Rams Eke Out A Win Over Free-Falling Giants

Better late than never: Against the New York Giants at the UK’s Twickenham Stadium, the Los Angeles Rams never held a lead until it mattered most. On the kickoff after Greg Zuerlein’s fifth field goal of the game trimmed New York’s lead to 17-15 with 8:09 to go, Bobby Rainey lost a fumble that was recovered by the Rams at the 26. The turnover was converted into LA’s only TD of the game, a 7 yard toss from Case Keenum to rookie tight end Tyler Higbee. Los Angeles then held off a late push by the G-Men- with just over a minute to go, on 4th and goal from the 16, Roger Lewis’ diving catch came 2 yards short of a go-ahead score. On the play after the turnover on downs, Benny Cunningham dug the Rams out with an 11 yard run, after which the Giants expended their final time out and the Rams ran out the clock on a much-needed win that improved their record to 3-4. It was the third consecutive loss for New York following a 3-1 start.

The bad news is that the victory was without significant cost. Four Rams left the game with what appear to be multi-week injuries- Alec Ogletree (hip), Coty Sensabaugh (wrist), T.J. McDonald (groin) and C.J. Spiller (elbow). Spiller’s injury is likely to instigate a roster move that will bring second year man Malcolm Brown up from the practice squad, and the further diminishment of the Rams’ running game may provide the final impetus for a QB change. With a 1-2 TD-INT ratio and a passer rating of 70.1, Keenum did little to help his case for remaining the starter despite making the game-winning throw. Jared Goff can make throws that Kennum can’t, at least when he’s not faced with a collapsing pocket. It may be time to put his improved confidence and competence with running the LA offense in practice to a live-fire test.

Seahawks Seize Division Lead In OT Desert Duel

Despite the stakes in Sunday night’s battle for the undisputed lead in the NFC West, at times it seemed like a game nobody wanted to win. The Seattle Seahawks failed to score an offensive touchdown, instead scoring on a Kam Chancellor pick-six and on a fake field goal, while the Arizona Cardinals didn’t find the end zone until they needed it most in regulation. Steven Hauschka’s trick play touchdown pass to Jimmy Graham gave Seattle an 11 point lead with 8 and a half minutes left in the 4th quarter, but the Cards erased that deficit in the last four minutes of regulation. Following his 4 yard TD toss to Larry Fitzgerald, Carson Palmer found Jermaine Gresham for the 2 point conversion that tied the score at 17 with 2 ticks to spare. In overtime, each team blew a chance for the sudden death win before the affair was finally settled just 1:11 short of a deadlock. After a Hauschka field goal attempt was blocked, Arizona got into field goal range, but Bruce Arians decided to try to get a TD before being forced to turn to Chandler Catanzaro for a game-winning kick. Unfortunately for Arians and his Redbirds, Palmer was picked off by Chancellor a second time, after which the Seahawks maneuvered into position for Hauschka’s second chance at a walk-off. This time Hauschka delivered, giving the Seahawks their fourth straight win at University of Phoenix Stadium and moving them from a half-game behind Arizona into a half-game lead.

Everything is still rolling along really nicely. I really like the stats you're coming away with, though maybe need to be like Wal-Mart and rollback the INJ slider after the massacre across the pond!

Re: California Dreamin'

Goff To Start vs. Panthers

The Los Angeles brain trust has decided that the Rams’ Jared Goff era will begin in Week 9, when LA will be hosting the Carolina Panthers following a Week 8 bye. Head coach Jeff Fisher had earlier expressed reluctance to play Goff unless a game was out of hand or if the Rams became mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. The Rams have been in every game the past few weeks and there’s a viable argument they should be 5-2 instead of 3-4 with Case Keenum at the helm. Although it would be a tough row to hoe for LA to go from 3-4 to a postseason berth, especially with losses to division rivals Arizona and Seattle, the Rams are theoretically still in contention. But while Keenum hasn’t been terrible, his play has not been at the level of a franchise QB, and it appears that the point of “nothing to lose” by playing Goff has been reached. With the contact extensions of Fisher and GM Les Snead currently on hold, and with Goff becoming more and more confident and competent with running the Rams’ offense in practice, it’s been deemed time to give Goff a chance to demonstrate what prompted the pair to bet the farm on him. Injuries in the LA backfield have also played a factor in the decision, and with the bye week there is no better time for Goff to start getting all of the first team reps in practice. You can also count on the coaching staff having noticed the production Carson Wentz has been generating despite having seen very little preseason action.

Injury slider is only on 50 or 51. I think were just had an unlucky day there.
