The Cleveland Browns beat the Miami Dolphins in the final seconds to earn their first week-one victory since 2004.

The Browns first game in the Nathan Clayton era went remarkably well. Brandon Weeden and Trent Richardson led the team to a season-opening victory. Richardson carried the offense all game long, rushing for 167 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries. Weeden started slowly with a rough first half. He missed his wide receivers several times; two of those inaccurate passes were intercepted. Weeden showed a lot of improvement in the second half. Weeden found Josh Gordon for a 36-yard touchdown for his first passing touchdown of the 2013 season. Weeden’s touchdown extended the lead to ten early in the third quarter.

The Browns defense had a great start to the game, holding the Dolphins to seven points in the first three quarters. The Browns defense did best against the run, only allowing 78 rushing yards. They didn’t do much worse against the pass, allowing 204 passing yards. Both Ahtyba Rubin and Paul Kruger had a sack which helped the Dolphins move backward. But the NFL isn’t a game of three quarters, it is a game of four. The Browns defense blew the lead in the fourth quarter. They allowed a Mike Wallace touchdown with seven minutes left in the game and a Dan Carpenter field goal with two minutes left in the game. The Browns defense played well but not well enough.

With two minutes left in the game, it was up for the offense to take the game back. Both Weeden and Richardson helped the team drive down the field when it was most important. With seconds left, Billy Cundiff was set up for his first game-winning field goal as a Cleveland Brown. The 25-yard field goal was good and the Browns won their first game in the Nathan Clayton era.

Even with 17 unanswered points and a fourth quarter lead, the Cleveland Browns couldn't beat the Baltimore Ravens. The final was 34-24.

The Browns fought hard to stay in the game, overcoming a 17 point deficit, as well as stopping the red-hot Ray Rice. The fight was not good enough, as late in the fourth quarter, Joe Flacco and Ray Rice were unstoppable. The game was out of reach after Ray Rice's incredible touchdown run.

The Browns offense struggled throughout most of the game. Brandon Weeden's performance was terrible. Completing only 37% of his passes with a touchdown and 2 interceptions. Trent Richardson had another great game with 113 yards on only 12 carries giving him 9.4 yards per attempt. He also got into the end zone twice. With Weeden's struggles, the receiving core didn't have a great day. Jordan Cameron led the team in receiving yards with 40 yards on 2 catches. Davone Bess had the only receiving touchdown when he caught a 4-yard pass in the flat.

The defense struggled early and late in the game. Ray Rice was unstoppable most of the game rushing for 182 yards. Joe Flacco didn't get many opportunities; when he did he was unstoppable completing almost 80% of his passes. In a very important late game situation he found Jacoby Jones for a touchdown. The Browns had another defensive collapse in the fourth quarter; the offense didn't respond this time.

The injury bug hit the Browns hard. They lost MLB D'Qwell Jackson, OLB Paul Kruger, and WR Travis Benjamin to long term injuries. The length of the injuries will come Monday.
