Do Your Job: Life After Brady & Belichick | A Patriots Franchise

Hey all! This will be a completely simulated franchise. I plan to play as the current owner, Robert Kraft, and run the team top to bottom as an owner, so I will not actually play any games. I’ve always wanted to do a franchise like this for quite some time. I’m a Redskins fan (HTTR!) at heart, but I’ve always been interested in running such a successful franchise when losing the person who essentially brought them to superstardom. I will start with the 2015-16 season with the anticipation that Tom Brady will retire after the season. I will do a season recap of the 2015-16 season, as well as a recap of the offseason and draft. There will be a week by week detailed analysis starting the 2016-17 season. If it's needed to know, I am playing on the PS4. I hope all those that follow enjoy it!The season will start with the retirement of Bill Belichick late after the 2015 draft. The Patriots decide on hiring Griffin Murphy as the interim head coach until after the 2015-16 season, who has ties with Belichick. Tom Brady has informed the team that this will be his last year in the NFL.

Re: Do Your Job: Life After Brady & Belichick | A Patriots Franchise

2016-17 Regular Season AFC Preview

AFC North

Key Losses: WR Mohamed Sanu, CB Leon Hall, OLB Vincent Rey
Key Additions: SS Jahleel Addae, OLB Junior Galette, WR Chris Matthews, CB Darqueze Dennard, CB Perrish Cox
Key Potential Rookies: DE Harlos Owens
2015-16 Record: 14-2 (1st in AFC North)
Strength of Schedule: 0.517
2016-17 Season Trend: Negative
Season Preview: The Bengals held the best regular season record last year at 14-2. With only the loss of Sanu, Hall and Rey the Bengals are looking up once again. They added stud safety Addae as well as great role players with Galette, Matthews, Dennard and Cox. 1st round pick Harlos Owens has potential, but is still a project for the team. This should be another battle for first with the Ravens and Steelers again.
Prediction: 1st in AFC North

Key Losses: MLB Karlos Dansby, DT Phil Taylor, FS Tashaun Gipson, CB Tramon Williams, QB Josh McCown, WR Dwayne Bowe
Key Additions: OG Mark Glowinski, HB Alfred Morris, HB Thomas Rawls, FS Robert Golden, DT Kenrick Ellis
Key Potential Rookies: WR Haile Gilbert
2015-16 Record: 6-10 (4th in AFC North)
Strength of Schedule: 0.535
2016-17 Season Trend: Negative
Season Preview: The Browns finally did not take a quarterback in the first round, opting to stick with either Johnny Manziel/Austin Davis. Instead, with their two first round picks, they chose two wide receivers. Haile Gilbert is the standout at receiver with Sean Banks as the second choice. It should pave the way for the offense with the addition of a two-headed dragon at running back with an Alfred Morris/Thomas Rawls combo. They did lose some major key pieces with Dansby, Phil Taylor and Gipson. With a tough strength-of-schedule, we see the Browns with a similar record this year.
Prediction: 4th in AFC North

Key Losses: WR Kamar Aiken, WR Marlon Brown
Key Additions: WR Roddy White, DT B.J. Raji
Key Potential Rookies: WR Corey Russell, C Samuel Cooper
2015-16 Record: 10-6 (2nd in AFC North)
Strength of Schedule: 0.536
2016-17 Season Trend: Negative
Season Preview: With the toughest strength-of-schedule in the NFL, it looks to be a tough year for the Ravens. They only lost Aiken and Brown to free agency, but made that up by adding veteran receiver Roddy White and rookie standout Corey Russell. They helped bolster their D-line with the addition of B.J. “Teach Me How To” Raji. They also have a very stout offensive line to protect Joe Flacco, the Jon Lester of NFL Playoffs. With Perriman and Russell learning under Roddy, it should pave the way for the receiving corps to be the focus of the offense.
Prediction: 3rd in AFC North

Key Losses: OLB James Harrison, CB William Gay, SS Will Allen, DT Steve McLendon
Key Additions: OLB Lamarr Houston, OLB Akeem Ayers, TE Marcedes Lewis
Key Potential Rookies: FS Lee Randle, CB Aundre Jones, TE Nico Porter, DT Maxey Woods
2015-16 Record: 8-8 (3rd Place in AFC North)
Strength of Schedule: 0.521
2016-17 Season Trend: Positive
Season Preview: The Steelers have to be the closest team to the Greatest Show on Turf when healthy. They lost some key defensive players, but the rookie CB Aundre Jones was named the starter in preseason and will lead the secondary this year. They surprised people in the draft by taking Lee Randle who is showing starter potential, but unless Mike Mitchell gets hurt he won’t see any playing time soon. If the Steelers stay healthy, they should fight for first place with the Bengals.
Prediction: 2nd in AFC North

AFC East

Key Losses: FS Duke Williams, QB E.J. Manuel
Key Additions: OLB Courtney Upshaw, SS Walter Thurmond III, QB Tim Tebow
Key Potential Rookies: RG Nate Lucas, LOLB Brady Sam, MLB Ben Hendrix, K Griffin Morris
2015-16 Record: 5-10-1 (4th in AFC East)
Strength of Schedule: 0.519
2016-17 Season Trend: Neutral
Season Preview: The big news in Buffalo is that Tim Tebow has been given another chance at Quarterback in the NFL. He will backing up Tyrod Taylor, and with any mobile QB there is a greater chance that Tyrod might get hurt, handing the reigns over to Tebow. The Bills have one of the tougher strength-of-schedules and although they bolstered their already stout defense through free agency and the draft, not much offensive help was added. There’s no certainty into how far Tyrod can take them, or maybe even Tebow.
Prediction: 2nd in AFC East

