In their home opener, the 49ers defeated the Miami Dolphins 29-28 in an offensive thriller. A back and forth affair for most of the first half, the game swung in Miami's favor after they scored two 3rd quarter touchdowns. Down 28-17, Blaine Gabbert led two 4th quarter touchdown drives that gave the 49ers a 29-28 lead and, ultimately, the win. RB Taylor Dansby caught his first career touchdown pass from Gabbert. Though the unit surrendered four touchdowns, the 49ers defense notched five sacks and picked off Ryan Tannehill twice.

The 49ers began their Week 3 battle against the Chicago Bears by playing their worst half of football of the young season. An impotent rushing attack combined with three Blaine Gabbert interceptions, put San Francisco in a 13-0 hole entering halftime. However, Jeff Womack's young team showed a surprising amount of tenacity in the second half, finding themselves down by only three with under two minutes left. On 4th and 24, Blaine Gabbert completed a pass to upstart second year WR Titus Davis who was tackled two yards short of the first down line. The Bears regained possession and knelt twice to end the game. Defensively, the 49ers had some trouble against rookie QB Dan Reeves, who threw for 385 yards and a touchdown. 49ers rookie WR Trey Swanson made his first NFL reception and scored his first professional touchdown in the contest.

One of the NFL's early surprises, the undefeated St. Louis Rams fell back to earth on Thursday night against the San Francisco 49ers. The story of the night was the 49er rushing attack, which amounted to 253 yards on the ground and a number of exciting highlights. Carlos Hyde ran 46 yards for a touchdown on San Francisco's second offensive play from scrimmage and former rugby player Jarryd Hayne achieved a career high 77 yard run. The Niner defense operated under a "bend, don't break" mentality, allowing the Rams to develop some long drives but refusing to yield a single touchdown. San Francisco also made sure to take advantage of St. Louis miscues (8 penalties, 1 turnover). Week 5 will bring the 49ers to Buffalo to face the defending Super Bowl Champion Bills and ex-49er QB Colin Kaepernick.
