Jay Walker:I'm here catching up with Coach Roman before he gets into his first off season at Grambling. Coach we just saw a list of players leaving all of them Seniors any last words for them?

Coach Roman: I just want to thank them for all their hard work and being some great leaders. I hope they continue to be great young man now that their playing days are over.

Jay: All 17 of them have graduated and you have no one transferring out of the program. How will this help you build on next season?

Coach Roman: It does help that no one is leaving. We can go into workouts and Spring Ball as a family focused on getting better.

Jay: How did you use your Budget Points to set up your program for next season?

Coach Roman:We put 35% towards Recruiting and Discipline with the last 30% going towards Training. We chose to do this to hopefully help us land the players we want and need during the off season while focusing on cutting down on some of the Discipline issues we had last season.

Jay: What are you focus areas for recruiting this off season?

Coach Roman: We want to make sure that we fill any holes that we have while also getting guys to help us get to the next level in our program.

Jay: What do you mean when you say next level?

Coach Roman: Young men who have quality character and that can help us win the Division. Maybe the Conference Title and a Bowl game. First thing is first is getting young men to help us get a Division crown.

Jay: One last question coach. Do you plan to go outside the state of Louisiana much to get your guys?

Coach Roman: Grambling has always recruited Louisiana first that will not change. We will also continue to visit our neighboring states of TX, AR, MS to see who would like to be a Tiger. With the state of Texas already being a pipeline that is one will always try to hold on to.

Jay:Thanks coach and good luck on the recruiting trail.

National Signing Day 2007

Rece Davis:Welcome to this years edition of Signing Day. I'm your host Rece Davis and I will be joined by Tom Luginbill our National Recruiting Director. Tom let's take a look at the top 5 classes.
Top Recruiting Classes - 2007
RKTEAM54321TOTAL
1Notre Dame21480024
2Texas48102024
3Auburn38112125
4Ohio State4791223
5Michigan State29112125

Tom:Rece as you can see programs that made a lot of noise last year and were in the running all to make a National Championship run have kept the moment going.

Rece:Tom what sticks out here to me is Texas and Auburn. Two teams that did not win their conference or Division last year have stocked the rosters very nicely.

Tom:With the talent that comes out the state of Texas it is never hard for the Longhorns to get talent for them it's about the talent producing on the field. For Auburn they have a great class coming in but the question will remain can they compete with Alabama and LSU in the Western Division of the SEC.

Rece: Let's show the OS followers where the TOP5 recruits signed to play their college ball.
  1. 5* DE Chris McConnell- Notre Dame
  2. 5* C Brandon Hagen- West Virginia
  3. 4* CB Jarvis Browning- Florida
  4. 5* QB Brad Martin- Michigan State
  5. 5* MLB Casey McPherson- Virginia Tech

Tom:Each of these players are not only the best in the country but the kind of players you keep building your program around.

Rece:With this being a Grambling Dynasty will also show where the TOP5 players from the state of Louisiana sign every year.
  1. ATH Antonio Waston- Did not sign
  2. TE Chris Bennett- Did not sign
  3. T Kevin Turner- Georgia
  4. FS Josh Allen- Ole Miss
  5. ATH Jason Page- Georgia

Tom: It's rare that you see the top two players from a state not sign with a team. Then again this is NCAA 2007 where anything can happen. What surprised me with these guys is that none of the signed with LSU.

Rece:Let's take a look at how the MAC schools finished up in recruiting.
Top Recruiting Classes - 2007
RKTEAM54321TOTAL
1Florida A&M(45)02213017
2Bethune-Cookman(46)0239418

10Hampton(110)0026715
11Jackson State(112)0009716
12Howard(113)0103913

Tom:Rece you can see the two Florida schools using that talent rich state to their advantage by bringing in TOP50 classes. Coach Roman was not bad either at Grambling as he has the highest ranked class in the MAC West. This conference should be one to keep an eye on in 2007 not only in out of conference play but conference play as this teams talent wise have each improved.

Rece:Tom I want to thank you for joining me today as was discussed how signing day 2007 unfolded. Be sure to stay tuned for Jay Walker as he sits down with Coach Roman to discuss the off season at Grambling State.

Jay:Coach you and your staff were able to 16 young men to sign with Grambling. What was your plan when you went out on the recruiting trail?

Coach Roman:The plan was set it place when we were first hired here. Go out and get the best players in Louisiana and Texas that we can. We would like to get to a point where we don't have to recruit guys with Poor Discipline. We only have a couple of those in this class. We added 3 walk-on players: SS Ryan Mann, RB Emmanuel Jefferson and MLB Ryan Cwik.

Jay: You have some talented young men who could see the field day 1 either by need or because they are just better than those already here.

Coach Roman:We don't like to think of it as guys who are better than those who are already here. This is a family and as a family we will stick together. The best will play but we still have our 2nd and 3rd string guys working hard everyday because you never know when they will be needed.

Jay:I can understand that coach. You have the #63 rated class is that better than you thought you would have?

Coach Roman:It's ok we wanted to have the best class in the MAC, but as you know it's more than just rankings. You have to guys that can play together. You could have the number 1 ranked class and still never win a Conference Championship or National Title. It's all about chemistry.