Key Losses: DE Derrick Shelby, DE Quinton Coples
Key Additions: OG Mackenzy Bernadeau
Key Potential Rookies: OG Bryce Carter, WR Adrian Stallworth
2015-16 Record: 8-8 (2nd in AFC East)
Strength of Schedule: 0.534
2016-17 Season Trend: Negative
Season Preview: The Dolphins lost their head coach Joe Philbin after starting 0-5 last season and finishing 8-8. They picked up Lovie Smith who was fired after leading the Bucs to a dismal 4-12 start, although they did have a rookie Quarterback. Lovie Smith, known for his defense, did absolutely nothing in the offseason after losing two of their better defensive ends. There were no promising defensive rookies taken in the draft either. The only part of the team that improved was the O-line, which seems to show that they trust in Tannehill and the defense how it stands. With one of the toughest strength-of-schedules under the scrutinized Lovie Smith, they won’t get far this year.
Prediction: 4th in AFC East

Key Losses: QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, CB Antonio Cromartie, HB Chris Ivory, HB Bilal Powell, OT D’Brickashaw Ferguson, OLB Calvin Pace
Key Additions: None
Key Potential Rookies: QB Thomas Martin, HB Tyri Alexander
2015-16 Record: 8-6-2 (1st in AFC East)
Strength of Schedule: 0.533
2016-17 Season Trend: Negative
Season Preview: The Jets had an odd season last year tying twice, which has never happened to a single team within the same season in NFL history. In doing so, their record equated to 9-6, winning the AFC East. This year, they had some major losses. Fitzpatrick left to start for Houston, Ivory went to Green Bay, Powell went to Atlanta, and then Ferguson and Pace are still free agents. They helped the QB position in taking Thomas Martin with their first round pick. Martin played in a Vertical Offense in Wisconsin, so it will be interesting to see the long-time power run Jets possibly transition to a pass heavy offense. With threats like Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker, it’s not hard to go that route. They also confide in rookie Tyri Alexander from Florida State to take the reigns at running back.
Prediction: 3rd in AFC East

Key Losses: QB Tom Brady, HB LaGarrette Blount
Key Additions: HB Charcandrick West, WR Jermaine Kearse, C Patrick Lewis, DT Sealver Siliga, CB Patrick Robinson
Key Potential Rookies: QB Johnathon James, OLB Keliko Randall, OG Derek Mendoza OT Charly Glears, OG Terrance Arnold, OT Austin Scott
2015-16 Record: 8-8 (3rd Place in AFC East)
Strength of Schedule: 0.498
2016-17 Season Trend: Positive
Season Preview: The story of the year will be how the Patriots will rebound after losing arguably the greatest quarterback in NFL history. They drafted QB Johnathon James from Kent State in the 3rd round and he has really WOW’d in the preseason. So much so, that he was named the starter after the 3rd preseason game. It has been rumored that they are shopping Garoppolo. With new head coach Dana Clawson, they will move towards another pass heavy vertical offense. The coach and GM decided to bolster the offensive line in ensuring their new QB would be protected at all times. They also pulled last year’s AFC Best Running Back Charcandrick West after the Chiefs could not come to terms with him. They are starting two rookie offensive lineman, Derek Mendoza at guard and Austin Scott at right tackle. They are also starting a rookie weak side linebacker in Keliko Randall, who also WOW’d in the preseason. This is going to be an interesting year for the Patriots.
Prediction: 1st in AFC East

AFC South

Key Losses: SS Mike Adams, FS Dwight Lowery, HB Frank Gore, TE Dwayne Allen
Key Additions: HB Matt Forte, SS David Bruton Jr., CB Trumaine Johnson, OLB Nigel Bradham, FS Tashaun Gipson, HB Reggie Bush
Key Potential Rookies: SS Delency Rhodes, OLB Grayson Patrick
2015-16 Record: 6-10 (3rd in AFC South)
Strength of Schedule: 0.518
2016-17 Season Trend: Positive
Season Preview: The Colts struck gold in signing Matt Forte to pair with Andrew Luck. In that heavy pass offense, the stud receiving back will prosper in Indianapolis bringing back the competition to the Texans and surprising Titans. The loss of their safeties was bad at first, but their replacements could be even better so it worked out in the end. Also adding Reggie Bush doesn’t hurt when Forte needs some rest. They will have a starting rookie with OLB Grayson Patrick who looked good in preseason getting the starting nod over Stevenson Sylvester. The Colts should be a contender once again.
Prediction: 1st in AFC South

Key Losses: OT Jermey Parnell
Key Additions: OLB Quinton Coples, WR Brian Quick, FS Dwight Lowery, OLB Sam Acho, HB Ray Rice, OG Donald Thomas, MLB Paul Worrilow
Key Potential Rookies: DT Tyrone Atkins, CB Jose Blake, OG Shawn Cole
2015-16 Record: 5-10-1 (4th in AFC South)
Strength of Schedule: 0.503
2016-17 Season Trend: Positive
Season Preview: The Jaguars seem to be in the same boat again with an up and coming quarterback and additions that help, but don’t wow us. Ray Rice was a surprise signing, but he will still be behind T.J. Yeldon. They have some promising rookies with Jose Blake standing out among them all. This team still has some work to do if they want to contend with the rest of the division.
Prediction: 4th in AFC South

Key Losses: FS Quentin Demps
Key Additions: MLB Brandon Spikes, QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, DE Jason Jones, WR Dwayne Bowe, OG Jeff Allen
Key Potential Rookies: CB Deron Roberts, DE Christopher Holmes
2015-16 Record: 11-5 (1st Place in AFC South)
Strength of Schedule: 0.508
2016-17 Season Trend: Positive
Season Preview: Houston has bolstered their already star-studded defense with the addition of Brandon Spikes and Jason Jones, as well as rookies Deron Roberts and Christopher Holmes. They might have a consistent starter in Ryan Fitzpatrick that will help lead them to a playoff run. With only the loss of Quentin Demps, who will be replaced by Micah Hyde, the Texans are shaping up to have a similar year to last year.
Prediction: 2nd in AFC South

