Week 11: Vs Broncos

Coming off their Bye week Portland has quite a large lead in the division; however, the toughest part of their schedule has yet to come, with games against Denver, the Chiefs, the Raiders, the Falcons and hard division road games staring them in the schedule we will see if the Snowhawks can hold on to that division lead.

The Broncos come in with the #1 Ranked defense, a solid run game, and an amazing passing offense that has been one of the most efficient in the NFL, this arguably will be the toughest home game for the Snowhawks. Luckily they are coming off their bye for this Thursday Night PrimeTime game

Portland loses at home off their bye week. While they did face a very tough Broncos team they were coming off a short week and this is a win in the NFL you really want to have. The defense played solid, but again let a few big plays destroy them. Then on offense, the turnovers ultimately are what cost Portland this game.

S1 Week 12: @ Raiders

After the tough loss to Denver, Portland must go on the road to Oakland and face another strong defense in the Raiders. M.Lynch has a great year so far and D.Carr has been getting the job done. This will be a great test for this young Snowhawks team.

Again, the big play and turnovers killed Portland. The game started off great with two long drives; however, one ended in an FG and another a turnover on downs. Then the spiral began, letting a kick returned for a TD, then fumbling the next offensive play for a TD. On top of that 10+ Miss, tackles lead to a huge day and multiple long runs from Lynch. Monroe after starting out so hot retracted back to the Monroe we've seen of late with just too many interceptions.

Finally, the skid stops. Portland dominated Cin from the start with a great air attack coupled with some key defensive touchdowns led to an easy 41-20 victory. It seems WR A.Spears is separating himself from the young core as a clear number one threat. While D.Johnson Jr has been making a case for more playing time over the rookie Hopkins. While Monroe continues to struggle he looked a lot more comfortable today with both INTs being deflections and not really his fault.

The defense continues to pile on the turnovers and sacks.

S1 Week 14: @Ravens

Portland is coming off a huge win vs the Bengals. Now they head into a very important game vs the Baltimore Ravens. The reason being if they were to win this game, Portland would be in complete control of their own destiny when it comes to the AFC North title. No matter what happens vs Falcons/Chiefs if Portland can win vs Baltimore and beat the Steelers they will clinch the division. A lot of pressure rides on the shoulders of this young squad lets see if they can deliver.

Snowhwaks come out of Baltimore with a win. M.Monroe carried his team to the victory with by far his best performance so far in his young career. A.Spears also came alive for a third straight game solidifying himself as the obvious number one for M.Monroe. This rookie combination looks deadly and will only get better over the years. F.Hopkins has been having trouble in the run game and our Oline, in general, has not been able to create the holes needed for either back.

While Baltimore played very well, and most of all backup B.Osweiler really putting together a great performance our defense did what it needed to do. It finally put a stop to the 100YD rusher streak, while keeping up good pressure and forcing two turnovers.

What a game for Portland! Going up against arguably the best team in the league, on the road and putting in the performance they did. Not sure if it had to do with the snowy conditions but Kansas City's defense simply could not stop Portland's offense. Again A.Spears goes off and he is starting to become the offensive weapon Portland hoped for when they drafted him.

On the defensive side of things, Portland sold out to stop K.Hunt and it worked giving up LESS than a yard per carrying, while A.Smith did torch the D a couple times they stuck to their plan and came out with a victory!

Portland was not able to come through at home. The defense put up one of their best performances of the year, but the offense simply was not able to get it done. The running game went nowhere for most of the game and with Njoku out with cramps after one reception it was up to Monroe for most of this game without his favorite target. While he did find A.Spears 7 times for his 6th hundred yard game in 7 games, it was simply not enough. A dropped pass late by Coleman could have put Portland in the 5, instead, it was a turnover on downs.

It all comes down to this, due to the tiebreaks of common opponents between the Steelers and Snowhawks, if Portland loses and Pittsburgh wins the Snowhawks are out. It's as simple as that, however; a win gives them the AFC North division championship.

This explosive Falcons team will be no pushover, they themselves are fighting for the NFC South championship and need a win to tie the Buccs for that very spot.

Portland was not able to come through. The Falcons proved just too much to handle for this young Snowhawks side. Again the running game struggled to get going, and Monroe simply was not able to do enough to put Portland in a chance of winning. The defense also simply could not handle the big plays of the Falcons.

Meanwhile, the Steelers beat the Saints 35-28 and took home the AFC North division title. Portland for the first time the entire year is not in first place, but it is the most important time of the year to have this happe.
