Re: Teamwork, a Tradition | Navy Midshipmen Dynasty

ESPN: This just in, starting Navy quarterback, Keenan Reynolds has been sidelined indefinitely with a torn pectoral muscle. Speculations are that Reynolds was injured in the first game of the season and ignored the safety protocol and went on to play Connecticut furthering injuring his body. College football analyst, Kirk Herbstreit is beside me and I just want to ask Kirk, will this effect the Midshipmen in a negative way? Because right now with the new head coach they are playing some solid football.

Kirk: Well in my honest opinion this is indeed going to hurt the Midshipmen because you have backup quarterback, Tago Smith and he has never taken reps in an actual game before. Sure there is practice, but you can't replicate game speed to practice. Also it's a rough time to get thrown into the lion's den when you have Ohio State coming to Maryland.

ESPN: I agree and we can't forget to mention that Keenan Reynolds already had 207 yards and one touchdown on the ground and 200 yards through the air, along with two touchdowns. This type of player is huge for the Midshipmen.

Kirk: Absolutely. So now does Navy just run the ball with their B-back or do they still try to execute the option with Smith under center. We will find out what they do later down the road.

ESPN: Thank you for your time Kirk.

Ohio State Too Much for Smith and Midshipmen. Dominate 31-13.

The Midshipmen hosted the Ohio State Buckeyes today in Annapolis, Maryland. There was a solid crowd rooting for the Midshipmen today. It was a nice sunny day, not too hot, and definitely not too cold. The only thing that was cold was the Midshipmen's offense. Keenan Reynolds was spotted on the sideline with an injury. Tago Smith, his backup started for him today and every time Smith came off the field it looked like Keenan Reynolds was helping him on his reads. But not even the man himself was able to coach Smith into a win. Ohio State led a balanced attack which devastated the Midshipmen's defense and led them to a 31-13 win in Maryland. The good news is, the Midshipmen held Ezekiel Elliot to 64 yards on 14 carries. But Cardale Jones lit up the Midshipmen defense with 7 CAR, 110 yards and 248 yards through the air.

Around the NCAA Week 3

UPSETS
Kent State embarrasses LSU in Louisiana, 27-17. Don't let the score fool you, Kent State out gained LSU in total offense 389-298. They couldn't be stopped on 3rd down converting on 75% of their 3rd down opportunities. LSU threw the ball 22 times and only completed a staggering 9 passes for 63 yards.

Tennessee manages to beat Oregon 28-24 in the Autzen Zoo. Tennessee's secondary was able to hold Oregon's passing game in check as Oregon quarterback, Vernon Adams only completed 40% of his passes and was intercepted once. The run defense of the Volunteers was able to only hold Oregon to 209 yards on the ground. Oregon's defense came to play as well as they held Tennessee to less than 50% completions and only held Tennessee to 211 yards on the ground. The only difference was Tennessee's 4 touchdowns in the redzone to Oregon's 3 touchdowns in the rezone.

Texas Dominates SEC's Ole Miss, 31-12. Texas came to play as they out gained Ole Miss 403-276 in total yards of offense.Tyrone Swoopes completed 54% of his passes as he threw for 2 TD's and 1 INT. Johnathan Gray ran the ball 13 times for 93 yards and adding a touchdown to his name and Chris Warren ran the ball 12 times for 79 yards.

We are still early into the season as there are 32 teams that are still undefeated through week 3.

Defeats

This is one of the biggest upsets of the college football season! Colorado State defeats Nick Saban's Alabama Crimson Tide in overtime 34-31. No one saw this coming and no one could have even predicted it! We caught up with Colorado State coach and he was jubilant. Words couldn't even come out of his mouth. We saw his dark green shirt that was drenched with Gatorade as he was hugging his players. Colorado State came to play as they went up early on the Crimson Tide 14-0. Alabama then tied the game up to 14 at halftime. Alabama finally settled down and took a 28-21 lead and held onto that lead until there was 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter and Colorado State scored. 28-28 and the game went into overtime. Colorado State kicked a field goal to go up 31-28. Alabama settled for a field goal. Alabama started with the ball, Coker dropped back and tried to force the ball to the on a quick slant to Ardarius Stewart but the Junior, Kevin Davis was sitting in his zone and got the interception. Colorado State kicked the game winning field goal and stormed the field in Tuscaloosa. Fans were stunned. The cameras followed the Crimson Tide back to their locker rooms as they looked stunned and some players walked with their heads down.