Key Losses: DE Karl Klug, DT Sammie Hill, DT A.J. Woods
Key Additions: FS Rashad Johnson, OLB DeMarcus Ware, HB Charles Sims III, CB Leon Hall, OT Mike Remmers, OG Manny Ramirez, HB Darren McFadden
Key Potential Rookies: CB Ego Hill, C Eric Carmichael, DE Rashaun Stumph
2015-16 Record: 11-5 (2nd Place in AFC South)
Strength of Schedule: 0.486
2016-17 Season Trend: Positive
Season Preview: With minor losses and major upgrades in the offseason, the Titans should have another playoff run on their hands. Besides the AFC North and NFC South, this should be a very interesting division this year with the Colts, Texans and Titans battling it out. With the addition of veteran Leon Hall, rookie standout CB Ego Hill should have great mentoring with Hall and McCourty. Marcus Mariota and Charles Sims III will lead the backfield, with Branden Oliver and Darren McFadden adding to create a three-headed dragon at running back.
Prediction: 3rd in AFC South

AFC West

Key Losses: QB Peyton Manning, OLB DeMarcus Ware, QB Brock Osweiler, HB C.J. Anderson, TE Vernon Davis, OG Evan Mathis, OLB Shaquil Barrett
Key Additions: TE Jermaine Gresham, LT Alvin Bailey, DT Roy Miller III, WR James Jones, QB Blaine Gabbert
Key Potential Rookies: HB Gilbert Nealy, DT Yvon Gilbert
2015-16 Record: 9-7 (2nd in AFC West)
Strength of Schedule: 0.511
2016-17 Season Trend: Negative
Season Preview: No team in the NFL lost more key parts than the Broncos. With the retirement of Peyton Manning, the Broncos lost their Sheriff. This lead to the loss of Ware, Osweiler, C.J. Anderson, Vernon Davis, Evan Mathis and Shaquil Barrett. When your starter is Blaine Gabbert, it’s going to be hard to take you seriously. They did help by adding Jermaine Gresham and the promising backup left tackle from Seattle, Alvin Bailey, who showed promise when he had a chance to step in for Okung. Lance Dunbar will start the season at running back, but we are hopeful to see the rookie Gilbert Nealy take over.
Prediction: 4th in AFC West

Key Losses: SS Jahleel Addae, CB Patrick Robinson, CB Brandon Flowers, TE Antonio Gates
Key Additions: DT Ahtyba Rubin, QB A.J. McCarron, SS Bernard Pollard, OT Jake Long, OG Ronald Leary, C Ben Jones
Key Potential Rookies: WR Jeffery Russell, CB J.J. Mims
2015-16 Record: 6-10 (4th in AFC West)
Strength of Schedule: 0.510
2016-17 Season Trend: Negative
Season Preview: With another mediocre season by the Chargers, will they finally bounce back and make a Super Bowl run for their close-to-retirement QB Philip Rivers? Probably not. They are loaded with receivers, including first-round pick Jeffery Russell, but the loss of two of their starting three cornerbacks along with longtime TE Antonio Gates, who’s now with the Giants, will not be enough to help the team go back to the playoffs. Rivers will join the company of the great quarterbacks who never saw the Big Show. They even picked up insurance for Rivers with A.J. McCarron as backup. Bernard Pollard will help and the offensive line has gotten better, but there just doesn’t seem to be enough defense to help the offense stay ahead. Time will tell.
Prediction: 3rd in AFC West

Key Losses: DE Jaye Howard, HB Charcandrick West, OG Jeff Allen, SS Tyvon Branch
Key Additions: WR Mohamed Sanu, OG Ben Grubbs, DE Greg Hardy
Key Potential Rookies: SS Westly Turner, DT Jamille Blake
2015-16 Record: 12-4 (1st in AFC West)
Strength of Schedule: 0.509
2016-17 Season Trend: Neutral
Season Preview: The Chiefs finally got back to the Super Bowl last year, eventually losing to the two-time Champion Seahawks. This Kansas City team has major promise this year. Although they lost last year’s Running Back of the Year, they still have Charles who, when healthy, is the best. Jaye Howard was a big loss on defense, but they have such a stout defensive line that it really shouldn’t make too much of a difference. They essentially lost guys who they could afford losing and ended up replacing them through the offseason and draft anyways. There would be no surprise if they ended up back in the Super Bowl again this year. Unless Alex Smith gets hurt, the Chiefs should be fine.
Prediction: 1st in AFC West

Key Losses: FS Charles Woodson, OT Donald Penn
Key Additions: DT Michael Brockers, TE Vernon Davis, OT Russell Okung, OG J.R. Sweezy, DE Chris Baker, HB James Starks, WR Mike Williams, SS Bacarri Rambo, FS Michael Thomas
Key Potential Rookies: CB Marvin Pickett, MLB Rashawn Coleman
2015-16 Record: 6-10 (3rd in AFC West)
Strength of Schedule: 0.526
2016-17 Season Trend: Positive
Season Preview: The Raiders lost a legend in Charles Woodson to retirement and stud Donald Penn to free agency. What did they do in return? Sign a bunch of potential starters and draft well once again. Helping the line with Okung and Sweezy, helping the defensive side with Brockers, Baker, Rambo and Thomas. Help the running back core with the addition of Starks. This Oakland team is looking to shape up at a playoff run behind the arm of Carr. This looks to be a fun year for the Raiders.
Prediction: 2nd in AFC West

