Re: Saturdays... (NCAA 14)
2015 MIAMI REDHAWKS SCHEDULE & RESULTS
Treadwell's potential game changing touchdown in the fourth quarter DOWNWARD SPIRAL
Although they had a distant opportunity to win this Saturday, the RedHawks fell to the #15 Wisconsin Badgers 28-16 after failing to convert on a two-point conversion that would’ve put the game in just a field goal deficit with a good chunk of time remaining.
“It was tough to see him drop the pass,” Coach Martin said. “We put up a fight but came up just short. I’m proud of the guys to say the least, Wisconsin has always been a great team, tonight was no different.”
For the second straight week, the fourth quarter was jam-packed with action that decided the game. Entering the period down 21-10, Spencer Treadwell wasted little to no time as he brought the team back with his long of the night, a 26 yard rushing touchdown.
The RedHawks would then line up for the 2-point conversion which saw quarterback Austin Gearing breaking out of a sack to find sophomore receiver Sam Martin wide open cutting in only for him to drop the essential pass that would’ve had the game knotted at 21-18.
Wisconsin erased all thoughts of a comeback for the RedHawks the very next possession when wide receiver Alex Erickson took the ball the length of the field for a 99 yard kickoff return to ice the game.
Along with his return, Alex Erickson was named the player of the game with 174 all-purpose yards after finishing with four grabs in the air for 75 yards and a touchdown. Erickson was just one of the three receivers who quarterback Joel Stave connected with for a touchdown. Stave finished 13-21 for 226 yards and the three touchdowns.
Corey Clement added to the ground game with 119 yards on 29 carries.
For Miami, Spencer Treadwell was the go-to man despite struggling scarcely throughout the first half. Following his injury ridden game in week one, the halfback finished with 122 yards on 24 carries and a touchdown. Austin Gearing started his first career game for Miami and threw for 222 passing yards and a lone 34 yard touchdown pass to Rokeem Williams in the third quarter.

It was however the offensive line that doomed the game for both Gearing and the Miami offense as a whole. Overall they allowed their quarterback to be sacked a total of seven times on the night, four by a single defender, Jake Keefer – Gearing was able to last only until the fourth before complaining about back spasms after he took his final hit of the night.
Fatigued, he talked to media following the game, “Wisconsin is good and all, sure, but that was a bunch of bull. I had about one second to throw the ball every play before getting ambushed by at least five lineman. We've got to step it up.”
Defensive tackle Mitchell Winters was a bright spot for the RedHawk’s defense as he finished with eight tackles with three coming for a loss. Defensive end Bryson Albright added the only sack of the night and safety Kendrell McFadden was able to come up with a fumble recovery in the second quarter.
Miami will look to recover from this loss as they’ll take advantage of their upcoming bye week before returning to the Yager Stadium to host Cincinnati in not only their homecoming, but also the iconic NCAA rivalry, the battle for the Victory Bell.