SURPRISES

Clemson is sitting at 1-2 to start the season. Experts picked Clemson to dominate the ACC this season but an opening day lost to Georgia and a 28-21 defeat by North Carolina State has fans scratching their heads. Clemson just hasn't been able to run the ball like they want to. Against Georgia they ran the ball 33 times for only 84 yards and against North Carolina State they ran the ball 40 times for 168 yards.

Kent State is 3-1. Why are we mentioning Kent State? It's because of the teams they've beaten. They upset LSU and now they're coming off of a 24-10 win against Penn State. They out gained LSU 389-298 in total offense and get this. They out gained Penn State 412-190! They led a run oriented attack as they ran the ball 51 times for 252 yards. They threw for 173 yards as well. Their defense is getting it done as well. Penn State ran the ball 20 times for a whopping 48 yards. Can Kent State keep this up?

Around the NCAA Week 5

VS

Georgia Tech took on Virginia Tech in Bobby Dodd stadium in the annual "Battle of the Techs". Georgia Tech is coached by Paul Johnson who you could consider the Godfather of the flexbone offense. But Virginia Tech has always caused Paul some problems and the problems didn't stop tonight as Virginia Tech hands Georgia tech their first loss of the 2015 season, 31-21. Georgia Tech started off the game hot by taking a 14-0 nothing lead in the first quarter. Georgia Tech then went up 21-0 in the second quarter. Georgia Tech got too comfortable at that point and never seemed to regain that drive they had. Virginia Tech went on to score 31 unanswered points on their way to a victory. Virginia Tech held their own against the flexbone as they held Georgia Tech to only 229 yards on the night. We caught up with Paul Johnson and here's what he had to say on that performance.

Paul: When it comes to this offense it's all about read and react. I saw times when we were in an unbalanced set and there were no linebackers in the box. I expect the quarterback to audible to a dive play. We were blocking well all night, that's going for at least 20 yards. We can't win if the players aren't making the right adjustments.

GAME OF THE WEEK

VS

Many people are calling this game a preview of the SEC championship. Both teams are the leaders of their conference and both teams have shown no signs of slowing down. Georgia always has a stout defense and they're built to run the ball. LSU is the same styled team so we were expecting a physical game the entire 60 minutes. And the fans weren't disappointed. The pads were popping all night, mainly LSU's offensive linemen's pads were popping as they ran the ball for 299 yards on the stout Georgia 3-4 defense. Leonard Fournette stole the show as he ran the ball 21 times for 154 yards and a fantastic 7.3 YPC. He also broke 4 tackles. The crazy thing is, he had no touchdowns this game. Georgia ran the ball for only 134 yards but threw the ball for 248 yards and 2 touchdowns. But it wasn't enough as LSU came away with a 27-17 win in Sanford Stadium.

Notre Dame hands Oklahoma their first loss of the season 28-17.

Absolutely. Hopefully Tago can get it together for the Midshipmen or our season can go south in a heartbeat.

WEEK 6 PREVIEW

VS

The first game of the Commander in Chief trophy series takes place in Maryland. The Midshipmen will be taking on the Air Force Falcons who currently leads the NCAA in rushing yards. Navy had two consecutive bye weeks after losing to Ohio State so it's safe to say that they can't wait to get back on the field. Two weeks without having a game worked out well for Smith as Coach Moore was able to discuss film with them and to help him get adjusted. He's the starter until Reynolds gets back. Air Force is led by Jacobi Owens. He already has over 600 yards on the ground for the Falcons. The Midshipmen have had a hard time stopping anything defensively this season and the task just got more difficult.
