Re: And Then I'll Rise and Fight Again | Miami Hurricanes Football Dynasty
Miami land five-star studs Grant and Green on NSD, close it with four-stars Gilmore and Miller. They weren't quite able to beat rival Florida State in the final rankings but Miami will take it's four five-stars home any day of the week. It was a busy day for Miami and Mark Richt, landing four new commitments and signees on National Signing Day, none bigger (literally) than five star defensive tackle Carlos Green, the top rated defensive tackle in the country. Miami also doubled up with the signing of Taylor Grant, the nation's second ranked defensive tackle. Four-star tight end Adrian Miller was icing on the cake, as was linebacker Chris Gilmore. They did lose out on offensive tackle Seth Brown, an in-state product who signed with Indiana University. JUCO product defensive tackle Makani Manoa did not sign as he failed to qualify academically in time, likely ending his D-1 dreams. Miami finished with the 12th ranked class in the country -- two behind Florida State -- but tied Ohio State with the most five-star commits. ******** async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"> ******** async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"> ******** async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"> ******** async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"> ******** async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"> ******** async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"> ******** async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"> ******** async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"> ******** async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"> ******** async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"> ******** async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"> ******** async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"> ******** async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"> ******** async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"> ******** async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"> ******** async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"> ******** async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"> Class of 2019 #STORM19 QB Jason White [QB #1]: 6'1", 213lbs | Deltona, FL DT Carlos Green [DT #1]: 6'6", 303lbs | Nacogdoches, TX DT Taylor Grant [DT #2]: 6'7", 269lbs | Picture Rocks, AZ ATH Derek Sanders [ATH #7]: 6'2", 197lbs | Carlsbad, NM TE Adrian Miller [TE #11]: 6'4", 236lbs | Cedar Falls, IA LB Chris Gilmore [LB #6]: 6'5", 229lbs | Dewey-Humboldt, AZ DT Derrick Sparks [DT #13]: 6'3", 264lbs | Cape Coral, FL ATH Roger Downing [ATH #64]: 5'10", 178lbs | Cutlerville, MI [juco] ATH Paul Blanco [ATH #69]: 6'1", 210lbs | Druid Hills, GA [juco] CB Brad Summers [CB #12]: 5'10", 183lbs | Prichard, AL LB Jonathan Robinson [LB #23]: 5'11", 227lbs | Hartselle, AL CB Sean Gordon [CB #23]: 5'10", 202lbs | Miami, FL OT Rusty Hollins [T #37]: 6'8", 283lbs | Jackson, MS DE Marcus Dukes [DE #121]: 6'3", 258bs | Cranford, NJ HB Ryan Rucker [HB #40]: 6'1", 216lbs | Enterprise, AL DE Marcus Shelton [DE #129]: 6'0", 237lbs | Arlington Heights, IL C Mike Davis [C #13]: 6'5", 316lbs | Miami, FL Top 25 Recruiting Classes 1. Re: And Then I'll Rise and Fight Again | Miami Hurricanes Football Dynasty
Changes all around as Miami kicks off fall camp It's been a very attentive first few days of spring practice as Manny Diaz installed a seemingly brand new defense and offensive coordinator Matt Lubick got accustomed to his new batch of players trying to learn a new system. Miami will be on it's third quarterback in three years but it remains to be seen if quarterback Evan Shirreffs will get the nod a the senior or has true freshman and early enrolee Jason White done enough in the spring to get the nod. Here are the top storylines entering the spring... -------- White making the coaching staff drool. There's no doubt that Shirreffs is the better quarterback of the two. He's the more accurate and consistent of the two and is simply more physically ready to play on Saturdays. White, however, made some great plays throughout the spring with his arm talent that Shirreffs, no matter how hard he tries, simply cannot make. White's talent is undeniable but will the coaching staff roll the dice on the young quarterback? Lubick ready to make use of all three of his talented running backs. Both Travis Homer and D'Andre Sparks nearly rushed for 1,000-yards apiece and both had over ten touchdowns, nineteen for Homer and twelve for Sparks. They'll need to make space for five-star Derek Sanders, who has taken most of his snaps at running back. Receiver is an option for Sanders but given that's already crowded, especially with three-star JUCO transfer Bubba Downing Jr. taking snaps at receiver with the first team, Sanders should be a welcomed addition to the backfield. Could Miami really have three running backs rush for over 500 yards? They might. Diaz trying hand at base nickel defense. Miami's front seven was and has been the strength of their defense for years but with the likes of Chad Thomas, Demetrius Jackson and Brandon Moore all gone, Miami will need to rely on it's back end more than ever. Defensive coordinator Manny Diaz has shown a trust in his DBs with Miami primarily running a base nickel defense with a lot of 4-2-5 looks with two strong safeties, Rameo Finley and Derek Nolan, in the starting unit. After enjoying the stable situation with Brad Kaaya for four years, Miami has now had a new quarterback each of the past three seasons. It remains to be announced who will be the starter but the leader coming out of camp was true freshman and former five-star recruit Jason White. The group was gutted this past season with two transfers in Jelanie Johnson and current West Virginia quarterback, and expected starter, Jack Allison. A look at Miami’s quarterback situation: Projected depth chart Jason White, Fr. Evan Shirreffs, R-Fr. Bubba Downing, Jr. Kevin Woods, Fr. Expected starter: White has looked the best in spring practices and the scrimmage, mainly due to his arm talent. It's inconsistent at times and he lacks the speed needed for the option portion of Matt Lubick's spread offense but just nimble enough to pick up a few yards at a time on the ground. Major storyline: Having already touched on the starting competition between White and Evan Shirreffs, the next story line would be how Lubick intends to use Bubba Downing Jr. who served as the team's third string quarterback as well as slot receiver. Downing has the athleticism and enough prowess as a thrower, similar to corner back Evan Siegel, to be used as a situational quarterback.

