Like many "Thursday Night Football" games, this one between the Chargers and Broncos was a low-scoring affair, with its fair share of turnovers and sloppy play. After Broncos starting QB Paxton Lynch was injured on the game's third play from scrimmage, backup Mark Sanchez assumed control of Denver's offense. He did a very good job of managing the game, completing nearly 75% of his passes and throwing for 200 yards and a touchdown.

Denver was hardly dominant offensively, however. The Charger defense held the Broncos to 15 points on 276 yards of total offense and forced two turnovers.

Making his first Charger start, Zach Mettenberger's performance was a far cry from his 3 TD outing in Oakland the previous Sunday. He completed less than half of his pass attempts, threw two interceptions and fumbled twice (one lost). If not for his 71 yard touchdown pass to Keenan Allen, his stat line for the night would have looked even worse.

Starting their final possession with just under a minute left on the clock, San Diego had the chance to score the game-winning touchdown. They fought their way to the Bronco 15, but were unable to punch it in. The loss drops San Diego to 2-4 on the season.

River Hogs' Helmets and Uniforms Unveiled

A week after announcing the River Hogs as their relocation name, the San Diego Chargers unveiled their helmet and uniform designs for the move north to Oregon. When the River Hogs take the field in Portland next season, they will don blue jerseys with grey pants at home. On the road, they will wear white jerseys with blue pants. Both their home and away uniforms will feature silver helmets, striped patterns on the sleeves, and prominent Nike "flywire" designs on the collars.

2017 NFL Draft News: Clemson's Jay Guillermo Climbing Draft Boards

Originally projected to be a 7th round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Clemson C Jay Guillermo has impressed scouts all season and is reaping the main benefit of his outstanding performance: a higher draft stock. He's now projected to be a day two pick, but some scouts think that continued strong performances could propel him closer and closer to day one.

The Chargers, doomed in large part by a scoreless first half, dropped their fifth game of the 2016 season in Atlanta's Georgia Dome.

Atlanta was able to build a 13-0 halftime lead on Matt Ryan's accuracy, Devonta Freeman's legs, and San Diego's overall offensive ineptitude. The Chargers were ultimately able to prevent the shutout, but the game was all but out of reach (26-0 in favor of Atlanta) mid-way through the third quarter.

Making his second start in place of the injured Philip Rivers, Zach Mettenberger once again completed roughly half of his passes (52% Comp.). He also turned the ball over three times, twice via interception and once via fumble. Also losing a fumble was Melvin Gordon, his first of the season.

San Diego's final four points of the afternoon came via a bizarre late fourth quarter sequence that included two safeties in a span of just over two minutes, and, after the second one, a botched free kick on the part of the Chargers that gave Atlanta possession and the chance to drain the remaining seconds of the game clock.

The Chargers knew that the team would have its struggles this season, but going into week eight, any sort of post-season play is already seeming less and less plausible.
