FALCONS GROUNDED
Marquis Goodwin runs through a gigantic hole as he takes it to the house.

Buffalo, NY (AP) - The Buffalo Bills leaned on their defense and special teams to erase an early two touchdown deficit to defeat the Atlanta Falcons 38-24 at Wegman's Field on Sunday afternoon. The win was the Bills fourth straight and moved them to (6-1) and atop the AFC after seven weeks.
Stephon Gilmore picks off this errand Matt Ryan pass and returns it 79 yards for a score. On Sunday afternoon the Bills defense scored twice and Marquis Goodwin return a kickoff for another touchdown as the league's top rated offense was held to a season low 270 yards.
Atlanta (3-4) came out on fire, scoring touchdown on their opening two possession and going through the Bills defense like a hot knife through butter. The opening offensive play for the Falcons was a 51 yard catch and run by tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz. The quick, three-play drive ended with a Matt Ryan to Julio Jones six yard touchdown pass. After a Bills three and out, Cameron Brate capped the Falcons second drive with a one-yard touchdown reception to put the Falcons up 14-0 just six minutes into the game.
The Bills finally settled down and put together a 15-play drive that lasted just over nine minutes. It ended on a one-yard pass from Tyrod Taylor to backup tight end Nick O'Leary on the first play of the second quarter. Dan Carpenter then connected on a 24 yard field goal on the Bills next drive to pull the Bills back to within 14-10.
Late in the half, the Falcons were driving when NIckell Robey-Coleman hit Matt Ryan on a corner blitz, forcing a fumble. Defensive tackle Marcell Dareus picked up the ball and rumbled 61 yards for a score to put the Bills in front 17-14.
The Falcons dominated the opening half in possession and yardage (228-120), yet trailed.
The teams would exchange punts in the third quarter as neither offense could get untracked. Matt Ryan then made a huge mistake. On third and eight from the Bills 30, he threw an ill advised deep out that was picked off by Stephon Gilmore. He returned it 79 yards for a score to put the Bills up 24-14 with just eight second left in the third quarter.
That ten point lead lasted for eight seconds, as Tevin Coleman took the ensuing kickoff and returned it 94 yards straight up the middle to get the Falcons back into it on the final play of the third quarter.
Marquis Goodwin then answered that with a return of his own. This one an 89 yarder to the house on the first play of the fourth quarter to restore the Bills ten point lead. Following an Atlanta three and out, and a short punt from Matt Bosher, LeSean McCoy broke off a 50 yard run on Buffalo's next offensive play to put the Bills up by 17. The Bills scored three touchdowns in 2:02 to blow this one wide open.
McCoy would add a 46 yard run on the games final play to end the day with 127 yards, although 96 of those yards came on just two plays. He ran it 21 times for 31 yards on the rest of his carries as the Falcons had him bottled up for most of the day.
Matt Ryan threw for 391 yards and Atlanta tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz had a day, catching 11 balls for 175 yards. Julio Jones caught four balls for 52 yards and a score. The Falcons piled up 413 yards against the top ranked defense in the NFL, but it wasn't enough to overcome the two deadly turnovers and the kick return score.
Sammy Watkins, the yardage leader in the NFL, was held to just four catches for 49 yards.
Buffalo (6-1) will next head to Cleveland (1-5) next Sunday before their bye. Atlanta (3-4) heads to Minnesota to take on the Vikings next Sunday.