2016-17 Regular Season NFC Preview

NFC North

Key Losses: HB Matt Forte, LT Jermon Bushrod, ROLB Lamarr Houston, QB A.J. McCarron, MLB Shea McClellin
Key Additions: CB Janoris Jenkins, LT Donald Penn, FS Duke Williams, SS Shawn Williams, C Samson Satele, WR Marlon Brown
Key Potential Rookies: QB Mathew Huval, MLB Rashawn Bell, C Adrian Gray
2015-16 Record: 5-11 (3rd in NFC North)
Strength of Schedule: 0.487
2016-17 Season Trend: Positive
Season Preview: The Bears seem to be the most confusing team coming into the next season. Last year they traded their 3rd round draft pick for A.J. McCarron, whom they ended up letting go to Free Agency. They then drafted QB Mathew Huval with the 4th overall pick, only for him to be 2nd on the depth chart behind Jay Cutler while in a rebuilding mode. It would only make sense to start him now and get what you can for Cutler. They helped the O-line by adding Donald Penn and Samson Satele. Their secondary got much better with the additions of Duke Williams, Shawn Williams and Janoris Jenkins. They did lose Matt Forte, which everyone saw coming, but Jeremy Langford will suffice. The Bears will probably end up last place this year regardless with who starts at QB as they are still in rebuild mode.
Prediction: 4th in NFC North

Key Losses: SS James Ihedigbo, DT Haloti Ngata, C Manny Ramirez, HB Reggie Bush
Key Additions: HB C.J. Anderson, TE Niles Paul, OT Bruce Campbell, DE Adrian Clayborn, DE Red Bryant MLB D’Qwell Jackson, MLB Sean Weatherspoon, SS Antrel Rolle, SS D.J. Swearinger
Key Potential Rookies: OT Kenan Patterson, OLB Sean Mosely
2015-16 Record: 4-12 (4th in NFC North)
Strength of Schedule: 0.472
2016-17 Season Trend: Positive
Season Preview: The Lions only lost two key pieces, Ihedigbo and Ngata. The additions outweigh the losses with C.J. Anderson, Adrian Clayborn, Antrel Rolle and D’Qwell Jackson. They look to get back to the playoffs with their gunslinger Stafford and superstar Calvin Johnson. The O-line has improved to help Stafford stay in the pocket longer by drafting Kenan Patterson first overall in the draft. Can they go from the worst team to playoff-bound? With one of the easiest strength-of-schedules, they have a chance.
Prediction: 3rd in NFC North

Key Losses: WOLB Julius Peppers, DT B.J. Raji, HB James Starks
Key Additions: HB Chris Ivory, DT John Jenkins
Key Potential Rookies: MLB Otha Gooden, DE Damiere Ray, CB Victor Jones
2015-16 Record: 11-5 (1st in NFC North)
Strength of Schedule: 0.472
2016-17 Season Trend: Positive
Season Preview: The Packers lost a legend in Julius Peppers this offseason. It shouldn’t make too much of a difference as they have a very easy strength-of-schedule this year bolstering their running back core with the addition of power back Chris Ivory. They essentially replaced B.J. Raji with John Jenkins and added some rookie defensive standouts as well. We expect the Packers to take the division this year.
Prediction: 1st in NFC North

Key Losses: OLB Chad Greenway
Key Additions: DE Justin Tuck, DT Brandon Mebane, SS Jeromy Miles, MLB James Laurinaitis
Key Potential Rookies: WR Taven Mason
2015-16 Record: 8-8 (2nd Place in NFC North)
Strength of Schedule: 0.468
2016-17 Season Trend: Positive
Season Preview: The Vikings have the easiest strength-of-schedule in the NFL. They added some veterans throughout the offseason with a standout rookie wide receiver in Taven Mason that helps an already good young receiving corps. Adrian Peterson will be looking for his ring this year, so we see a good battle between the Vikings and Packers.
Prediction: 2nd in NFC North

NFC East

Key Losses: QB Tony Romo, TE Jason Witten, DE Greg Hardy, HB Darren McFadden, CB Brandon Carr
Key Additions: QB Kirk Cousins, OLB Geno Hayes, TE Larry Donnell, OLB Mark Barron, OT Joe Barksdale, DE Kroy Biermann
Key Potential Rookies: TE Dallas White
2015-16 Record: 8-8 (2nd in NFC East)
Strength of Schedule: 0.492
2016-17 Season Trend: Neutral
Season Preview: The loss of Romo and Witten was a big shot to the heart of Cowboys fans everywhere. How would Jerry Jones help this team in its recovery? Sign the Redskins promising quarterback ‘Captain’ Kirk Cousins. They shocked the nation in picking up Cousins and ignoring RGIII, who was picked up by the Giants! This has been a crazy offseason for the NFC East. They also added a lot of role players, like Geno Hayes, Kroy Biermann, Larry Donnell, and Mark Barron. These are guys who do their job and don’t tend to put up big numbers or big plays. The addition of the best tight end in the draft, Dallas White, will be a namesake in Dallas. I mean c’mon, DALLAS White for the DALLAS Cowboys, Jerry Jones you sly dog. Although the addition of Kirk Cousins might be promising with the addition of an easy strength-of-schedule, he still led the Redskins to a 4-12 season. There are still improvements to be made.
Prediction: 3rd in NFC East

Key Losses: LT Jason Peters, DE Vinny Curry, SS Walter Thurmond III, QB Sam Bradford, HB Darren Sproles, QB Mark Sanchez
Key Additions: OG Jon Asamoah, OG Alex Boone, HB C.J. Spiller, WR Percy Harvin, DE Jeremy Mincey, QB E.J. Manuel
Key Potential Rookies: DT Keenan Tarpley
2015-16 Record: 8-8 (3rd in NFC East)
Strength of Schedule: 0.488
2016-17 Season Trend: Neutral
Season Preview: The Eagles lost many key pieces on both sides of the ball: Peters, Curry and Thurmond. They went and added two of the best offensive lineman available in free agency with Asamoah and Boone. They also added some speed with Spiller, Harvin and new starting QB E.J. Manuel. Will E.J. be the future of Philadelphia? The fans are excited, but then again who wouldn’t be after the Bradford/Sanchez debacle. After deciding to not sign either one, it seems the Eagles are finally on the right track.
Prediction: 2nd in NFC East

