Browns select Texas WR Morris Armstrong in second round

Armstrong caught 52 passes for 1077 yards (20.7 avg) for 10 tocuchdowns as a junior at Texas, along with 2 rushing touchdowns

________________________________

BEREA, OHIO --- Morris Armstrong caught 52 passes last year, with ONLY a 20.7 yard average catch for the Longhorns last season. The 5'10" burner from Dallas put his speed on display many times last year, burning teams with his moves and quick feet. Armstrong also took 26 carries for 188 yards and two touchdowns as the Longhorns loved to pitch it to Armstrong or bring him on a sweep and let him do work.

Armstrong, a first-team All-Big XII selection and a third-team All-American, declared after his junior year after starting just 19 games as a Longhorn. Armstong started his first game in 2014 and after having 4 career receptions, Armstrong snagged 10 receptions for 171 yards and two touchdowns in the Red River Shootout in his first start as a redshirt sophomore.

Armstrong finished his Texas career with 16 receiving, 4 rushing and 1 punt return touchdown.

Morris was the third quickest WR at the combine in 40 time, but had the quickest shuttle and cone drills.

"His elusiveness is something that every team in the NFL will want", said Texas coach Charlie Strong after Armstrong declared for the draft in January.

Armstrong, who was off the radar until the middle of last season for the NFL is now the 35th pick in the draft to the Cleveland Browns.

Browns take Buckeye RB Ace Baker in third round

Baker had two 1,000 yard seasons at Ohio State

________________________________

BEREA, OHIO --- Ace Baker's back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons made him a highly known runningback. The junior from Cleveland, OH is going to play for the Cleveland Browns.

"It's a dream come true, when I got the phone call, I couldn't believe I was going to be a Brown", said Baker after being selected in the third round of the NFL Draft.

Baker was considered a high-to-mid 2nd round selection, and possibly a late first, and was the highest RB on most NFL analyst's boards, but slipped to the top of the third to Cleveland. With running backs falling, the Browns basically went BPA here with Ace Baker. Although runningback isn't a huge need, with Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson Jr. on the team, both selected by the Browns over the past two seasons, Baker may easily be the best runningback in this draft.

Baker's main concerns are his catching, not his running, his inconsistency catching out of the backfield scares some teams away, as he struggled with it at Ohio State, but he is a powerful and elusive runner.

Fix his catching problems, and he becomes a very dynamic back in the NFL.

Two fantastic pickups. Armstrong looks absolutely deadly with that speed!

great first 3 selections. I think the browns dont have a pressing need at rb, but I agree with their decision to take best player available... I excited to see to see how the rest of the draft goes

Browns pick up UNLV RT DeMarco Marsh in fourth round

Marsh started 41 consecutive games for UNLV

___________________________________

BEREA, OHIO --- There's just one UNLV player currently playing in the NFL, and that's center Joe Hawley, selected in the fourth round in 2010 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

DeMarco Marsh becomes the first UNLV Rebel selected since then, also in the fourth round, with his higher pick number, this is the highest a UNLV player has been selected since Eric Wright in the second round in 2006, also to the Browns.

Marsh started 41 consecutive games for the Rebels, most of them at right tackle. He was basically the slowest in the 40 yard dash at the combine, but was the best on the bench presses and the other strength-related activities there. His slow 40 time scares most teams who slapped a 5th-7th round grade on Marsh.

Unfortunately Marsh didn't enjoy much success at UNLV, as UNLV won just 14 games in his four years of college football. Marsh was the only UNLV player to make an All-Mountain West conference team in 2015, being a first-team choice in 2014 and 2015 and a second-team choice in 2013.

Marsh, despite his slow 40 time, played the most snaps of any UNLV lineman over the past two seasons, he's always on the field, and is an extremely well-rounded blocker. There isn't a weakness in the blocking department, just his slow 40 time. Get over that and he's going to be a solid right tackle for the Browns. Did we mention is he is 6'7", 340lbs and may be the strongest rookie lineman in the NFL.

Browns complete draft with trade up for CB, pick DT and G/C

The Browns traded back into the fourth round for Temple CB Reginald Thomas (3), who had 7 INTs as a senior

___________________________________________

BEREA, OHIO --- CB Reginald Thomas (Temple), DT Riley Carpenter (Oklahoma) and G/C Keron Garrett (Florida State) completed the Browns 2016 NFL Draft.

The Browns traded up to the fourteenth pick in the 4th round to grab the Temple corner, giving up their sixth, and next year's sixth round pick to select Temple corner Reginald Thomas. Thomas will add some incredible speed to the Browns secondary. Thomas, who also played a bit of returner, had 2 long pick-sixes for the Owls this season.

Fourth Round Pick (via Jacksonville): Reginald Thomas #20
79 OVR, 97 SPD, 86 MCV, 87 ZCV

In the fifth round, the Browns selected Oklahoma DT Riley Carpenter. Carpenter had one of the quicker 40 times at the combine, and has played both DT and DE for the Sooners. Although the Browns just signed B.J. Raji and drafted Danny Shelton last year, Carpenter brings a DE/DT flexibility and is quick enough to play both spots.

Fifth Round Pick: Riley Carpenter #91
77 OVR, 74 SPD, 74 TKL, 87 ACC, 81 PWR

To close the draft, the Browns added Keron Garrett from Florida State. Garrett looks to be a flexible player between guard and center.

Seventh Round Pick: Keron Garrett #70
70 OVR, 75 PBK, 87 RBK, 82 IMP, 88 STR

After the draft, the phones got busy as Cleveland has added the following players to its 70-man roster:
QB David Fales
QB Matt Scott
RB Karmah Brackett (UDFA, Troy)
RB Westly Quarles (UDFA, McNeese State)
TE Will Tye
TE Demetrius Harris
LT Bradley Sowell
LG Cyril Richardson
C Dillon Ferrell
DE Larry Webster III
DE Shawn Bell (UDFA, South Florida)
LB Brandon Hepburn
LB Jake Ryan
LB DJ Landrum (UDFA, New Mexico)
LB Zaviar Gooden
CB Lamarcus McKay (UDFA, Rice)
FS Steven Terrell
K Max Farmer (UDFA, Indiana State)