Jay:How did the Spring Game turn out for the Tigers?

Coach Roman:The spring game was just what the kids wanted a chance to get back on the field and show they had improved. Here are a couple stats from that game

Spring Game:
Brandon Landers 6-13, 118yds, INT, rush TD
Desmond Brantley 9-21, 137yds, 2INT
Landry Carter 6car, 30yds
Clyde Edwards 3rec, 71yds
James Richardson 2rec, 40yds
Donald Alexander 1rec, 7yds
Lewis Carter 2tkls
Josh Bester 2tkls, 2INT

LOLB Cedric Harris came out our Most Improved Player gaining +8 and is now a 56 Ovr, Kicker Brian Morgan was not far behind him +6 now a 65 Ovr, then we had 11 players that gained +4

Jay:Sounds like those young men all wanted to improve on what they were able to do last year. Who came out of camp named Impact Players going into the season?

Coach Roman: On the Offense Brandon Landers kept his from last season and on Defense for all of his hard work we rewarded Cedric Harris.

Jay:Thanks for the recap of the Grambling Off-Season Coach Roman. We will be sure to check back in with you before your Tigers kickoff the 2007 season.

Re: Welcome to Tiger Land A Grambling State Football Dynasty(NCAA 07 PS2)

Jay Walker here with Coach Roman as the Tigers have just finished fall camp and are getting ready to kickoff their season.

Jay:Coach you are getting ready for your second season as the head man here at Grambling. What are some team goals you have?

Coach Roman:First goal we've had since the end of last season is to get better every play. After finishing 2nd in the Division last season our guys want to take the next step and win the Division this year.

Jay:Speaking of winning the Division Grambling is picked to finish 2nd behind Alabama A&M is that extra motivation for your guys?

Coach Roman:I don't really think so. I think the way we ended last season and seeing how close we were is motivation enough. Alabama A&M is the reigning Conference Champion so until someone beats them they are the best in the conference.

Jay:Fan attendance last year topped off at 5,140 at Eddie Robinson Stadium. It has a capacity of 19,600 do you hope to fill more seats this year?

Coach Roman:That is always your goal as a Head Coach is to pack the stadium each and every Saturday. That's what make the difference in games is a rowdy home crowd to give your guys that Home Field Advantage. I also understand that seats are filled by the product you put out. Last year was a rough transition year and it took our fan base some getting use to.

Jay:You and your staff did great on the recruiting trail. Are their any True Freshman that will start for your team?

Coach Roman:As I've said before we are to put the best on the field. We have a total of 11 true freshman that will start for us. They are: WR Brandon Casey, TE Andrew Bell, LT Lance Holmes, RT Ed McGee, RG Jack Conley, LE Garin Joseph, RE Will Mitchell, ROLB Will Hill, MLB Clifford Boyd, CB Kenny Harris and SS William Buckley.

Jay:That's 11 of your 16 freshman that will start. Are the other 5 guys going to Redshirt?

Coach Roman:None of them will Redshirt. They will all get some kind of playing time. Weather it is in certain packages or on special teams.

Jay:With this new team what is a difference you have noticed from last year?

Coach Roman:The biggest thing is speed. We have Casey and Huff at WR who can fly if they get into space. On Defense all of the young guys brought that element to a group that lacked it last season.

Jay:You are returning QB Brandon Landers with these weapons around him do you plan on opening up the offense more this season?

Coach Roman:That is something that we have talked about. We would still love to run the ball but if getting the ball out wide is what works better for us that is what we will do.

Jay:One last question coach. What are you key areas that you will try to fill this year during In-Season Recruiting?

Coach Roman:W will try to build more on the Defense and hopefully bring in a RB. We will see were we sit with a couple targets after week one to see who we will go after.

Jay:Thanks for your time coach and good luck to you and your Tigers.

Coach Roman:Anytime Jay. See you in a couple weeks

Re: Welcome to Tiger Land A Grambling State Football Dynasty(NCAA 07 PS2)

Chris Fowler:Welcome to the first College GameDay of the 2007 season. We are here live in Berkeley, California for today's big match up of #11 Tennessee and #1 Cal.

Kirk:Chris let's look at some other games that will highlight the first weekend of action.

Baylor @ TCU
Georgia Tech @ #16 Notre Dame
#20 Ole Miss @ UNC
UCF @ #15 Florida
#14 Louisville @ Kentucky

Chris:Kirk, those games can be a good start for some and for the ranked teams if the lose early they will need to regroup in a hurry.

Kirk:Let's turn it over to Lee for his picks in these games.

Lee:First thing is my Buckeye friend TCU over Baylor in a close one.

Tech will keep it close early but those little Irish men we be too much at home. I'm taking Notre Dame

Ole Miss goes into ACC country and walks out victorious.

UCF has a great running back but he won't be able to get it done by himself. Florida gives the Swamp something to cheer about

The Governors Cup will not belong to the men in blue. Louisville takes down their rival

Tennessee has been licking their chops since the schedules were announced but my little bear friend tells me last season was not a fluke. I'm taking the Bears