Key Losses: DT Cullen Jenkins, TE Larry Donnell
Key Additions: DT Steve McLendon, TE Antonio Gates, DT Paul Soliai, SS Duron Harmon, SS Robert Blanton, MLB Shea McClellin, QB Robert Griffin III
Key Potential Rookies: OLB D.J. Ivory
2015-16 Record: 10-6 (1st in NFC East)
Strength of Schedule: 0.504
2016-17 Season Trend: Neutral
Season Preview: : Did the Giants make the right move in signing the potential future starter in RGIII? Probably not. We’re not sure if the retirement of Tom Coughlin left management with no brains, but to have Eli mentor RGIII probably won’t be too much help, since they are completely opposite quarterbacks. Eventually the Giants will need to move towards a faster style of play with the feet of RGIII. He might be a good fit with Odell Beckham, but we’re just not sure it was the best signing. The signing of Antonio Gates and Steve McLendon will help the team reach the playoffs again. There wasn’t any significant losses that will make a difference than what they did last year, and every other team in the division has a new starting quarterback in a new offense. We should see the Giants back in the playoffs again.
Prediction: 1st in NFC East

Key Losses: QB Kirk Cousins, HB Alfred Morris, C Kory Lichtensteiger, DE Chris Baker, TE Niles Paul
Key Additions: SS Tony Jefferson, WR Torrey Smith, QB Brock Osweiler, CB Jeremy Lane, CB Alfonzo Dennard, HB Ahmad Bradshaw
Key Potential Rookies: DT Zach Franks, OT Keorris James, TE Tyler Spears
2015-16 Record: 4-12 (4th Place in NFC East)
Strength of Schedule: 0.496
2016-17 Season Trend: Positive
Season Preview: The Redskins lost out on four of their starters, most importantly Kirk Cousins. They went in and signed the Peyton Manning-trained Brock Osweiler as their eventual starter. They helped out their weak secondary in adding Jeremy Lane and Alfonzo Dennard, as well as Tony Jefferson. They also loaded up their WR corps with the addition of Torrey Smith. Brock Osweiler will have an exceptional offensive line with plenty of weapons. Although all of this sounds nice, we’re just not really sure they will do much better than last year, maybe 6 wins at most.
Prediction: 4th in NFC East

NFC South

Key Losses: OG Logan Mankins
Key Additions: LE Vinny Curry, FS Louis Delmas, SS Tyvon Branch, OLB James-Michael Johnson, HB LeGarrette Blount, WR Kamar Aiken
Key Potential Rookies: OT Michael James, OT Patrick Morgan
2015-16 Record: 4-12 (4th in NFC South)
Strength of Schedule: 0.496
2016-17 Season Trend: Positive
Season Preview: The Buccaneers had an excellent offseason with the addition of key defensive players with Curry, Delmas and Branch. Kamar Aiken will help an already studly wide receiver corps. By the way, at 6’2” he’s the smallest starting wide receiver in the slot. The only key loss to retirement was Logan Mankins, so I think the Buccaneers under the helm of Dan Golden will greatly improve, possibly a playoff run in the wild card.
Prediction: 2nd in NFC South

Key Losses: DT Jonathan Babineaux, DE Adrian Clayborn, WR Roddy White, OG Chris Chester, DE Tyson Jackson, MLB Paul Worrilow
Key Additions: FS Husain Abdullah, WR Justin Blackmon, OLB Vincent Rey, MLB Erin Henderson
Key Potential Rookies: WR Sanchez Wilson
2015-16 Record: 9-7 (2nd in NFC South)
Strength of Schedule: 0.488
2016-17 Season Trend: Neutral
Season Preview: The Falcons had a successful season last year by making the playoffs, but unsuccessful offseason by losing most of their starting defensive line. What’s worse than losing three starting defensive lineman? Not obtaining any throughout the offseason or draft. They added Justin Blackmon who is finally back from suspension, Vincent Rey and Erin Henderson at linebacker and Husain Abdullah, who they needed at safety. Matt Ryan will have a break with an easy strength-of-schedule this year, but we do not see them returning to the playoffs this year.
Prediction: 4th in NFC South

Key Losses: SS Roman Harper, DE Jared Allen, FB Mike Tolbert
Key Additions: DE Derrick Shelby
Key Potential Rookies: SS Carlos Johnson, DE Shaynon Hull
2015-16 Record: 10-6 (1st Place in NFC South)
Strength of Schedule: 0.500
2016-17 Season Trend: Positive
Season Preview: The Panthers were smart and decided not to change much after their successful season last year. They added defensive end Derrick Shelby to their defensive line after the retirement of Jared Allen. The rookie Carlos Johnson out of Auburn will be replacing Roman Harper and seems to be promising. The Panthers can only improve from last year, especially with an easy strength-of-schedule.
Prediction: 1st in NFC South

Key Losses: OT Zach Strief, DT Kevin Williams, DT John Jenkins, OLB Dannell Ellerbe
Key Additions: DT Haloti Ngata, FS Rodney McLeod Jr, OG Carl Nicks, OG Andrew Gardner, DE Cedric Thornton
Key Potential Rookies: OLB Jaylon Gordon, DT Delvin Timmons
2015-16 Record: 8-8 (3rd Place in NFC South)
Strength of Schedule: 0.484
2016-17 Season Trend: Positive
Season Preview: This could be Drew Brees’ last run at a Super Bowl. The Saints had a great offseason bringing back Carl Nicks and adding Andrew Gardner to bolster the offensive line. Their defense should heavily improve with the additions of Haloti Ngata and Rodney McLeod, Jr. Although we believe this team can make the playoffs in other divisions, this division seems to be too competitive, so we do not believe they can make the playoffs.
Prediction: 3rd in NFC South

