satisfaction when you build the school up to a Conference Champion type team and also when you can get hired by a Power 5 Conference School once they see the results of your team.

It's really weird honestly. Our Defensive line is very weak depth wise, yet from an overall standpoint, our Secondary should be our strongest link. I feel like the stats should be the other way around. But, I'm just glad we're winning games lol!
