Goodell: NFL will hold Emergency Draft to Help Complete Steelers Roster

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced that in response to the voiding of all Pittsburgh Steelers player contracts, the NFL will hold an emergency supplemental draft whereby the Steelers will select unprotected players from each of the other 31 NFL squads.

"There will be a number of stipulations that will be well laid out shortly, but we have come to an agreement with the representatives from the remaining 31 NFL teams. In short, each of the other 31 teams is allowed to protect an undisclosed number of players under contract, and any player with over 10 years of NFL experience. There will be some limitations on how many players per any specific position can be protected, and Pittsburgh will not be allowed to select more than three players from any one team. The Steelers will also be expected to absorb the current salary of each of these players while still remaining under the existing salary cap.

The expectation by many is that Pittsburgh will be hard pressed to put together a competent team in such a short period of time, especially since the expectation is that the number of protected players for each team could be close 50 or more. Other NFL owners were quick to jump on the opportunity to punish the Steelers for their lack of oversight of contract management. "Pittsburgh should leave this draft happy they have enough guys to even suit up," one owner stated under anonimity. "We are helping them out by giving them our scraps so that they can at least field a team this year."

Big Ben fielding offers from Texans, Browns, Among Others

One of the biggest names now on the free agent market, QB Ben Roethlisberger is rumored to be on the move to possibly Houston or Cleveland. Roethlisberger flirted with retirement earlier this off-season before the nullifying of his contract, but feels he still has the skills to keep going. "These last few weeks have been a whirlwind for all of us, but I just want a chance to compete for another Super Bowl ring," Roethlisberger stated.

Le'Veon Bell to visit Ravens, Lions, Packers

Don't look now Steelers fans, but could Le'Veon Bell become a part of the dreaded Ravens' team. Bell visited with Baltimore yesterday, and hopes to quickly make a decision on his newest team in the upcoming seasons. After having several contract issues with Pittsburgh in the past, it may be a bit of revenge for Bell to line up for one of Pittsburgh's biggest rivals.

Steelers' Emergency Selections Due to League By Midnight Tonight

The weeks of secrecy surrounding the process by which the Pittsburgh Steelers will obtain their newest players will end shortly. Despite little public knowledge over exactly who is protected by each of the other 31 NFL teams, within the next 24 hours, some clarity will begin to emerge. No longer will Pittsburgh's official roster only have a handful of players.

What we do know is this: Pittsburgh can take a maximum of three players from any of the existing 31 NFL teams. There is a complicated system to determine exactly how many players can be protected from each team - some of the rules involving a maximum number of players per position, and others contigent upon each player's tenure in the NFL and their respective contract lengths.

Pittsburgh adds Three Quarterbacks to compete with Rookie Dobbs

Pittsburgh has announced the selection of the following three quarterbacks: Cardale Jones, Mark Sanchez, and Josh Johnson

If the quality of the quarterbacks is any indication, the Steelers are in for a tough time. Apparently, the remaining NFL owners felt no sympathy for Pittsburgh, and voted to be able to protect an extremely high number of players. Pittsburgh will most likely have journeyman Sanchez as their day one starter, or throw an inexperienced player like Dobbs or Jones out to the wolves.

Pittsburgh Running Backs an Untested Bunch

Pittsburgh's latest tweet declared the replacements for Le'Veon Bell, and to say it was a downgrade may be the understatement of the year. Pittsburgh's new backfield will include Storm Johnson, Corey Grant, Keith Marshall, and Chris Carson. Former Cowboy fullback Rod Smith was also chosen.

Throw in rookie James Conner, and Pittsburgh has a backfield full of youngsters who have yet to prove anything on an NFL field. These six backs have combined for a grand total of 257 rushing yards over their careers, or about two weeks' worth of Le'Veon Bell's normal production.
