Season Update: The Decision

Joyner, who ran for 47 yards and a touchdown in the UA All-USA game, chose Georgia as his collegiate destination.
T.J. Joyner, No. 3 ranked running back, commits to Georgia
Bishop Gorman product chooses championship-bound Georgia over Alabama, LSU, Auburn, and Oklahoma.

Jan. 2, 2016

The third-ranked running back in the ESPN 300, T.J. Joyner, committed to Georgia before the 2016 Under Armour All-USA game on Saturday.

The 6-foot-2, 235-pound running back from Bishop Gorman High School (Las Vegas, Nev.), who rushed for 2,279 yards and 27 touchdowns in his senior year, chose the BCS championship-bound Bulldogs over Alabama, LSU, Auburn, and Oklahoma.

“It was a difficult decision,” Joyner said. “Plenty of my nights were spent overthinking and weighing every single option. This is my future, so I didn’t want to make the wrong choice.”

Georgia’s running backs core features a four-man rotation headlining star Nick Chubb and Keith Marshall. However, with Chubb attracting heavy NFL interest and Marshall entering his final year of eligibility next season, the spot will presumably open up to Joyner if he performs up to expectations.

“They’re doing great things in Athens and I think I could be a good fit,” Joyner said. “I look at Chubb – or just Coach Richt’s offense in general – and it’s a lot of similarities in our styles.”

Joyner had previously committed to Texas A&M mid-September but backed off just a month later after the school reportedly expressed interest to use Joyner, an athlete on some sites, as a linebacker.

The 33rd-ranked player in the country becomes Georgia’s 16th verbal commitment, nine of whom are ranked in the ESPN 300, as Georgia’s class currently sits atop the nation’s rankings.

He will face some tough D in the SEC but when he gets his chance behind Chubb and Marhsall I expect him to do well

Yeah I ran him way too much early in the year; had three straight +35 carry games because I didn't yet understand the Auto Subs, plus we played a lot of games (16).

Definitely looking forward to Georgia!

Very excited about playing in the SEC. The whole objective of this dynasty was to ultimately play dynasty mode with a good power conference school and Georgia is an almost perfect option as they come off a national championship.

Joyner should fare well, too. We'll have to wait and see

That is a nice class for UGA. What did the class end up ranked? What position are the other ATH's playing?

they really brought in a factory, should make winning some more titles easy. Smart is a QB/WR, Lumpkin can play almost any defensive position, Coleman is CB/HB

I actually played both Smart (Bosco) and Coleman (IMG) in the high school portion.
