PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Ravens Avoid Tie With 15 Ticks To Spare

After Cincinnati’s Randy Bullock hit a 42 yard field goal as regulation expired, the Bengals and the Baltimore Ravens needed another 14:45 to decide their opening day tilt. Joe Flacco’s 48 yard strike to Breshad Perriman prevented the game from becoming the first tie of the 2017 NFL season.

Boswell's Boomer Spares Steelers From OT vs. Browns

With the Pittsburgh Steelers unexpectedly struggling in their opener against the Cleveland Browns, Chris Boswell booted a 50 yard field goal with 32 seconds left to lift the Steelers to a 19-16 victory. Rookies James Conner and David Njoku scored the game’s only touchdowns.

Cushing Draws 10 Game Suspension

Texans ILB Brian Cushing has been issued a 10 game suspension for violating the league’s ban on performance enhancing drugs. Cushing received a 4 game suspension for the same offense in 2010. He has said that he will not appeal the suspension, which will cost him $4 million in salary, so as not the drag things out with appellate proceedings. 2011 will remain the only season in which Cushing has appeared in all 16 games for the Texans. Former Texans and Ravens fullback posted a Tweet (later deleted) that Cushing “always juiced”.

Game Notes
The godlings from Nash Vegas are brimmin' with confidence after their mild upset of the marauders in silver and black, while the spotted cats' home opener presents them with the opportunity to be 2-0, both overall and in the AFC South. But J-Town hasn't been 2-0 since 2006 and with Fournette a question mark and Bortles apt to go color blind and start throwin' to anybody on the field at any time, don't expect that trend to change. Leonard's Loser: Jacksonville.

I'll be following! Love the team choice, I feel like Jacksonville could be a contender in the NFL in the near future if they just improve in a few areas on e team. Maybe you could turn them into super bowl contenders, good luck!

Fournette Busts Out, Jags Prevail In Donnybrook

Rookie running back Leonard Fournette may still be looking for his first NFL touchdown, but he is no longer seeking the first 100 yard game of his career. The fourth overall pick of the 2017 NFL draft dispelled any concerns over lingering foot trouble by rushing for 117 yards on 21 carries. With Fournette’s running keeping the Tennessee Titans’ defense honest, Blake Bortles riddled Tennessee’s suspect secondary for 388 yards and 4 touchdowns, guiding the Jacksonville Jaguars to a wild 41-36 victory and a 2-0 record, with both wins coming against AFC South opponents. The Jags started out fast but then froze out through the middle quarters before exploding for 21 fourth quarter points. A 17-7 second quarter lead was blown when with 5 seconds remaining in the first half head coach Doug Marrone called for a fake punt, thinking the play would consume those last few ticks. The decision backfired when up back Tommy Bohanon threw too soon, firing incomplete and leaving 2 seconds on the clock. The half then ended with Ryan Succop tying the score at 20 with a 38 yard kick. A quiet third quarter saw the Titans take a 23-20 lead into the final frame, where all hell broke loose as the teams combined for 34 points down the stretch. Telvin Smith’s second pick of the season could have sealed the game for Jacksonville, but the Jags could not move the sticks and Jason Myers missed badly on a 56 yard field goal attempt. With a pass interference call against A.J. Bouye giving them a first and goal, the Titans made it 41-36 with Phillip Supernaw’s second touchdown in as many catches. After a flag against each team, Tennessee’s two point try and ensuing onside kickoff attempt both failed.

It was two seasons ago in 2015 when the Jags last won back-to-back games, and they are 2-0 for the first time since 2006. But they will be facing the effects of a long trip as they travel to London to play the the Baltimore Ravens, who are also 2-0 following a 20-10 win over the Browns.

Thanks for checking in. IRL the Jags have a winning record since Doug Marrone coached the last two games, and Bortles has only been picked in one of the 5 games under him. With Fournette balancing the offense, all Bortles has to do is keep the turnover down, and if the D plays like it did vs. Houston and Baltimore more often than like it did vs. Tennessee, they could well win the South. Hopefully art will imitate life in that respect.