******** async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"> ******** async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"> Palm Beach Post // Michael Perryman Miami’s coaches would have no problem entering the season with running backs Travis Homer and D'Andre Sparks splitting carries. Derek Sanders might take exception, however. The former five-star running back enrolled early to have a shot at earning snaps -- whether at receiver, running back or even quarterback -- and he's found his home as the team's third running back and he'll get getting carries. Homer and Sparks each almost got 1,000-yards and they both could topple 1,000-yards again. A look at Miami’s running back situation heading into the fall camp. Projected depth chart Travis Homer, Sr. D'Andre Sparks, So. Jeremy Johnson, RS So. Jonas Overstreet, RS Fr. Ryan Rucker, Fr. Expected starter: Homer is the guy, he did score 19 touchdowns last season, but that's just in name. Miami should use all three of their top backs in 2019, with each likely hovering around 100 carries. Major story line: How will the team use Derek Sanders, a five-star recruit, that might be the best athlete of the bunch? Miami tried to use D'Andre Sparks a receiving back last season, who caught 41 passes, but he never really got loose as a receiver and his limited route running abilities didn't allow him to be used beyond simply a check down back. Sanders could play receiver at this level -- or the next -- and should bring a different aspect to the backfield.

He's starting to put it on film now. Richards had a breakout junior season after having a quiet first two seasons, reeling in 45 passes for 717 yards. Richards should be a favorite for expected starter true freshman Jason White as will senior Dionte Mullins, both capable of making game breaking plays. Add in a couple of reliable slot receivers in sophomore Justin Fogle and JUCO-transfer Bubba Downing Jr., and you have a great supporting cast at receiver. A look at Miami’s receiver situation heading into the fall camp. Projected depth chart Ahmmon Richards, Sr. Dionte Mullins, Sr. Justin Fogle, So. Bubba Downing, Jr. John Walker III, So. Lamont Bennett, RS Fr. Bentavious Harris, Fr. Dan Nelson, RS Fr. Lee Foster, RS Fr. Josh Butler, Jr. Jovan Graves, Jr. Expected starter: There are no clear starters outside of Richards and Mullins. Offensive coordinator and receivers coach Matt Lubick has not been shy about mixing up who the third and fourth receiver is going to be. Major story line: Walker III has yet to find a true position in this offense, as was the case last season when he caught 22 passes, primarily out of the slot. Walker's size at six-foot-size lends himself to be an outside receiver but he lacks the elite speed that Lubick -- and even head coach Mark Richt -- wants on the outside. He continues to primarily work in the slot and should be an interesting matchup for opposing defenses.

That could be coming to an end under new offensive coordinator Matt Lubick. Throughout the spring, tight ends were rarely seen in action outside of goal line situation and one or two ace packages that the team deploys sparingly. Lubick, who comes from a spread background, doesn't seem to emphasize the tight end or H-back position as much as head coach Mark Richt, the team's play caller the last three seasons, does. A look at Miami’s tight end/h-back situation heading into the fall camp. Projected depth chart Michael Irvin, RS Jr. Jovani Haskins, Sr. Adrian Miller, Fr. Paul Blanco, Jr. Chauncey Nelson, Sr. Expected starter: Michael Irvin II, the son of the former Hurricanes and Dallas Cowboys great, has seen his role rise over the past two years and should be the starter. Major story line: How will they be used, if any? True freshman Adrian Miller might be the team's best blocker at the skill positions and he might be a better blocker than some of their offensive linemen. He should earn playing time as a blocker in short yardage situation. Haskins is extremely talented but will have a hard time getting on the field, same for junior transfer Paul Blanco who is starting at fullback after coming in as a receiver.

Okay.. his name is Jason White. He's white. He can't run. He plays quarterback. That young man needs to wear #18 because he's going to win the Heisman and play six seasons in college due to injury. You heard it here first.
Carlos Green is an absolute monster -- definite possibilities as the anchor (literally) of your defense for years to come. Awesome haul with him and the others on signing day. You've really set yourself up well for the future. I love the recruiting trading card visuals too.. not sure I've seen that in any other thread before. Can't wait for the 2018 season. Keep up the great work!
