Thanks! I'd like for Rivers to stick around for two or three seasons; that way, his successor (who I plan to acquire through the draft) can study behind him for at least one year. Of course, that all depends on when he decides to retire. Ideally, Gordon develops into a balanced West Coast running back: an above-average, but maybe not great, rusher out of the backfield, and a formidable receiving threat on pass plays. I'd also like to develop him into a competent pass blocker. As for Bosa, he's a bit of an interesting case. In the past, my defensive linemen have been used mostly for freeing up space for linebackers. They've rarely posted impressive sack or TFL totals. However, that might change with a player of Bosa's caliber. I guess we'll have to see!

The Chargers picked up their first victory of the 2016 season in one of the more bizarre games in recent memory. San Diego beat the Colts by 2 points in a game that featured five total turnovers, a quarterback injury, and even a blocked punt returned for a touchdown.

Thanks to big plays, the Chargers offense put up their most consistent performance of the season. Scoring plays of 59 and 87 yards were complemented by a four yard touchdown run set up by a 73 yard pass from Philip Rivers to familiar target Antonio Gates.

Melvin Gordon turned in the best performance of his young career, gaining 130 yards on 15 carries. In addition to scoring on an 87 yard run in the third quarter, he had an 80 yard TD earlier in the game that was nullified due to an offensive penalty.

After lying dormant for most of the game, the Colts offense was sparked by, of all things, a back injury to Andrew Luck that sidelined him for the remainder of the game. The team rallied behind backup Scott Tolzien (13-19, 154 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT) to make the game close in the 4th quarter.

Though the unit gave up more points and yards than they would have liked to, especially in the second half, San Diego's defense forced turnovers in critical situations. Jahleel Addae and Brandon Flowers each picked off passes in the end zone and Manti Te'o forced a fumble on Indianapolis' final possession to put the game on ice.

Another piece of good news for the Charger defense: OLB Jeremiah Attaochu will make his season debut next week against the Saints after missing the first three games with a dislocated ankle.

Some career milestones from today's game at Lucas Oil Stadium:
  • RB Melvin Gordon: longest run of career (87 yards), and most yards in a game (130)
  • SS Jahleel Adae: first career interception

Re: Beginnings And Endings: A Madden NFL 17 Chargers Franchise

2017 NFL Draft News: Alabama's Allen Struggling Through Five Weeks

Initially one of next year's draft's top defensive line prospects, Alabama's Jonathan Allen has struggled mightily out of the gate, failing to register a sack in his team's first five games. In addition to not making much of an impact against the pass, he's failed to make plays against the run as well. In the words of ESPN's Todd McShay, he's been "handled by just about every OL he faces". Originally projected to be a mid first round pick, we'll see if Allen can recover and finish the season off strong or if his struggles, and his descent on draft boards, continue.

The Chargers fell to 1-3 on the season after another turnover and mistake riddled game, this time against the visiting New Orleans Saints.

Philip Rivers added two more interceptions to his season stat line, raising his 2016 total to an alarming 11 through four weeks. However, his 341 yards passing and two total touchdowns (one passing, one rushing) did help keep San Diego in the game.

For the second week in a row, rookie Drew Kaser had a punt blocked, and, for the second week in a row, the block resulted in a touchdown for the opposition. The coaching staff will evaluate the current punt coverage team and determine if adjustments need to be made.

The defense, however, performed very well in the loss. Facing one of the league's top offenses through three weeks, they held Drew Brees and the Saints to 220 yards of total offense and 13 points. Joey Bosa, San Diego's top pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, notched his first career sack.
