Illinois entered the Sugar Bowl to go toe to toe with the behemoth that was Texas. A team that had been there before. A team with the Heisman winner and stars all over the field. Could the young and talented Illini knock them off? Well they came out strong, scoring first and jumping to a quick lead. The teams would go back and forth after that but Illini would score before half, and despite missing the extra point, take a 23-14 lead into half. Could Illinois sustain it? The short answer, no. As per usual, the Illini would falter in the late 3rd and 4th giving up 22 unanswered points to finish the game. The Illini still had one more chance on a 4th and 1 and Crouch would overthrow a wide open Carmoni Green that was about 4 yards in front of him. So after all the comebacks and all the late game heroics, they would fall short in this one. The Texas offense was too much and the Illini offense had no ice in their veins. The season ends on a demoralizing loss. With a host of people leaving, but some key parts staying the Illini look to bounce back next season.

Re: Hail to the Chief | Illinois Fighting Illini Dynasty (NCAA 14)

Cuts:
HB Dre Brown: Probably the most surprising cut that will ever happen in this series. He was an 87 overall but with a logjam at running back. The former starter split carries with Corbin early in the season before fumbling at the 1 yard line in a game early in the season that had him benched for the rest of the year. Hes most notable for his very athletic run in the the first season.
QB/HB Cam Thomas: The dual threat QB who could've possibly been third string this year had they not found another recruit in Brendan Petty had some time playing running back last year as well. With a new offensive coordinator with a higher focus on passing and a logjam at running back there was just no room for him.
