UConn would be my guess where he is going. But an offer from WVU is pretty big. They like to use small backs and make them top players. Noel Devine and Travon Austin are prime examples. They could make a late push to steal him away.

Re: Small Body, Big Heart - The Career of Sam Pellegrini

Sam rolled over and let out a deep breath, inhaled deeply, then let out another breath.

Brittany put her right arm across his chest, wiggled herself closer then rested her head on him.

“Least that’s one good thing ‘bout your moms working so much.” She said looking up at him with a smile.

Sam smirked back then kissed her on the forehead.

They lay like that for quite some time, enjoying the silence and each other.

Eventually Brittany spoke. “So you think about schools more?”

“A little.”

“And?” She asked, knowing she would have to pry any details out of him.

“I guess I’m leaning towards UConn some.” He said, not sure if it was entirely true.

“How come?”

“Well…” He paused. “They have a good program. Coach Pasqualoni seems good. Good education. Plus it’s only like an hour away.”

“Ain’t they just get smoked by Syracuse last week?”

“Uh… yeah I guess.”

She looked at with raised eyebrows.

“You know you gonna have to decide eventually.” She said as she gave him a quick kiss. “You hungry?”

“You know it.”

Brittany got up to get food while Sam flipped on the television.

He thought about UConn while he laid there. He liked how close it was to home or at least how close it was to Brittany and his mom. He tried to think of something else he liked. Most things he was indifferent on. Eventually, after deciding he didn’t want to think about it anymore tonight, he let out a sigh and turned his attention to the t.v.

By then Brittany had returned with food.

“Put it on 13, they supposed to be talking about the playoff games now.” She said, pointing to the remote.

Sam made the switch just in time to see that they were predicting a 28-14 Central win and that he was listed as a key player.

“Damn right you a key player baby!” She said with a fake sassiness before she started laughing.

“That wasn’t that funny.” Sam replied, laughing as much at her as he was with her.

Brittany threw a pillow at him then tackled him onto the bed.

Bristol Central handles West Haven, advances to second round

West Haven (8-2) 20, Bristol Central (10-0) 35

Bristol -
Sam Pellegrini was as advertised as he racked up over 350 all purpose yards and had a part in four of Bristol Central’s five touchdowns in a 35-20 defeat of West Haven.

Pellegrini threw his first touchdown pass of the season on Bristol’s first drive. After a pair of very successful runs out of the Wildcat formation Pellegrini took a jab step then lofted a pass to the left corner of the endzone to a wide open teammate.

“It felt pretty good. Guessing the pass didn’t look so good but it got us six so that’s the important part I guess.” Pellegrini said about the play after the game.

Pellegrini added two rushing touchdowns and a receiving touchdown in the win.

Bristol Central advances to the second round where they will have to travel to Torrington. Torrington also finished 10-0 and after a coin flip they will host the game. Torrington and Bristol Central have not played since 2010.

Aside from the game action many people noticed a number of college scouts. Most notably were representatives from Oregon and North Carolina, along with the usual group that have been following Pellegrini these last several weeks.

Pellegrini would not comment on the scouts in attendance or where he intends to play in 2013.

Re: Small Body, Big Heart - The Career of Sam Pellegrini

Sam found himself once again pouring over the stack of letters from various schools all over the place. The offers from further away than the Northeast had started to pour in, causing Sam additional stress as he thought about moving across the country.

Someone at school told him Rivals.com recently moved him up to the 34th best player in the nation. It was all a little overwhelming if he thought about it too much.

"Maybe you can at least get rid of a few?" Brittany asked as she looked up from her homework.

"Yeah..." He thought about it for a second. "I really should."

"So how 'bout I'll take the letters, I tell you the school and you say in, out or maybe."

"That's a good plan. Let's do that."

Brittany scooped up the stack of letters, straightened them out and started reading them off. After running through the entire pile Sam had eliminated more than half of the schools, mostly due to being a smaller school that was too far away. If he was moving halfway across the country or more it was to play at a big school.

“How many?” He asked.

“Uhh…” She counted. “Nine left.”

“Wow.”

"You feel better 'bout it now?"

Sam thought for a second.

"Yeah. I do. A lot better actually. Maybe we should go through again and try to get down to like six or so?"

"Yeah? You want to now or think on it?"

"Let's do it now."

“Ok. Boston College.”

“Keep.”

“West Virginia.”

“How far again?”

“About like a eight hour drive.”

“Too far. Out.”

“Buffalo?”

“That’s like six hours?”

“Yeah.”

“Let’s put that one away.”

“Alright. UConn and UMass stay right?”

“Yeah.”

“Iowa?”

“Ummm…”

“That’s like a 15 hour drive plus it’s ****in’ Iowa.”

“Yeah, but it’s the Big 10.”

“Do that really matter though?”

“Well it’s probably the biggest school I’ve got an offer from.”

“K we’ll keep them in then. Temple?”

“In.

“Oregon. That’s like the complete opposite side of the country you know.”

“Yeah but it’s Oregon. I don’t have an offer yet so we’ll keep that one and see.”

“Right. Last one is Louisville.”

“That’s almost as far as Iowa isn’t it?”

“A lil’ closer but still far.”

“Out.”

“K. That’s it. We down to six schools.”

“That feels good.”

“I bet it does.”

“What do I tell the ones we cut out?”

“You just send ‘em a letter an’ tell ‘em you ain’t interested and thank ‘em.”

“Well I guess I should get typing.”

Brittany went back to her school work while Sam started typing. He felt like a huge weight was off his shoulders after cutting down the number of schools.
