Jets Lose Tough Game in Season Opener

-Buffalo, NY- The New York Jets lost their opening game of the season 38-27 to Buffalo. The Jets held a 13-10 lead at the half and at one point in the third quarter had a 27-10 lead, only to give up 28 unanswered points in the second half. A blocked punt shifted the momentum and put the Bills inside the Jets’ 10-yard line late in the third quarter.

Josh McCown was sacked 5 times in the loss and only completed 14-31 passes. His receiving corps did not help his cause, dropping 2 passes on critical third down situations late in the game.

“We played strong for 3 quarters but in the NFL, you have to play tough for all 4 quarters. Our team fell flat in the fourth and we couldn’t get anything started,” Coach Donaldson commented at his post-game press conference.

One thing is certain, the Jets need to control the ball better and chew the clock late in games if they want to hold on to leads.

Next week, the Jets head to Oakland to face a tough Raiders team.

Looking forward to seeing how you progress with the Jets. There are a few dynasties with the Jets now, so I'm curious as to how you'll handle the QB situation moving forward... if McCown will be your guy this year and draft a QB next year, or if you'll put the faith in Hack or Petty.

Turnovers Plague Jets

-Oakland, CA- Josh McCown threw 7 interceptions in a 54-17 blowout loss to the Oakland Raiders. The Jets offensive line also allowed 4 sacks, which did not help the cause. McCown was under pressure all game long from the Oakland defensive front. The Jets receivers did not help either, dropping 6 passes.

At his post-game press conference, coach Donaldson stated, “If you can’t protect the ball, you can’t win. It’s that simple. We need to control the ball better and minimize turnovers.”

The Jets defense could not stop the Raiders offense, who had a short field to work with most of the game.

Next week, the Jets have their home opener against the Miami Dolphins (0-2), and look to rebound from an 0-2 start themselves.

I played Hackenberg and Petty each 6 quarters in the preseason and Josh McCown 4 quarters. For now, McCown is the starter and was going to be all through preseason. Though if he continues to struggle (see game 2), I may mix it up come week 7 or 8.

Between Hackenberg and Petty, Petty was the better of the 2 during the preseason, hence he earned the back up role. Hackenberg was too inaccurate and couldn't move the offense. Petty didn't play great either, but he did play better.

If come week 7 or 8 and McCown is still struggling, I may give Petty a more thorough look and chance to play. There are a couple solid 1st round quarterbacks in the upcoming draft class that will warrant a closer look. I will be doing my first quarter season update after game 4 and go into my scouting plans for the year.