NFC West

Key Losses: DE Darnell Dockett, FS Rashad Johnson, TE Jermaine Gresham, OLB Dwight Freeney
Key Additions: OG Evan Mathis, OLB Shaquil Barrett, SS Duke Ihenacho
Key Potential Rookies: SS Ryan Scott, TE Zach Rice
2015-16 Record: 5-11 (4th in NFC West)
Strength of Schedule: 0.485
2016-17 Season Trend: Positive
Season Preview: The Cardinals had a very disappointing season last year after seeming to have an excellent roster all throughout. This seems to probably not change as their first round overall 5th draft pick is now a free agent. DE A.J. McCain did not perform well at all in preseason and had a physical altercation in a meeting with both the general manager and owner. He has been released and most likely has ended his NFL career. We hope it does not translate to the type of season the Cardinals will have, but most likely it will be dismal.
Prediction: 3rd in NFC West

Key Losses: WR Anquan Boldin, WR Torrey Smith, OG Alex Boone, QB Blaine Gabbert
Key Additions: DT Phil Taylor, TE Jermichael Finley, MLB Zach Brown, TE Dwayne Allen, FB Mike Tolbert, WR Hakeem Nicks, WR Robert Meachem
Key Potential Rookies: WR Griffin Hopkins, WR Ethan Weatherford, C Skylar Blake
2015-16 Record: 7-9 (2nd in NFC West)
Strength of Schedule: 0.501
2016-17 Season Trend: Neutral
Season Preview: : Somehow the 49ers management were able to sign Jermichael Finley after his long absence from the NFL. It’s also worth noting he’s looking like his old self. Other than Phil Taylor and Finley, the 49ers did not really make key signings in the offseason. They seemed to have a great draft in return though, getting two promising receivers for Kaepernick. We don’t see the 49ers doing any better than last year.
Prediction: 4th in NFC West

Key Losses: DT Michael Brockers, FS Rodney McLeod Jr., CB Janoris Jenkins, WR Brian Quick, MLB James Laurinaitis, CB Trumaine Johnson
Key Additions: DT Jaye Howard, QB Sam Bradford, WR Josh Gordon, WR Rishard Matthews, C J.C. Tretter, OG Vladimir Ducasse, MLB Jasper Brinkley, FS Antonio Allen
Key Potential Rookies: OLB Hunter Hudson, TE Terrance Griffin, CB Rashad McClain
2015-16 Record: 7-9 (3rd in NFC West)
Strength of Schedule: 0.489
2016-17 Season Trend: Neutral
Season Preview: The Rams’ offseason was quite busy with the loss of six starters and the signing of eight potential starters. They also have three rookies who plan to be the future at their positions for this franchise. Although Sam Bradford is back and will be their starter again, it’s safe to say that he will be injured and Nick Foles will be the eventual starter. We believe the Rams’ D will be able to carry them some, but they will not do great. Although we predict a second place finish in the division, most likely they will not have a great record.
Prediction: 2nd in NFC West

Key Losses: OT Russell Okung, C Patrick Lewis, OG J.R. Sweezy, DT Brandon Mebane, DT Ahtyba Rubin, OT Alvin Bailey, HB Thomas Rawls, WR Jermaine Kearse
Key Additions: WR Jarrett Boykin, OLB Lance Briggs, CB Brandon Flowers
Key Potential Rookies: C Justin Gordon, FS Shaheen Jennings
2015-16 Record: 13-3 (1st in NFC West)
Strength of Schedule: 0.500
2016-17 Season Trend: Negative
Season Preview: Congratulations again to the Super Champion Seattle Seahawks. We bet they did not see practically their entire offensive line leave for free agency, leaving Russell Wilson defenseless. Okung, Lewis, Sweezy and Bailey. Not to mention the loss of their future starter Thomas Rawls and Jermaine Kearse. They had a few veteran additions in Briggs and Flowers, as well as Jarrett Boykin to replace Kearse. Although there is no offensive line for Russell Wilson, he’s still one of the best quarterbacks in the league with receivers who can make plays, including the return of Jimmy Graham and arguably the best defense in the NFL to back him up.
Prediction: 1st in NFC West

Re: Do Your Job: Life After Brady & Belichick | A Patriots Franchise

Nice job on the preview. That must've taken a lot if work.

What the heck happened to my Jets this offseason! Oh well, been looking forward to seeing a Brady-less Pats for some time now, good luck with it.

Yes it did, thank you. I've decided to just take my time on this and get a bit detailed each week. I've compiled a ton of data and analyzed it to get stats that I believe are important or that I like to see. I'm still debating between adding a Week 1 Preview with predictions or just get right into it week by week without a preview.

Game Injuries: ARI - HB David Johnson - Ruptured Disk (2 Weeks)
Post-Game Analysis: This was a great kickoff to the new season. This game was a tale of two quarters, specifically in the first half. The first quarter was all Arizona and David Johnson. DJ ran for two touchdowns in one quarter against one of the best defenses in the NFL, but he suffered a ruptured disk and was declared out for the rest of the game. Once the Cardinals lost Johnson, the tides turned instantly in the second quarter. Russell Wilson turned on the jets throwing for two touchdowns against the Arizona Isle (Mathieu and Peterson at CB). Once the second half started, it was all defense from both sides of the field, leaving Seattle and the 12th man the winner. There may have been a difference if David Johnson wasn't hurt so early. We will see if David Johnson can repeat himself again against the Seahawks in week 3.

