MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota-- New coach, new life. The Golden Gophers brought in a coach by the name of Storm Jackson. Besides being a high school coach for 10 years, this is his first coaching job at the college level. Storm Jackson won 6 state championships in his 10 years of coaching. He comes in with intentions of bringing the Golden Gophers to a national championship.
The Golden Gophers finished the 2012 season with a 6-6 record and losing in their bowl game to Texas Tech 34-31. They lacked a strong offense in the previous season and they hope to change that in 2013. Without further ado lets head into this season preview

The Golden Gophers came in with a B rated strength of schedule. The tough opponents come from the conference, like Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and so on. It is key that they win games early and continue to win through the season. They went 2-6 in the conference last year, beating Purdue and Illinois, two teams they do not play this season. The Golden Gophers will have to prove a lot with such a tough schedule.

Starting quarterback Mitch Leidner will obviously has high Expectations as Golden Gopher fans look for a winning season. The red-shirt junior is one of the best quarterbacks to ever play at the University of Minnesota both passing and rushing wise. But Leidner isn't the talk of the town on this offense, Rodney Smith is. The Freshman running back looks promising as the golden gophers come into the season with a rushing identity. Offensively the team still looks weak, but better than last year. a not so good receiving core, a not so experienced quarterback, and an unproven freshman running back this team has a lot to prove. Defensively the team looks strong, with a solid defensive line, a great secondary, and a fast linebacker core the Gophers look like they will win games defensively and not offensively. Also having one of the best kickers in Santoso, that will help the team wins games.
The Prediction: I expect a 7-5 record out of the Golden Gophers this season. Without a doubt 6-6 at least. Possibly 8-4, but we are just going to have to see what Storm Jackson has planned for this team.
