Pre-Season Game 3 Notes
  • Both Offense and Defense continue to improve. Offense still needs more big plays and less dink'n'dunk. Defense was much improved.
  • Generated 415 yards of offense (119 rushing and 296 passing), primarily to give RGIII and Grayson opportunities to compete.
  • Allowed 364 yards and 266 yard of passing. Still allowing too many long passes.
  • Grayson won week 2, but week 3 goes to Griffin. Grayson played extremely conservative, missed some wide open throws and was sacked 4 times. RGIII threw a pick, but also 2 TDs and pushed the ball downfield.
  • Seth Roberts (5 rec, 98 yds, 1 TD) continue to be the star of the pre-season. Caught an amazing one handed catch over the top of the coverage for a huge gain.
  • Andrus Peat (RT) continues to allow D-lineman to put too much pressure on the QB and gave up 2 sacks.
  • Both rookie DT's, Adrain Bradley and Jimmy Phillip, got a sack.
  • Pass defense was improved with 2 interceptions (Jenkins and Motta) nd only 266 yards allowed through the air, mostly at the end of the 4th.
  • Won 34-24.
  • Hau'oli Kikaha (LOLB) - Out 1 week with broken ribs
  • Brandon Coleman (WR) - Out 4 weeks with a dislocated elbow.

Next 6 Cut:
  • Jed Collins (FB) - Camp Body
  • Juron Criner (WR) - Outplayed by Roberts & Fowler
  • Bobby Richardson (LE) - Outplayed by Montgomery
  • John Jenkins (DT) - poor scheme fit
  • Michael Mauti (MLB) - Outplayed by Ellerbe & Humber
  • Dallas Thigpen (K) - Outplayed by Coons

Pre-Season Game 4 Notes
  • Starters only played 1 series. Backups played well overall, but allowed too many long plays.
  • Generated 472 yards of offense (171 rushing and 301 passing).
  • Allowed 385 yards and 310 yard of passing. Rookie WR; McCoy, got loose twice for big gains.
  • Grayson was far more settled and accurate than RGIII. Both threw for 2 TDs, but Griffin had less than 50% completion.
  • Bennie Fowler (6 rec, 105 yds, 2 TDs) was the star on offense, making several key catches on 3rd down and got behind the D for a long score in the 2nd quarter.
  • Stephone Anthony was all over the field with 11 tackles, 3 for a loss.
  • Pass defense continues to make big plays with 3 interceptions (Barron, Lucas and Lewis), but can't keep allowing so many big gains.
  • Won 44-20.
  • Brandon Coleman (WR) - Out 3 weeks with a dislocated elbow.

Last 6 Cut: To Be Announced

Final Cuts Meeting

Present:
Rickey Jackson (GM/Owner)
Jim Glidewell (HC)
Harper Blake (GM's PA)
Rod Woodall (Head of Scouting)
Kyle Sims (Head of Finance)

"Let's keep this quick, our first look is at QB. I think we only keep one backup behind Drew, but we gotta figure out which one." - RJ

"I'm happy to have just two. It's not like we can't sign someone if we lose Drew and neither Grayson or Griffin have wowed enough to think we can give them up. Grayson's got the edge on production this preseason, but RGIII's potential and athleticism is certainly enticing." - JG

"Well in terms of salary, both are going to cost us $600K this year, but we cut Griffin and we save $1.5M compared to Grayson's $650K." - KS

"I think that decides it, RGIII's walking. On to HB's, we've currently got five on the roster and we're keeping Ingram, Ellington & Spiller. What about Jonas Gray and Storm Johnson?" - RJ

"They both played fine in some limited action, but Gray has been a pain in the *** and Johnson isn't picking up the offense like a guy who's been here in training camp. I say cut both and if we need to bring in another FA." - JG

"Sounds about right to me, done. We have seven receivers right now, what are we going to do with that?" - RJ

"With Coleman out for the first 3 games and the pace I want to run the offense at, I say keep what we have right now and evaluate when Bradon's back practicing. Also, both Fowler and especially Roberts worked non-stop throughout camp and preseason and put some good action out on the field too. Don't think we want to lose guys like that. And the same goes for the four TE's." - JG

"Fine, but it means we'll have to make room elsewhere. What about the O-line?" - RJ

"By pushing Hansen to the guard spot, it means we can probably let Carimi walk and by having Mark Barron play the hybrid OLB and DB, then both Kikaha and Roc Carmichael are not going to see a lot of action." - RW

"How does that look financially Kyle?" - RJ

"Carimi and Carmichael are not an issue, but Kikaha has got guarantees that mean a $1.5M hit that stays on the books. If you're looking at LBers then both Humber and Ellerbe are free of future guarantees." - KS

"Both of those guys played their butts off in all four games, we can't be cutting them now!" - JG

"I get it, but here's your choice then; a WR, a TE or Humber or Ellerbe?" - RJ

"That's a rough look at it, but I guess that's the business then. Based on performance going forward, I'd say James Hanna is least likely to see much of the field." - JG

"It sucks, but it's the way it is." - RJ

Last 6 Cut:
  • Robert Griffin III (QB) - Outperformed by Grayson
  • Jonas Gray (HB) - Poor attitude
  • Storm Johnson (HB) - Lack of performance
  • James Hanna (TE) - Limited roster size
  • Gabe Carimi (LG) - Moved Hansen from Center to Guard
  • Roc Carmichael (CB) - Outperformed by P.J. Williams
