Re: Gold for our community, Red for your blood - San Fransisco 49ers -
Carlos Hyde rumbles through the core of the defense for the game winning touchdown
49ers overcome pair of Gonzalez interceptions, rally to victory
The Patriots struck early and Austin Davis was playing terrific, looking a lot more like his predecessor rather than a young journeyman quarterback. Much ado to the season the Patriots have been having, they couldn't keep it together and the 49ers would rally to victory.
This is despite John Gonzalez tossing two interceptions and at times looking less than capable under center, but rather than pulling the young signal caller in favor of Keenum or Harnish, Gonzalez stayed in and in the second quarter delivered with two good runs, one going for 22 the other a touchdown scamper where he would manage to twist his way into the end zone as he was brought down.
That seemingly ignited the 49ers, especially their ground game who after the defense allowed a touchdown and the lead switched to the opposition, the team chose to move on the ground and Carlos Hyde went to work, punishing and bruising the core of the Patriots defense. Relentless in his attack, he continued on.
It would result in a pair of fourth quarter touchdown runs. His first giving the 49ers a lead that would hold briefly until the Patriots roared downfield, only to get stopped and lead to a Stephen Gostkowski field goal. A quick three and out as the 49ers tried to get vertical led to a long field for the Patriots, and Austin Davis got caught by a blitzer, and in attempt to lob a pass, it would get batted at the line of scrimmage and reeled in by Hussain Abdullah who would be tackled immediately but starting in the Patriots end with a tie game, things were trending up.
On first down, John Gonzalez would be flushed from the pocket and toss a pass up to Carlos Hyde, Hyde pulled it in for a 22 yard gain and suddenly the 49ers were in field goal range. The ground game went back to the forefront as the team looked to burn out clock but the Patriots defense caved, allowing two good runs, and a final push at the line of scrimmage led to a touchdown for the 49ers and what would be the final score of the game.
The victory brings the 49ers once more to a win shy of .500 as they hope to keep their playoff hopes alive. With Junior Gallette returning to the field in the coming weeks, this is a team that could ignite and rattle off a nice little win streak in the coming weeks, especially with a pair of matchups against a completely helpless St.Louis (soon to be Los Angeles) Ram squad.

Hopefully Gonzalez can lower the turnover rate, it's killing the offense, if he can be less turnover prone, this could be a playoff bound team especially if the defense can improve with the return of Junior Gallette.

Jets rout 49ers at Levi
The boo's were loud in this one.
What else would you expect when your defense makes an average at absolute best, Geno Smith look like Peyton Manning in his prime? Smith put on a clinic as the wide receiving core which is admittedly good for the Jets had a field day. A simple statistic, Geno Smith threw the ball 15 times for over 400 yards, throwing just two incompletions and no turnovers.
It outshined an excellent performance from rookie John Gonzalez. Gonzalez pitched a near perfect game of his own with just one turnover on a tipped pass. Throwing for just shy of 400 yards with 4 touchdowns nearly matching his season total in just a single game.
There isn't a question, this offense has talent for the 49ers, they can move the ball with Carlos Hyde on the ground and a tremendous amount of help from the receiving ranks. The big issue lies in that of the quarterback which has been mistake prone all year long. In the first game where there actually wasn't much in the way of errors, the 49ers were routed.
This defense needs to make improvements and in a year that the offense is playing spectacularly, the defense hasn't been able to keep up to snuff, and while this cornerback core is far from special, these amount of numbers on a weekly basis are going to destroy any hopes of a playoff run this season, and it's quickly slipping as the team falls to 4-6.
Luckily enough, the 49ers draw the one win Rams. If they can't win there, the problems will be exponential for this football team, especially with the likely return of Junior Gallette on the defensive end.

Jim Tomsula out as head coach
After leading the 49ers to a 4-6 record midway through this season and one of the worst records in the league last year, Jed York pulled the trigger and announced the firing of Tomsula. Tomsula lasted just a year and a half as the head man for the 49ers and while the team management wanted to be patient, they couldn't accept the new lows this defense has hit and seemingly substantially regressed on that end.
In the interim, coach Craig Fancher. Fancher spent time as the assistant head coach with the 49ers this season and was elevated to head man status. Fancher will be evaluated at the end of the season to determine if he remains the best fit to coach the team.

Jimmy Ward hauls in the victory sealing interception
49ers shut down Rams passing attack
In what might've been one of the best performances by the 49ers defense this season, the 49ers forced three turnovers and smothered the opposition to claim victory. Even despite Todd Gurley performing at a level typically expected of him.
Todd Gurley piled on the yards on Monday night, but without the help of McCray in the passing game, it was just too much for the second year back to accomplish. The back fought for every yard but as been the case the lack of receiving options and a young quarterback the team struggled.
On the otherside the offense sputtered against a fairly good Ram's defense. The 49ers drove early for back to back scores off of turnovers. The 49ers leapt to a 10-0 lead while the defense put the locks on the opposition. The offense started to slow however, unsurprisingly.
The Rams defense was strong as they had been, despite only recording one sack to the 49ers four. Simply due to excellent protection schemes by a good 49ers offensive line. For the other side, it made things even harder for McCray whom suffered several hits and sacks.
The Rams started to drive in the final five minutes, trying to bring the score within a single score and potentially steal a victory. It wasn't meant to be however. Despite getting the farthest they had all season, the 49ers 5, an interception by Jimmy Ward in the back of the end zone clinched the victory for the 49ers.
The 49ers had a lot of good in this one, and the Rams do have a good defense, despite their 1-10 record. The 49ers improve to 5-6 on the season but with a tough stretch featuring Seattle and Arizona it's hard to see a playoff game being in their future. They remain two games out of a wildcard bid, both Arizona and Seattle sit at 5 and 6 in the conference.