Post-Game Analysis: This game showed us an improved Detroit Lions team from being the worst last year and a deteriorating Philadelphia Eagles team. New head coach Demetrius Turner (DET) implemented his power run scheme with the two-headed dragon of C.J. Anderson and Theo Riddick, resulting in two touchdowns and over 130 yards between the two. The way both the offense and defense of Detroit played was similar to Seattle’s team from the past couple years. The defense swarmed both quarterbacks from Philly, totaling three sacks. Ansah hit Manuel hard on the 1st sack, resulting in a concussion for E.J. Colt McCoy stepped in and did not do much better. The only reason the Eagles put up points was because of DeMarco Murray, who also had two touchdowns. Darius Slay picked off each quarterback once for a total of two interceptions, and Detroit’s pass defense held Philadelphia to under 150 total passing yards. We are not sure if Detroit is really this good or if Philadelphia is just this bad?

Game Injuries: DAL – WR Terrance Williams – Dislocated Ankle (7 Weeks)
Post-Game Analysis: Green Bay completely dominated Dallas in Captain Kirk’s home opener. This game was all Green Bay as the score indicates. The last time Dallas lost by 24+ points at home was 10 years ago against the Saints, where they lost 42-17. Green Bay’s offense was stout and the addition of Chris Ivory really showed this game, where he ran and received for 50+ yards each. The run game was strong and Aaron Rodgers played like his normal self, throwing for four touchdowns. Kirk Cousins showed a small glimpse of what he can be, but he seemed too conservative throughout this game. When your team is down early and the run game is not working, you need to step up and make some big plays. The only big play he had was a 20-yard touchdown to Terrance Williams, who is now hurt for 7 weeks. We had no idea why Dez Bryant was rarely used when he is your big playmaker. Hopefully Kirk can step it up next week against the Bears and their upcoming rookie Mathew Huval.

Post-Game Analysis: It only took one quarter to make Mathew Huval the future of Chicago. There wasn’t much going on in this game throughout the first three quarters. Eli had one touchdown and one interception, and Cutler was doing absolutely nothing all game until a JPP hit dislocated his knee. This put Mathew Huval in the game and he did not disappoint. Being down 5 points in the 4th quarter, it only took Huval 12 pass attempts to do what Cutler could not do in his 32 pass attempts. He drove down the field each drive and threw for two touchdowns after Kevin White went down. We believe Huval will take over while Cutler is down, especially with the Cowboys next week who got destroyed against Green Bay this week. Scouts have said he could be the next Peyton Manning, since coming out of Tennessee with his high upside.

Post-Game Analysis: Rex Ryan kept his run game strong and the Bills held off the 2015 Regular Season MVP. The Bills seem to have a consistent two-headed dragon at running back at all times. LeSean McCoy and Karlos Williams totaled for 150 yards and two touchdowns. The Bills D and run game backed up Tyrod Taylor who had a sub-par game. Preston Brown picked off reigning MVP Andy Dalton twice and supplemented that with eight tackles. Andy Dalton tried coming back in the fourth quarter, but could not drive down the field close enough for a field goal and was pressured into an interception to end the game. This game showed us that the Bills D went from great to elite. They held off the reigning MVP and a team that won fourteen games last year when their quarterback was almost inexistent.

Post-Game Analysis: Patriots rookie QB Johnathon James shines in opener over Flacco’s odd game. This was an old fashion shootout between James and Flacco. James lead the league in passing yards this week with 401. He also spread the ball around resulting in four different players receiving for 70+ yards. The pivotal moment in the game was James driving the ball 80 yards and throwing for a touchdown with 2 minutes left on the clock, eventually winning the game. On the other hand, the run game was prevalent for the Ravens, with Forsett running for 83 yards and Flacco rushing for…. more. Flacco ran for 92 yards with a 77 yard rushing touchdown after faking the entire Patriots defense with a bootleg. The addition of receiver Corey Russell in the draft sparked the Ravens offense with 71 receiving yards and also the addition of Roddy White has seemed to revive his career, catching for over 100 yards. Although the Patriots were the winners, Flacco received the AFC Player of the Week honors with his prevalent run game.

Post-Game Analysis: Tannehill looks sharp against another lowly Cleveland team. We are not sure why the Browns didn’t select a quarterback with one of their two first round picks, oh wait it’s the Browns that’s why. It showed this game with Manziel getting hurt in the 3rd quarter and Austin Davis doing absolutely nothing, which will be the case for the next seven weeks. Ryan Tannehill had a great game throwing and rushing for one touchdown each. With the addition of Rawls and AlMo (Alfred Morris), they really need to implement a run-heavy offense this year to complement their excellent defense, especially with no quarterback. Although Tannehill looked fine, the Dolphins only won by 7 when the Browns did hardly anything on offense. They need to take a more aggressive passing approach. Lamar Miller ran for 90+ yards and a touchdown, but was not utilized much in the passing game where he can really shine.

Post-Game Analysis: Luck steps it up as Forte goes down. The big story of this game is the injury to newly acquired Matt Forte. The 30 year-old suffered a broken tailbone after rushing for only five attempts. We have reports that he will be out for at least nine weeks. Reggie Bush will take his place as starter, and he stepped up this game rushing for 67 yards and a touchdown. Andrew Luck had himself a game throwing for over 250 yards and a touchdown, adding an additional rushing touchdown on top of that. The Jags seem to just have coaching issues as Blake Bortles was having a great game, throwing for 205 yards and two touchdowns, but they relied too heavily on the run game. When the pass game is working, especially against Luck, you utilize it. We were surprised that Gus Bradley was not fired last year from the 5-10-1 record, but if they falter again this year, we can see Bradley getting the boot. It is also worth noting that this was Ray Rice’s first game back since being cut by the Ravens, and he did not have that bad of a game for the limited carries he was given.

Post-Game Analysis: Matt Ryan and the Falcons crush the Buccaneers in all-out offensive effort. Matt Ryan looked like the Matt we knew when they were making playoff runs. He spread the ball around to eight different players throwing for three touchdowns and almost 300 yards. Some new faces in Atlanta shined as well. Justin Blackmon has made his return to the NFL, not shying away at all getting a touchdown in his first game back. Bilal Powell also made some plays, rushing for 52 yards and a touchdown, as well as receiving for a touchdown. Jameis Winston had a good game in his sophomore opener, throwing for two touchdowns, but under 200 yards. New head coach Dan Golden did not try to make any big plays on offense where you have a Winston and three reeceivers at 6’5” or taller that can get up there and make a play. Winston was accurate, but not throwing for over 200 yards when down the entire game, there’s an issue there. There wasn’t even a sack recorded from either side in this game, so not being pressured they should have taken some chances.

Game Injuries: STL – QB Sam Bradford – Ruptured Disk (7 Weeks), NYJ – TE Jace Amaro – Dislocated Ankle (4 Weeks)
Post-Game Analysis: Shocker in Jets vs. Rams game, Bradford gets hurt… oh wait. For some reason Jeff Fisher has this insatiable appetite for keeping Sam Bradford, similar to Michael Scott and his relationship with the temp Ryan Howard (The Office reference). He got hurt from a Sheldon Richardson sack and suffered a ruptured disk, allowing Nick Foles to once again become the starter for at least the first half of the season. E.J. Gaines picked off rookie Thomas Martin four times, something that hasn’t been done since DeAngelo Hall did it to Cutler in 2010. Welcome to the NFL, rookie. Todd Gurley helped the Rams overcome the Bradford injury rushing for two touchdowns. Newly acquired and reinstated Josh Gordon had a good game having six receptions and 70 yards. Todd Bowles decided to let his future franchise quarterback Thomas Martin throw for 43 attempts, resulting in one touchdown and four interceptions. With rookie running back Tyri Alexander only getting 15 attempts, we think the Jets should go back to a run heavy offense utilizing the run and gun game.

Post-Game Analysis: 49ers pull out a win with consistent running game. Jim Tomsula had his Niners run the ball a total of 53 times for 285 yards and two touchdowns. It shows major trust when you keep running the ball only up 2 points to end the game. Both Carlos Hyde and Kaep Attack ran for over 100 yards each. It is worth noting that Kaepernick threw for under 100 yards and still won the game. The defense stepped up and picked off Bridgewater twice. Teddy did spread the ball around connecting with nine different receivers. McKinnon took charge of the run game scoring two touchdowns while Peterson went down with a groin injury. We don’t think the 49ers can keep winning with this style of play unless their defense can keep it up like this game every game.

Post-Game Analysis: The Steelers hold off a Redskins comeback to sneak a win on the road. It was interesting to see how the new look Redskins would do against a playoff-tier team. Brock looked sharp and Ahmad Bradshaw turned back the clock, rushing for over 100 yards and a touchdown. The only interesting thing in this game was that how the tight end was rarely utilized when you have a talented Jordan Reed on the team. Big Ben and Le’Veon Bell had great games whereas Antonio Brown had a sub-par game for his standards. The o-line seemed to protect Big Ben better than usual giving him more time in the pocket, despite giving up three sacks. Steelers rookie corner Aundre Jones had a great game leading the team with 8 tackles. All in all, Washington looked good against a tough Steelers team, and we’re excited to see how well they can do compared to last year.

Post-Game Analysis: Blaine Gabbert silences the critics in win over the Chargers. He seemed comfortable in the pocket throwing for 200 yards and a touchdown, also adding another rushing touchdown, being accountable for all 21 points in their win. Von Miller also helped on defense recording three sacks on Philip Rivers and pressuring him all game, resulting in an interception as well. It was an odd game knowing Antonio Gates will not be a part of this organization any longer, but Ladarius Green made a statement tonight telling the fans of San Diego he is the new Gates. Green had 153 yards and a touchdown and was the only real consistent piece on offense in this game. Once again, Melvin Gordon could not find the endzone, giving fans optimism on whether he really is the future of their running game.

Post-Game Analysis: Titans win in rematch of AFC South title game against Texans. If you tuned in to this game, you really didn’t watch much. It was all defense despite the Titans scoring 21 points. All quarterbacks threw for under 150 yards and the unfortunate news for the Texans is that Ryan Fitzpatrick got injured with a ruptured disk, and will be out for at least the next 8 weeks. The 2015-16 Rookie of the Year did not impress only throwing for 133 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Charles Sims III was the only sign of life for the Titans rushing for 80 yards and one touchdown. The Texans are now stuck under Brandon Weeden for the next 8 weeks, so we believe the Texans are doomed for the year, which puts the Titans and Colts as the most hopeful to win the division. Foster had a great game and looks healthy finally, so they move to a run-heavy offense.

Post-Game Analysis: Brees and Ingram shine in win over the reigning NFC South Champions. It seems new coach Chuck Pagano knows how to utilize his offense and seems to have made his defense better than the last 5 years as well. Brees did not have to do much in this game, although he did throw two touchdowns, both to Willie Snead. Mark Ingram showed why he won the Heisman trophy rushing for over 100 yards and a touchdown. Cam Newton played well, but could not keep up with the Saints’ quick scoring. The Carolina defense actually showed some holes for once in this game, not adjusting after the half and allowing a total of 38 points. It will be interesting to see how Carolina retaliates in their next meeting.

Post-Game Analysis: Chiefs make their case for the Super Bowl early with domination over Oakland. Alex Smith was absolutely on fire with his 277 yard, four touchdown performance. Albert Wilson came out of nowhere with nine receptions for 81 yards and two touchdowns. The defense was also on par only allowing Derek Carr to throw for 130 yards and one interception, also recording 3 sacks. The Raiders looked lost in this game, not being to capitalize on 3rd downs and not holding on to the ball for long only allowing Carr to throw for 19 attempts. The Chiefs look to roll on next week while the Raiders look for some answers.
